I decided to do a run of veggies in my grow tent but also wanted at least one cannabis plant in the mix. For this run I chose to not only take a break from autos but, since the stakes weren't high, I thought I'd roll the dice and pop one of the Cali Connection beans I purchased before reading the scores of horror stories online about unstable genetics producing intersex plants. I really love Sour Diesel cultivars and spent a decent amount on the beans so I figured it would be the perfect choice as sort of a side project while I run some tomatoes and other veggies. All that said, I'm just going to have fun with this one. She will be an all organic run using BioBizz nutrients and FF Ocean Forest. I also plan on mainlining her to eight colas before flipping her. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can finish the run without any dreaded nanners this strain seems so keen on throwing. Not much to report this week as things are just getting going but thanks for reading and following along. Do me a favor and click "Like" if, indeed, you like what you see here. Cheers! 🌱

Week two was pretty uneventful. I did something stupid and greatly slowed the growth of the seedling; so basically no progress occurred this week. Thankfully she's a photo so it's not as big a deal as it would have been had I been running auto genetics. No nutrients for this lady yet as she's too young. Just the FFOF mix and cotyledons for now. Better progress this week as she recovered from my mistake that stunted her. Not much to report. Still watering with plain tap water as often as the solo cup dries out. Thanks for following along! Do me a favor and click "Like" if, indeed, you like what you see here. Cheers! 🌱

Growth is back on track this week. Still hitting her with plain water as the FFOF seems to still be doing the trick. Will transition her to final 5 gal pot next week. Thanks for following along! Do me a favor and click "Like" if, indeed, you like what you see here. Cheers! 🌱

Growth continues to be on track. She is a nice shade of deep green but is starting to show some variegation with lighter yellow bits. It looks to be genetic so far. Doesn't really surprise me given what I've read about some of Cali Connection's gear. Started hitting her with a light regimen of BioBizz products and I do mean very light. All good so far. Growth continues to be on track. Topped her and tied back some of the longer growth shoots to level the canopy out. She took both like a champ, bouncing back within 24 hours. Variegation beginning to be more pronounced along with a twisting of some the tips of the leaves. Keepipng an eye on that for now. Thanks for following along! Growth continues to be on track. The tomatoes are starting to cramp things a little for both cannabis plants; with warmer weather I'll be moving those out of my main tent to the outdoors to live in the sunshine. This should allow for more light penetration and an overall better environment for both cannabis plants that will remain. Thanks for following along! Aside from the variegation that is becoming quite pronounced everything seems to be going well. The Seedsman White Widow next to her is not expressing any unusual symptoms of any kind so I am inclined to think the problem is genetic. Growth seems about on pace with the WW and she continues to respond well to LST and HST techniques so I'm not worried, yet... Thanks for following along! So far, this week is going well. I preformed some additional HST (supercropping) to Sour D but got carried away on one stem and nearly snapped it off. Only a small portion of tissue remained holding it together so i splinted with some washi tape and a toothpick; the affected growth shoot is still alive and healthy 24 hours later so I'm hoping that means I was able to save. We'll see as the week progresses. More to come later this week. Thanks for following along! Do me a favor and click "Like" if, indeed, you like what you see here. Cheers! 🌱

Everything is proceeding well. She is really a grower and is intent on getting a good flowering stretch in before she stacks on the buds. She is a bit older than the White Widow she shares the tent with but is not as far along with bud production. She persisted in her desire to gain height even with intense HST. Some growth shoots had to be supercropped twice and she still shot them up! It's wild. She's not much of a drinker and still shows a bit of a distaste for intense light but otherwise i cant complain. Started adding Canna Boost with every watering this week. Thanks for following along! Do me a favor and click "Like" if, indeed, you like what you see here. Cheers! 🌱

She is really starting to look good this week. I think she has finally stopped stretching and while she got a bit more space between nodes than I would have cared for she is definitely starting to fill out and I expected as much from a sativa dominant. All in all I'm happy with her thus far. Thanks for following along! Do me a favor and click "Like" if, indeed, you like what you see here. Cheers! 🌱

I have to say, week 14 is when this cultivar really started to impress me. I admit that I was very nervous about running CaliConnection gear as I have read many horror stories about intersex plants and all the negativity definitely had me constantly looking at this girl with skepticism. To the point where I found myself tempering my expectations about what she was going to deliver. As the Seedsman White Widow next to her fattened up I became more and more convinced this Sour D pheno was going to be a disappointment all around. That said, this week she really started to show me what she had to offer and put my negativity in its place. Despite a lanky stretch she is starting to fill out the spaces between nodes into some really impressive colas. The scent and trich production are still a little lackluster but I'm hoping that ramps up over the next few weeks. She's pretty much coasting on her own now with little interference from me. She's stopped stretching so no need for me to crop her anymore. This week I did do some light defoliation to open up spaces for light to reach lower parts of the plant. Other than that, she gets water about every third day. I thoroughly soak to runoff with plain water and then push the plain out with a gallon of BioBizz solution until runoff starts to show brown from the nutes and recharge. This has worked really well for me this run. I find myself taking more and more pictures of her as she starts to fatten up her inflorescence. Maybe this will be the shining star of this run after all! Can't wait to see what she does next. 😀 Thanks for following along! Do me a favor and click "Like" if, indeed, you like what you see here. It was a great week for this Sour D pheno. She is really starting to fatten up now and is noticeably different after every dark period in terms of the size of her flowers. She is getting tricky to move to the shower where I normally water so she will likely not move again until she is cut. This makes the watering process more tedious but it is a necessary evil to avoid any unwanted mishaps this late in the game. I already caused her to lean a bit from swaying back and forth carrying her across the room during the last fertigation. The buds still dont have a hugely pronounced smell (like I'd expect from Sour D) or much trichome coverage but I am reassured by the fact that she seems to be a late bloomer and is apparently just starting to take off in terms of flower production. I've only seen a scant number of orange pistils so I think she still has several weeks to go. If she starts to take on that characteristic gassy smell as puts on some frost so I can press her into decent rosin, I'll be more than happy with this run when it's all said and done. Week 16 went well with the plant adding quite a bit of bulk in the form of flowers. She looks to be fairly dense for a Sativa dom (I'm guessing the OG roots of the cross coming out) but oddly still has very little smell. I am not sure what to make of this. I've had to tie her up with supports at her base and along some of the taller branches with more weight to keep them from falling over or leaning against the tent wall. I've met with bud rot from that before and not looking to repeat that mistake. Other than the general lack of the classic gassy smell that I expected from Sour D, I am pretty happy with this lady still. I am even starting to see her putting on a nice fade (though it's tricky to see with the variegation) progressing from the lower limbs up. I suspect at least 3-4 weeks left to go with this one. Week 17 went well and this lady is nearing the end of her lifespan. This week saw impressive growth of her inflorescence and trich production. The smell is still not as strong as I would've expected given her heritage (the White Widow next to her has more of that classic gassy smell) but she does have what I'd classify as a "normal" cannabis odor that smells pleasant enough. If anything she has demonstrated consistently that she is a late bloomer and takes her time, so perhaps the next few weeks will see that classic Sour D smell become more pronounced. I also worry a bit about Canna Boost affecting smell and taste as it seems every cultivar I use it on seems to take on the same overall background aroma. I'd be interested to see if others have noticed this. She is on auto-pilot now, for the most part. I've ordered a better USB pocket scope to inspect her trichs as the loupe and cellphone camera really weren't doing me any good. It should be here today and I'll have a better idea of how long she has left. For now, she is receiving plain pH'd water with a dose of Boost added every third day or so. I'll likely back of the Boost now that we are nearing the end. Mid-week I had to tie her up to avoid her, now heavy, limbs falling over against the walls of the tent. I wanted to correct this before it resulted in bud rot. Fortunately, I was able to rig something up that got her balanced quite nicely while still allowing plenty of light penetration to all of her budsites. Week 18 saw quite a bit of bulk added to her inflorescence and a majority shift of pistils from white to orange. Trichs still looking a little glassy on most buds so I think she still has a week or two left but she is definitely getting close. She's getting plain pHd water for the most part with a dose of Boost and Recharge once per week. I've had to tie her colas up in several directions as she has really started to tax her own branches with weight! A welcome dilemma for sure! Not much else to report. I'm doing my best to keep hands off of her at this point and let her finish her life up. I did accidentally nip a 1g bud earlier in the week and let dry for several days before throwing it in the vape. She was an absolute treat. Potent and gassy just like I was hoping when I sprouted her. Oh, that's the other development.. she is definitely presenting that diesel smell at this point!! I'm thrilled, to say the least. ⛽ Thanks for following along and please click "Like" below if you dig what I'm doing here. Cheers! 👊🌱☮️✌️

Week 19 ended up being her last. She ended up making it to the last day of week 19, day 133, when I finally gave her the chop. As you can see from the photos she had a beautiful bouquet of nugs to offer up as a swan song. The week progressed well enough with me keeping a watchful eye on trichs to gauge her harvest. Unfortunately on day 131 during her morning check I found a nanner due to, what I suspect, was an uncovered LED light on my dehumidifier (the light it throws when reservoir is full). A rookie mistake, I know, but I'm used to running autos and I simply forgot to cover it before adding it to the setup in late flower. I don't really blame the genetics because the same happened with the Seedsman White Widow running next to her. Either way, at that point I USB scoped her and was happy to find she was pretty much ready to come down anyway. I proceeded to strip her entirely of leaves, fully manicure her, and put her into 48 hours of darkness. Fortunately, I had not watered since very early in the week so she was not heavily hydrated when she got the chop. I'll go ahead and stop there and save the rest for the harvest update to follow shortly! Thanks for following along! Overall I was very happy with this run which happened to be the first run of pure photoperiods I have done since my state went legal. I enjoyed the lengthened cycle time, the ability to play around a bit more with techniques, and the potent end product. The plant had a 6 day dry time in a dark room at ~55% RH and 60-70F which was just enough time to let the last of the chlorophyll evaporate and take the last of the "green" hay smell with it. She has lovely visual appeal in the jar with the buds having a light green hue frosted with milky white trichs. Sour Diesel is one of my all time favorite cultivars and I am very much looking forward to the dabs this harvest will provide for the next few months! As always, thanks for following my work!
