1. This is my last auto grow of the season. This girl should finish up around mid-June. I'll probably start back up in September.
2.. I'm growing an Orange Diesel strain from Wicked Pissah Seeds. I've already grown one of their strains, a Cherry Cookies, and it came out great! This was a freebie, so thanks to Wicked Pissah in advance.
3. I pre-soaked the soil with 1g of filtered water mixed with .5 teaspoons of Recharge. I like to use Recharge to get my root system off to the right start.
4. I soaked the seed in water almost 48hrs. I planted the seed directly into the soil. I used to put the seeds in a moist paper towel to let the tap roots develop, but I think this puts less stress on the sproutling. 3 days later she cracked the surface. The second set of pictures is the end of week 1.
5. So far I've been misting with plain water daily. I think I'll only use Recharge and Filtered Water throughout most of veg.
1. Don't be fooled by the rapid growth in 1 week. I'm a bit late in posting.
2. OG received her first feeding this week. She received 2l of Filtered Water and a 25% Strength solution of Sensei Grow A/B and Cal Mag Xtra. I'll follow that up with filtered water next time then Recharge after that. We will see how it goes after that.
1. I'm still having the same curling leaves issue. I've done all the test, made sure I'm watering correctly, and held off on the nutes. Even watering with Recharge hasn't really solved the problem. I have issues like this with some of my autos. They usually grow out of it during flowering, but this time it's really bad.
2. My remedy is to switch to an organic line of nutrients. I've used NFtG before. I like how healthy the plants grew. The aromas and flavors were also superb. However, my yields were rather low. There are also a lot of components to their feeding regimen. I thought AN would be better, but its seems that I'm missing some essential minerals/nutrients with my current feeding program. My hope is that an organic line will slowly create a healthier environment for this poor girl.
1. Nothing much has changed in the last week. OD is making the transition to flower and she has basically just shot up like a weed. Leaves are really slender and pointed. She has a very Sativa look.
2. I'm still dealing with the curling burned leaves issue. I did a slurry test today. My pH is a bit high at 7.4. The next time I water, I will check my pH prior to feeding the plant. I'll lower the pH to a more acceptable level. My PPM number is suspect. It came in at 166. If I remember correctly, my filtered tap water is 300 PPM. I'll check PPM again when I water/feed next time.
3. I've added a humidifier to the tent to increase the humidity. My humidity was in the teens and I think it was causing stress.
4. In all, I've noticed that this strain is very picky in its environment. I'll keep an eye on her and continue to make minor adjustments until she starts looking happier.
1. OD has gotten a little taller this last week. Early buds are forming. I still haven't solved whatever is going on with this plant.
2. I fed very little in veg. Feeding consisted of mostly Recharge, or feedings at 25% strength. I thought a less synthetic nutrient line might be better suited for this girl, so I switched to Oregon's Finest. I've never even had a whiff of problems using this line in the past. My only criticism has been the number of bottles needed, and lower yields when compared to Advanced Nutrients.
3. I put a humidifier in the tent to increase the humidity. It was in the teens, now its in the 30% range. I also turned down the lights slightly, hoping to reduce light stress.
4. I've done the testing. Slurry tests came out fine. I've tested my filtered water prior to adding nutrients and after adding nutrients. All are in within parameters.
5. I guess I could do a thorough flush, but that seems drastic. My thinking right now is to just let her finish out and call it a day.
1. OD is still chugging along.
2. Old growth shows a lot of curling and burning. I've trimmed most of it, but there continues to be curling and discoloration in the leaves. Although it has slowed down since flowering has begun, and new bud growth appears a lot healthier.
3. I'm not sure if the change in nutrients has had any effect on the girl, but she is hanging in there. I really don't know what else to do at this point. I'll just keep an eye on her, test her water and soil, and see what happens.
1. OD may not be loving life, but that hasn't stopped her from putting out buds.
2. New growth doesn't show nearly as much curling and burning. There is some discoloration, but since I can't determine the source of the problem, there isn't an awful lot I can do.
3. I heavily defoliated most of the damage fan leaves. I've also pruned a lot of the popcorn buds that won't amount to much. I'm not sure how this girl is going to turn out, so I'd like her to at least focus all of her attention on the primary bud locations. Therefore, you might see a bit more pruning in the future.
4. I think this organic nutrient line is giving OD more of what she needs. I think there might be other issues, but I can't really do anything about the lighting and I'm keeping the temperature and humidity and the most comfortable levels that I can.
1. OD is hanging in there. Buds are stacking in a nice-sativa like fashion. I have no idea how this grow is going to end.
2. I haven't noticed a lot of difference since switching nutrients. It's hard to say if it cleared up the problem. There isn't a lot of foliage growing at this point.
1. There has been little change this week. She is a bit scrawny, but there are plenty of viable bud sites.
2. I did another slurry test and the pH came out a bit high. I adjusted the pH to 2 gallons of filtered water down to 6.2 and gave her that. We shall see what happens.
3. I think I might have figured out what happened to this grow. I knew there was some deficiency and that was causing stress to the plant. I'm leaning towards the idea that the plant needed more Growth Nutrients during veg. The lights that I use are pretty intense and the plant responded by wanting to grow more quickly. Since it wasn't getting what it needed, it stressed out the plant. I just planted 2 new autos and 1 of them started exhibiting similar symptoms. I increased the Nitrogen component of my veg. nutes and it appears to have solved the problem. Too bad its too late for this girl.
1. OD is rapidly approaching 12 weeks. I've started to flush with pH water. I'm hoping the lower pH will stimulate some recovery.
2. Buds haven't done much. They are getting a bit frosty, but not really filling out.
3. Overall this grow has been a bit of a failure. I haven't been able to figure out why this plant never thrived. I've accounted for most of the variables, but without any real turn around. The best I can do is finish this out and learn from my mistakes.
This was a very difficult grow. I started having problems mid-way through the veg cycle. I was never able to pinpoint and correct whatever was affecting the plant. I did rigorous testing of the soil, water, nutrient rich water, and run off. I made sure, to the best of my ability, that I didn't over-water. Perhaps I might've under-watered even. I even turned down the light intensity, added a humidifier to the grow tent, and switched from a salt based nutrient line to a more organic line. Nothing worked I don't think I'll be growing this strain again. At this point, I don't have the experience to diagnose the needs of this particular strain.
