I fear I see some nutrient burn so I decided to add just one gallon of pH 6.5 water. I will return to the mid-flower nutrients on the next watering or two. Sugar leafs are looking great.

Grow Questions

Am I correct that the brown tips are nutrient burn? Should I alternate giving nutrients and water? Say, nutrients on day 1, then water 4 days later, then nutrients 4 days after that, then water, etc.?

Leaves. Tips - Burnt

You are correct in your assumptions. You have nutrient burn, you can tell not only by the burnt tips, but by the really dark foliage, which indicates Nitrogen toxicity. You should feed once every 7 to 10 days, why? because it takes that long to see the effects of a feeding on the plants. Also, only water once you see the soil has really dried up, don't stick to a set amount of days, it could take 4 days? sure, although it could take much longer. Also, although I'm not familiar with your nutrient line, it does seem like too much, I mean 29 tsp? I've never seen that much of anything been used. Now, you are already beginning the 7th week of flower, you are almost there, so don't give anymore nutrients, only pH'ed water and let the plan consume what's left on the soil and on it's leaves to power what's left of the flowering stage, hell you should do a flush to help along. I say this to almost every grower, but get an EC/PPM meter to check your feeding strength, for soil you should aim for a concentration of 0.7 to 1.4 EC depending on the phase, you would be amazed how toxic some of the schedules the nutrient companies recommend us to use.

As I approach my first harvest, I'm reading as much as I can, but what questions should I be asking that I do not know to ask?

Is the trichomes-ratio (amber/milky) OK ? What's the best day+hour to harvest ? Do I have all the tools (latex gloves+good scissors+jars) ? Is my drying space ready ? Can I recycle some leafs+stems ? What about the harvest wastes ? What's the best spot around to enjoy some of my 'Gold Leaf' and meditate ? :)

Flushed with 11 gallons of water last night. Probably should have done two more gallons but the pH is looking much better. I had to add soil because the flushing compacted the soil quite a bit. Each gallon had 2 tablespoons of Herculean Harvest and nothing else. Next step: Learn how to scrog.

Wow! The humidity jumped to 90%. I think it may have been from that pile of leafs I trimmed and left in the tent which are now removed from the tent because I did not forget @Jaindoh's warning. Or could it be that switching to a 12/12 light schedule changed the humidity that much? The only other wildcard is that I added that 6" fan which I would think would reduce humidity.

Jaindohcommented7 years ago
@burnerac, probably just atmospheric; i keep weather open in a pinned tab and a dehumidifier for in case. i dont think that many leaves would do it but best on the safe side?

Last night I trimmed off some more leaves that appeared damaged or weak. I hope I am doing this correctly. Excited at the number of bud sites (am I terming that correctly?) I am seeing. I feel like I should have more light in the tent but this is what I have to work with. The runoff is now pHing right at 6.

My humidity jumped up tot 57%. Then it occurred to me I haven't been checkinging my Eva-dry. If you haven't discovered Eva-dry, you need to check it out. Works 10 years. They make them for different cubic feet. Clearly indicates when it needs to be refreshed. You refresh it by plugging it into a wall outlet for 18 hours which dries the gel out and then you are good to hang it in your grow space and keep on going. https://amzn.to/2q2z5qk

On day 130, I added another gallon and a half of water with mid-flower nutrients.

Working on a flush now. I'm definitely burning this one up. New pictures coming shortly. I think I was reading my pH wrong. My runoff is pHing at 4.

Nice! One of the few active Nectar for the Gods growers! Your grow is looking nice. We NFTG growers need to stick together. Don't hesitate to ask if you have questions with the line of nutes! Continued best wishes on the grow!

@burnerac, I do, but carefully. It must be introduced slowly! If you check out my week 6 grows there is a feeding schedule that I have refined. Check it out!

@Zannabis7, Thanks! Glad to find another NFTG grower. I have sooo much to learn. Do you use Bloom Chaos?
PigBearMan
PigBearMancommentedweek 117 years ago
Hey dude, 1) Yes. Just take care of your ph (6,5). 2) take a look at this...😉 http://loudclouds.co/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/marijuana-deficiency-chart-jorge-cervantes.jpg 3) Depents on how big you want your plant to be... Normally after the first five finger leafs. 4) ^ Don't take of too many leafs (Photosythesis and stuff like that...). https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HPzmRkRYH90/VJPUhte40XI/AAAAAAAAALI/IkUlVx_61sk/s1600/FIMMing_Vs_Topping_comparison.jpg 5) https://i.pinimg.com/736x/46/e3/6f/46e36fbd9a1d5682e44d0af511ef72dd--weed-shop-grow-room.jpg 6) Just use Zyme with your water. Zyme is not a nutrient but an additive. So no bad taste in your product (Canna says you should give it till your harvest). 7) Depends on strain. Keep in mind that they stretch. Normally about 30-50 cm. Hope it helps you. 😉

Hang in there - she'll recover. They are resilient plants. Back off on the nutrients and do a heavy distilled water flush.

@burnerac, yea youre supposed to keep a dropper of distilled water or the particular fluid and put a drop in the cap for all the type of pen i know of leaving the cap off has dried out and ruined two of my pens because i rushed into my next steps and forgot the pen -- because i was done mixing fert lol XD another pen calibrating it saved the pen once and then almost saved a second time but i couldnt get it to calibrate for the 9.0 right and it gave wrong readings i suggest calibrating yours and testing it against the solutions themselves. i dont put distilled water i just make sure its wet in the cap seems to work fine for now
burnerac
burneraccommented7 years ago
@Jaindoh, "when i would leave the cap off my pH pens " I suspect I don't know how to care for my Jellas pen. I had it calibrate once but since then the numbers just jump all over the place when I try to use it. Once you calibrate it, are you supposed to avoid letting it dry out?
Jaindoh
Jaindohcommented7 years ago
@burnerac, oh yeah. i used fox farms ocean forest without phing cause, "hey its soil". the stuff they use for buffer, oyster shell, is supposed to be known to kind of get used up or something? Either way the full strength fox farms nutes without pH were so strong, locked me out and I had like 3 or 4 lockout symptoms, lost a lot of leaves a lot uglier than that. Had no idea what to make of my various deficiencies until someone told me it was just ph lockout causing it. pH pen solved everything. Had some lighter but similar run ins when i would leave the cap off my pH pens and theyd die but seem to be working. Or when I let them get to where they need calibrating and dont do it. Still got a pretty good harvest off that one it was just a shame most of them were pretty lockout burned. Lost over half my leaf mass easily probably two thirds. Leaves are armor, personally (not really true but) i look at the roots as the 'real plant' and the leaves as what's there to make power and get messed up instead of the roots when things go wrong.

@burnerac, all sound like good ideas ;) plants looking ok, not all mature the same and in same time, it's important to find what works best for you ;)
burnerac
burneraccommented7 years ago
@bobo420, Thanks. I keep getting worried that they aren't growing big enough or that I'll do something stupid and ruin the plant before harvest. I figure I have two to three more weeks before harvest. Wish I could get more light in the tent but that's not in the immediate picture. Would really like to add Bloom Chaos to the nutrients but think I'll hold off on that for the next grow. I'm also thinking about building a space bucket for vegetation so I can get more harvests in a shorter time.

let her dry out good and remove some of those lower damaged leaves now that you have plenty of healthy ones and you should be good to go
Jaindoh
Jaindohcommented7 years ago
@burnerac, always introduce defoliation gradually so it depends how much youve been doing apart from taking too many in general (less risk if youve been) you should be good to go taking all the damaged ones theyre leaking a lot more water into the air than theyre generating power and are best replaced -- particularly since theyre below the canopy beginning of flip and after stretch some of best times to do this be careful tho and do it gradual just cause she been staying a bit sad
burnerac
burneraccommented7 years ago
@Jaindoh, I'm excited. Last night I saw evidence of bud sites starting to develop. Should I be careful to not remove too much?
