First minor defoliation - removed some overlapping leaves allowing lowers direct access to light. Also first feed this week - not that she's showing any signs of deficiency, but nonetheless.
Feeding seems to have worked well! Activated 'Bloom' switch on light, now operating at full power (277w). Awoke to some fresh "scent" in the house, filter attached, and more defol to remove overlapping leaves.
Started week 6 with major stretch, 2" the first night bringing her up to about 12" tall. Very thirsty, very happy too though. We can safely call this preflowering, and up to about 16" by the end of the week
Accidentally snapped / cracked 4th branch at 1st node - isn't all the way thru so may be OK - taped & staked for support. Stretch done now she's about 18" tall. Fed CALMAG only early in the week as she was starting to see some leaf rust & purple stems.
Another week goes by, and another piece of old equipment dies... Time for a new PH pen, picked up the BlueLabs pen, a bit expensive but pays to have proper PH - dUh! Buds are stacking, seem a little loose but time will tell. Instead of turning off the light, some pics are in B&W for the next while. Leaf burn/rust/spots still appearing & progressing, might be a PH issue (still not sure what to run at for this ROOTFARM media, probably soil #'s at 6.5). Watering at 6.2, runoff about 6.8 - likely time for a flush too!
Medium PH/runoff is down around 5.4 - THIS IS WAAAAY TO LOW though...
Attempting to fix runaway this week. Flushed 27L distilled through at 7.0PH on Monday until runoff came up to 6.2, continue new feeds at 6.5 to bring up and maintain @6.5. Should have mentioned earlier, she reeeeeeeks of lemon zest and roses... best scent ever
Week 6 of flower - Whole house stinks! This 4" fan/filter sucks (or rather doesn't)... holy moly.. Still seeing crusties/brown spots advancing up the buds - it displaces the trichomes so not sure if this is affecting potency. Feeding only overdrive and micro now.
Cruising this week with Overdrive - I doubt there's any hope for fixing the brown spots issues - its's ugly but no clue what it is as there could be a few causes. Trichs are still not clouding over yet
Calling this the last week of feeding. Upped the Overdrive to 2ml/L, will start flush sometime next week if all holds out - being my first ever auto I'm not sure if I'm sticking to a calendar/timeframe or watching the plant, probably a bit of both. :)
Plain water from the end of last week into early this week let's use up what's left in the medium and tighten up. After this, it's 48h dark, trim, annnnnnd chop!
One-Hit-Wonder Critical Purple. I have one only one word to describe this strain: "HEAVY". Definitely be bedtime buds - it knocks me out Every. Single. Time. It starts with a wave of calm and moderate body buzz; so you sit down. Then your eyes start to get heavy, and....then... you're...asleep. If you manage to fight yourself awake for the duration, you're in slow motion with basic functions being a pretty good challenge. If you manage it as a daily driver, prepare to be heavily dopey/stoned with lots of 'next day stupids'.
But this isn't a strain review it's a growing review, so onward...
After many years growing bonsai photos then of not growing at all, this was my first forray into autos. CP Appeared to be a pretty simple strain to grow, and would fit my medication needs for pain killing and sleep aid. As recommended, I didn't want to stress/stunt the plant and also wanted to see what these autoflowers (and this strain) would do with minimal training. Turns out, quite a lot! Although the plant probably could have used more food all around (will try 1/2 strength GMB+ 3/4 Calmag), and a bit more training to widen/flatten the canopy, Critical Purple has the potential to have MUCH tighter nugs. I ended up keeping the trimming pretty loose, it's SO sticky - coated with trichs and DRIPPING with resin. After cure smell is "1997 Nestea Iced Tea Crystals" - sounds odd but you know what I'm talking about, and it's fantastic (and accurate).
I've read a few other journals here & there for CP, and it appears this blotching/rust/spotting is a thing - nobody has figured out what it is or what's causing it.
Trimmed wet mostly on-plant then chopped and hung. As a re-entry into growing after a long hiatus, this strain is an easy one for those with lots of patience. I've got 4 seeds left and will be runing it again, but 15+ weeks is a looooong time.
