The clones are a short Indica leaning phenotype that I got from a very reputable source.
They were a bit ragged and very hungry when I put them in the net pots last week, with roots just starting to pop from the cubes. I top fed a couple times a day for the first 3 days to get them fed, while the roots were about 1" above the solution below.
This is my first run in this new system, I'm following Cultured Solutions RDWC feeding schedule to get things started and dialed in.
Ph was super stable and temps stayed steady with the chiller not running at all until I turn down the temp for week 2.
Week 2 has had some explosive root growth! As soon as they got enough roots in the solution, you can tell from the color they are eating well and they are really starting to pick up some growth on top.
Trying to get the VPD dialed in during the day, with the dehumidifier running at night to keep the humidity in check with lights out. It seems to be successful so far.
Topped and installed the scrog net this week, they took a bit to recover from topping and also defoliated 48 hours after.
Changed out the nutrient solution and upped the nutes. I was hoping for more growth at this point but overall I think I'm only about a week behind. Being my first grow, I didnt know what to expect.
Week 3 development was steady but I would not call it explosive. The scrog net still has lots of holes to fill. They are drinking about 10 gallons last week And I saw a 20 ppm drop before the nutrient solution change out.
It was an interesting week...nice to have something to keep my mind occupied on these girls during this covid-19 epidemic.
2 days after water change last week, my roots started to turn brown and have appeared to stop growing, I first was concerned that it was root rot, but the plants didn't seem to be affected. So I added more UC ROOTS to the solution in hopes that it would help, I noticed white roots shooting out about 24 hours after. I think it may have been the increase in the coco cal that did the damage. They are filling the net nicely and I will be flipping them to flowering this week I think.
Switched the 600 watt MH bulbs out and put the 1000 watt HPS in and Flipped to flowering on Saturday night. The girls seem happy with the additional light and nutrients.
I waited till Tuesday night to do some defoliation. Still having issues with browning roots after completing water change.
Boom goes the stretch...the girls have just exploded! I wanted to see if Hortilux bulbs make that much of a difference over vivosun bulbs so I put one of each bulb in my reflectors and within the first two weeks the difference is astounding. The hortilux side is 15-20% bigger with much thicker stems.
Other than humidity being hard to control with my 45 pint a day dehumidifier in the tent, everything is going as well as I hoped.
The stretch continues...It appears buds are setting and forming up quite nicely. I couldn't take watching the side with the vivosun bulb keep lagging behind more and more from the hortilux side, so I switched the bulb out. And within 3 days the jump in plant size was huge.
The aroma is getting slightly stronger by the day.
This is the last week with the early bud booster in the system. I have been putting the next weeks nutrient solution in my top off tank to steer the nutrients. It seems to work great!
And the stretch rolls on...the end of week 3 of flower saw the girls go for another reach, making me have to zip tie my lights to the roof of the tent. I put the upper trellis in and pulled some out of the direct light. Temps hover right at 85 in the day at 55-60% humidity, and drops to 70-72 at night with right at 40% humidity.
The whole plants are getting super sticky to the touch. With a pungent lemon strawberry scent on your fingers. The room does not smell overly sweet with more of a earthy funk.
Frosty...the stretch came to a halt thankfully. I've got a few top buds that show some bleaching from being so close to my lights. The buds, fan leaves and sugar leaves are looking very frosty and feel super sticky. The humidity finally became uncontrollable with just the dehumidifier and I kicked on the 8,000btu air conditioner. I was going to start to bring the temps down anyway so timing was great as spring sets upon the midwest United States.
The buds are starting to get a little bit bigger all the time. But they really don't look like they are ready to ripen anytime soon. The smell is still really earthy almost swamp like when I open the tent. The smell of the resin that coats your fingers is strongly lemon strawberry with a fuel undertone. my temps are down a few degrees to under 79 degrees during the day and humidity is under control. I've raised up the C02 ppm to 1500 on the autopilot with a 100 ppm swing.
The sheer mass of plants is really pushing this setup to the max. I'm glad that I'm really fully controlling the environment. I was not anticipating this much height. I'm only going to lose a few buds to bleaching it looks like.
Well, I dont think these girls ever want to stop stretching. They stalled and then shot up again with my tallest tops at almost 50" (127 cm). The buds are all starting to swell and get some nice density from the bottom buds to the colas. The frost keeps piling up all over the buds and the smell has started to become more pronounced by the day, but still very earthy.
I bumped up the C02 to 1600ppm for the rest of the grow, with no C02 the last week. This is week 7 of 10 and I'm ready to see what the results will be.
Week 8 is plugging along with majority of buds continuing to swell and become firm to the touch. Some of the lower buds are showing some red hairs with clear to partly cloudy, no amber heads seen. Next week will be the last week of C02 and I will drop the reservoir temp to 66.
Week 9...coming down the home stretch. The buds keep adding more frost by the day.
My dehumidifier stopped working in the middle of the night yesterday, I didn't catch it until evening. I hope it didnt start mold growth. The tent was 80% humidity for about 8 hours!
The smell in the air is starting to become very dank like a very fruity diesel.
Week 10 of flowering! This last week has been one of the most challenging when it came to climate, After I stopped C02 the humidity levels just continued to climb and the AC and Dehumidifier could not keep up. I'm guessing this has to do with the sheer volume of the plants in the airspace, and without the additional C02 keeping the stomas partway closed. I've decided to just leave the tent open during the day and its sits right at 55% humidity.
Now on to the flush...
Week 11of flower...I got a new 70 pint dehumidifier and that fixed all my humidity issues instantly! I dont see any mold or mildew,
so I think I dodged a bullet. I let the girls stay in the dwindling nutrient solution for an extra two days, until Tuesday night. I swapped out with flawless finish and uc roots for the flush. They probably could have had another 5 days or so and got a few more amber heads. I'm Chopping Saturday morning. They smell amazing, a lemony strawberry diesel.
Lovely ladies and a beautiful set up. Everything all around is jus so well done. Fantastic work my friend. Keep it up and may the ganja garden gods bless you along the way with this grow and all future endeavors as well
