So this was supposed to be a White Train, but after bungling the first sprout I couldn't get my other seeds to germ, so gave up and threw this one in :D I was super keen for this strain too so should be fun. Same set up as usual:
1.2x 1.2 x 2m tent
Coco/Perlite 70/30 blend
11L fabric pot
600W MH for veg and 600W HPS for flowering
She's running alongside 3 other plants, but a couple of weeks behind them. :)
Going well so far! Happy with the growth rate. From the description she has limited veg time so I don't know that she'll be a good candidate for topping, but I'll decide in a couple days.
Sorry for the lack of pics! Not sure why I kept overlooking the little gal. Anywho she's growing quite squat and bushy - I'm guessing it's just a pheno trait cause the light is quite high up due to my bigger gals, I would have expected a bit of stretching, guess the 600W is enough that the distance is ok!
Pictured here is the start of a little LST. She's got dense growth on all the nodes so hopefully I get it right this time, she seems perfect for it.
So this week I was mainly focusing on getting the LST right. Def isn't perfect, but I've got a nice canopy developing. She's been growing quite bushy and dense so I've had to chop a bunch of fan leaves to try and get light to the right places, seems to be going ok!
Monkey was starting to get overshadowed in the tent, I had her next to the Cosmic Queen which is getting all space invadery, so I did some rearranging. Growth is going a better rate now that she isn't fighting for light and space 😄
Not much exciting going on this week! Just trying to keep the canopy even. Yesterday I took a fair few fan leaves off from the lower half, and cleared a few from the top to bring some of the bud sites up. Starting to pick up steam as growth has been a bit slow up til now. :)
Not sure why this gal is growing so slowly! But since my last runt turned out to be a monster I'm not too worried yet. Hoping she'll pick up next week. :) She's drinking fairly well at the moment so hopefully that's a herald of mega growth 😆
She's flowering nicely now. :) She got mad tip burn overnight when I hadn't changed the nutes so that was annoying, flushed her and started back with a lower dose, will see how she goes.
Been chopping all the growth beneath the canopy, gonna do another good defol tonight. Starting to get a bit of frost! :D
Most eventful thing this week was getting invaded by strayan wildlife! I left the tent open with the portable air con running just outside it cause we had a few days of 35C+ weather, was the only way to keep it cool in there. Next morning there were 20 odd flies and a skink in the tent. Took me two days to get the skink out - I was dropping water on the floor for him to drink which he seemed to appreciate, but the slippery little sucker just didn't want to be caught! Got him eventually though, he made it outside safely. :) Also FYI watching skinks wee is hilarious, both the back legs come off the ground and they do a little wiggle.
The 4 Assed Monkey seemed unaffected :P Starting to get some chunk slowly!
Decided the time was right for the PK Heavy this week, looked like she had 3 weeksish to go. :D The smell is really picking up, it's grapey and delicious.
She's stayed pretty well in the right shape so haven't had to do any more tying down, but gave her a bit of defol, you can see the difference in the canopy shots between day 57 and 61. Will chop a bunch more next week I think, try to power up those buds. They're developing nicely, so hopefully they'll be big chunkers soon.
The PK Heavy last week seemed to do the trick, bulking up nicely. :)
The smell has dropped a bit this week due to the heat - it's 40C outside the tent and I've got the portable air con running next to it but sometimes just can't keep those temps below 30C inside. :( At least the humidity has been bang on lately, so that's something.
I'm feeding daily now, so I normally do a full Nutrifield lineup feeding one day, then either a flush or an organic type one the next day with Monsta Bud and some Rock Resinator - not used the resinator before so I'm interested to see how she likes it. I'm mainly feeding daily to keep her growth moving in this heat, but I'm adding more flushes so I don't just burn her out. Seems to be helping, shes's bulking faster at least!
Bit of everything going on this week! Had a nasty heatwave for a couple of days, in the worst of it a few of the branches started falling down. Not sure if it's cause of the heat or they got too fat or maybe both... either way I think I shall pick up some silica to add to my nutes cause I get the same problem with half my girls and I don't like getting all sticky from tying them back in a semi-upright position :P
They're drinking at least 3L a day now. I've eased back a lot on the nutes, I don't do all of the above ones at the same time. Adding molasses as well. Finally started seeing some colour change in the pistils so hopefully not much longer to go!
I've no idea how I'm gonna harvest this though - our house is being put on the market in a week so we'll have to take down the tent every Saturday for inspections. Plants are easy enough to hide but all the smelly buds from this girl are gonna be a pretty obvious if they're anywhere near the house. I usually dry-trim then hang them for 5 days before I chop all the buds off and store them in jars, but I might have to chop this one into a container of some sort and dry them off the stem... easier to move around a container than a bunch of coat hangers with branches hanging off them. Any advice would be great!!
So had to pop this gal in the car for 6 hours on a hot day for the open house. SO HUMID IN THERE. Definitely some heat damage, the buds aren't as sparkly as they were before and the smell has diminished a bit. But they're hanging on!
Flush week! Would have liked to run her another week but there was a bit I could tell was getting some budrot or mould from the humidity stuck in the car so I chopped her on Day 90. Had to toss out a whole branch but saved most of her! Will have the harvest update in bout a week
So this was an interesting grow! She vegged a lot longer than expected so the grow time was a bit longer, chopped around day 90. I ended up losing about a third of her to mould - I wouldn't say that's a reflection on the plant really cause most people don't stick them in hot humid cars for hours during late flowering. Was a little heartbreaking but glad I got some good bud out of her. :) The extra veg time made it easier to train so she stayed nice and short with big chunky colas, would have been a pretty great yield if all the buds made it!
She's been curing about 3 weeks now and the smell is really sweet! Definite grape flavour when smoking, and the nugs are fairly dense. For me this smoke is all in the head - the high creeps in (although quite quickly) with a smooth up high, quite euphoric. Still gives you the energy to carry on with the day, but also great for kickin back watching Noel be ridiculous on Great British Bake Off. Then wanting to eat everything in the house. I'll definitely be growing this one again, but hopefully without the surprise of having the house on the market so she can stay in her tent and be treated like a proper lady ;)
For drying and storing i have taken a cardboard box and a metal hanger. Bend the metal hanger so you have rods and poke them through the card board creating racks to hang your branches from. Then just fold the boxes up and write kitchen on them. Know one will know 😉
@TeflonDonFarms, Cheers mate! Yeah I'm glad she took so long in veg, I'm terrible at LST but she gave me heaps of time to do a semi-decent job. I'm actually harvesting it atm, just been a little slow updating the diary. I'll pop in the week 13 later tonight and hopefully have a dried and weighed harvest post in a week. :D
Just picked up some PK booster and your right it did the trick! Gotta say those colas are mesmerizing to look at. So frosty. She’s coming together nicely!!
@Tazard, I run a $800 dehumidifier full time next to the tent, it helps a lot! But can't compete with 90% humidity, keeps it around 65% on those days which is better but not ideal :(
@biggreens420, 😂 The owner at the local hydro said the same thing! It's probably just cause statistically more growers are guys, so you have a wider range of 'giving a fuck' levels out there. But I'm happy to pretend it's cause we're just cooler 😉
@biggreens420, Cheers matey! Lol yeps I'm one of them crazy females 😂 My boyfriend tries hard but he's much better at cooking than growing, so he makes dinner and I take care of the babies.
Looking nice and frosty brother on some pics can see a slight nutes burn coming on the tips u might wanna start laying off the nutes this far into flower gotta say she is looking beasty though nice work💪
@biggreens420, Good call :D They burned a while ago but on your advice I took another look and it is progressing so I'ma back off and start leaning towards the flush. Cheers mate!
@ChefGreenThumbGardenofWeedin, Cheers! I'm curious to see when I take her down if the buds are super dense or she's just falling down from heat stress :P
You could look into freeze drying them. Or if you had to a water cure. But a water cure will strip ALL the smell and taste (great for stealth smoking).
@Tazard, Yeah I had a look at watercuring! But she smells so good can't bring myself to do it. I think we can time it so I chop right after this Sat's open house, get them drying in a cardboard box, hopefully have them all jarred in the week and away before the next Saturday.... it'll be tight but I think we got this
@biggreens420, Cheers mate! Now I just need her to start getting her stretch on, seems a little delayed. Probs cause it's so damn humid lately they aren't drinking much.
