francisgerald Clones rooted two days ago, were transplanted today, so I’m considering this to be Day 1. Added some nutes and that’s it. The purpose of this diary is to test the yields in a very small pot (1 liter), under a not-too-powerful LED (135w), to save as much space, electricity, mix, water and nutes as possible. The keyword here is “Minimalism”.

francisgerald Ladies are doing great. Blue Oregons rooted first, so they’re much bigger than the others. I’ve topped them along with the Kush, because they were stretching a bit. The three of them have pre-flowers, so I hope the Big Bud catches up soon. Although the containers are small, they seem to be more overfed than hungry, I think, because leaves are dark green.

francisgerald Terrible week. I had topped the newer ones last week to keep them all short and use up the space wisely, and for many days the ladies were fine. Some days ago I added some Bio Bloom, for I heard it was a good idea just before turning to 12/12. However, disaster ensued, several Kush leaves burned, Big Bud has some black spots on some leaves. I’ve also noticed that the Kush has odd growth patterns, bizarre spiral leaves, and single and two-fingered leaves. I think the clone had been flowering (it was given to me) and hated revegging. The only good news is that the Blue Oregons are doing fine and the LST didn’t stress them too much. Let’s see what happens, but I think the Kush won’t make it.

francisgerald I’ve given away the Big Bud, in exchange for a new clone, and the Lemon Kush is now flowering outdoors. Let’s see what happens.

francisgerald Good stuff, but I expected a more indica effect. Perhaps I should’ve waited one more week or so. Nonetheless, the high is good, but I feel paranoid if I smoke too much. As for the small container experiment, I’m very happy. I used a very little amount of ferts, mix, space and light resources. My previous solo cup challenge yielded 4 grams, so it’s interesting to see the ratio (this one yielded 9 grams) with the twofold increase in container size. My conclusion is that a Basic 80 tent is optimal if used for several (up to six) small containers instead of a big 4 or 5-gallon smartpot (unless you have very potent lights). Let’s wait and see how the taste and aroma will develop, for I just baked a single joint for trying the harvest. It definitely needs curing, maybe one month or so. As for the strain, it proved to be tough even rootbound and with a certain degree of instability (my LED cooler stopped working for a week mid flowering, and I had to use 6500k fluorescent bulbs to keep them flowering). It lost most fan leaves in early flowering, but I think it had to do with the roots or something.

Mate the spiral one was sick (as in good) but I saw you gave her away....... spiral weed is the future! ...... ..perhaps :)

@francisgerald, I thought I had replied to this but I must have dreamt it. I thought I had asked if you knew why? Then I got intrigued and did some investigation and it seems to happen quite often with clones I'm sure you've come to the same conclusion yourself. take it easy
francisgerald
francisgerald commented6y ago
@Herbie, I think it has to do with changes in light spectrum or schedule, or perhaps with the fact that mother plant was pre-flowering when clones were cut. In that case revegetating them may cause these mutations.

Herbie commented6y ago
@francisgerald, thanks. I think I'll give cloning a go once I've established my techniques a bit more. Funny I know about cloning thanks to my grandad teaching me as a kid with geraniums some near 30 yrs ago. he knew one day that knowledge would come in useful one day. It makes me wonder if anyone successfully grafted plants? I guess she'd have to stay pre flower for the graft to take. anyway take it easy, I sorry waffle on sometomes

@ChefDan420, they are now two weeks away from harvest and overall I think it’s been a success, considering the tiny amount of light, space, soil and fertilizing resources. The Lemon Kush is flowering outdoor on a friend’s balcony, and it should be ready in three weeks! Can’t wait to weight them!

GenghiSkunk commentedweek 36y ago
Cooool! All they are very good-looking and the setup seems working well ;-) Which kind of soil are u using at this stage? Any hint about the Lemon Kush? Many thx. Cheers, M.

francisgerald commented6y ago
@GenghiSkunk, the clones rooted in coco cups, then were transplanted to standard soilless mix. So far I've only added some Biogrow/Alg-a-mic/FishMix ONCE, but they're all looking too dark green already, so I watered with plain water this week. The Kush seems to be the most sensitive to any instability and has shown inconsistent leaf patterns, pre-flowers and odd curling (not the claw type from overfeeding, more like spiral-shaped). I don't know what's causing it, though. It could be the LED panel being too close, or the transplant itself, or maybe a reaction to the Biobizz ferts. Besides, as the container is so small, this could be a sign of root problems too, I really don't know. I topped it last week so I'm waiting to see what's going to happen. I hope to be flowering soon, in ten days, I think.
the end.
