Rough week 4 with two with 2 main events:
1. Weeks 1-3 were done without a pH meter, it finally came and I found out I've been watering (tap) my plants with 9.4 pH water.
2. My dog peeked into my tent while my back was turned and munched on 2 of my plants.
After finding out about the pH I transplanted the plants from their solo cups into 3 gallon pots with a mix of Coast of Maine Organic Grower's mix (75%), Perlite (15%), and Coco Coir (10%). First watering I bought 2 gallons of spring water (couldn't find distilled), added 1tsp calmg/gallon water, and pH'd with a bit of lemon juice down to 6.5.
As I was cleaning up after the watering, the smell of wet, fishy, soil wafted about the room and my dog decided to taste test the two closest plants (see pics). 1 was already the runt (Green Fire), the other was on par with my two bigger ones (Sweet Honey Nug).
In light of these events, I'm taking them as lesson's learned and moving on. It makes total sense why my plant's aren't as far along as I'd hoped but they're all photo-period so I feel like if I do the right thing from here on out they should be able to bounce back but maybe add a few weeks to the veg.
Week 2, day 16, the first plant to sprout (Green Fire) still only has it's first leaves (day 8 with cotyledon's). Other plants (separate strain) have now sprouted and surpassed the Green fire in terms of having true leaves. What's going on here?
😍Looking good GrOwSkI!! I have been thinking of growing some coco coir/perlite mix. on my next grow, what do you think? will it be easy for a noobie? I will be following your grow. good look and 🙏 happy growing!!👍👊
@DirtyDave,
wow, I was looking up. Stonington Blends Organic Grow Mix. that looks like great soil. I am not sure I can find it near me. what do you think of dry nutes ?
@1stmanny, much appreciated.
I would absolutely recommend the coco coir/perlite mix but, personally, I'm just using it as a starter until my plants get big enough then switching to Stonington Blends Organic Grow Mix to finish out the grow.
Plenty of growers on here seem to use the coco/perlite/vermiculite/etc. throughout the whole life cycle, just need to pay closer attention to nutes.
Appreciate the feedback on the "Stunted Seedling" Question, plant seems to be back on the right track. Following back up with some responses:
@rhodes68 - chosen correct response, in the end just had to be patient and wait it out, see week 3.
@Simscrog - thanks for the tips but that's kind of exactly what I already did. This one was stuck with no first growth after ~18 days, just took way longer than expected/compared to other plants.
@Blueboy2019 - Yeaaa, at this point, 3/4 plants are going according to plan so I'm not sure why you recommended to scrap the entire grow.
@OGgrows - Only using a sprayer on all plants at this stage and been pretty cautious about the watering so I don't think this was it, but it may have had something to do with. Definitely letting the substrate dry a bit more nowadays.
@Blueboy2019, I see where you're comin from but these are photo periods and should have plenty of time to bounce back...and it's only on 1 plant. Also, this being my first grow and all, I'd like to work through issues and learn that way I can be dialed in on the next grow. Appreciate the input but lookin for helpful solutions here.
