This is my first grow so I went with Blue Dream'matic which is an autoflower from FastBuds. I’m growing in a 5-gallon space bucket. The supplies list for the bucket build and grow is in my photos. Bucket Build (Bottom to Top) The 14” water tray is at the bottom with a bucket lid on top of it. The lid was drilled out with 2 different size bits to allow for drainage. An upside down 5-gallon bucket was placed on top of the lid. I cut the bottom of this bucket with a Dremel but left a small lip to keep the bucket from warping. A second bucket was placed on top with the bottom of that bucket also cut out. These buckets were zip tied together to prevent them from coming apart. The inside of both buckets was lined with foil tape to increase the reflectiveness and the outside was covered in black duct tape to make the bucket more inconspicuous. A LED strip was mounted inside the top bucket towards the bottom of the bucket. Outside the bucket a hole was made to allow the power cord to be fed out. A temperature and humidity monitor was mounted outside the bucket using a small bolt and nut. A hold was made to insert the probe into the bucket and placed at canopy height. The power strip was mounted on the outside the bucket opposite the temp monitor (backside of bucket). A lid with 4 holes was placed on the top bucket. Three holes were cut in a diamond pattern for the bulb sockets. In each socket, a splitter was used to place 6 bulbs (4 Daylight, 2 Warm White for Veg). All the lights were connected to a mechanical timer. The center of the lid had a large hole where the fan was mounted on the outside. Inside the bucket opposite the fan was a DIY carbon filter using the pencil holders. The guide to build that can be found here - https://bestseedbank.com/diy-micro-grow-carbon-filter/ The fan was connected to the fan speed controller and with everything on I adjusted the speed to keep the temperature 70-80 degrees. Inside the bucket is a 3-gallon Smart Pot. The soil used is 4 layers consisting of Fox Farm Ocean Forest Soil (6 Quarts), Happy Frog Potting Soil (3 Quarts), Perlite (3 Quarts), Earthworm Castings (1/4” layer). These were placed in that order from bottom to top. The idea was that FFOF can be a little too nitrogen and nutrient heave for seedlings, so the hope was to offset that a little early in the grow and as the roots go deeper they will gain more nutrients. The soil was watered completely (1 gallon tap PH at 6.4) 2 days before the seed was placed in it. I used the paper towel method to germinate. I wet a paper towel allowing the excess water to drip out. The seed was placed in the paper towel which was then folded over and placed in a DVD case. The case was wrapped in a towel and then placed in a warm dark place. I started this Dec 26 (Tuesday) and a tap root appeared on Dec 28 (Thursday). On Dec 29 (Friday) I planted the seed by placing it about one knuckle deep in the soil and gently covered it with soil. On Jan 2, the plant broke through the soil. This was all during the really cold winter streak we had. It was difficult regulating temperature and even worse with humidity. I placed the humidifier we own closer to the bucket and since the humidity has been consistent 30-40%. The plant was watered as soon as the soil felt dry when I placed my finger in it. I used a small soda bottle (12 ounces) with 5 holes in the top to water every 2-3 days. The soil meter was placed in the solid to provide an idea of how dry the soil is at a quick glance, but I take it with a grain of salt as these can be less than perfect over time.

End of Week 2 and I was getting slightly nervous. I wasn't seeing any serious growth. Of course seeing other grows didn't help. I kept feeling like my plant was lagging behind. Then I read somewhere that FastBuds have been known to be slow at the start and then explode around day 14. Sure enough I looked at the plant on day 14 and it grew a bunch. I've been watering every other day with a small soda bottle that I drilled some holes into the cap. It's been dry where I'm at and it feels like the soil has been drying up faster. Beyond that not much else has changed. I've just been letting the plant do it's own thing with as little interference as possible from me. I've been considering topping the plant since I've been reading 2.5 weeks is the best time to do it. I'll be researching some more if I decide to do it.

Week 3 - Really seeing some growth. Sure enough right after day 14 the plant started to grow. I noticed a little browning on a leaf and I'm not sure what that is. The plant hasn't had any issues growing with the browning. I'm now water with a coke bottle with 5 holes drilled in the top. The water is being PHd to 6.4. I'm wondering if my hard water is causing issues. I have an RODI that I'm considering using. Also haven't decided if I want to start my nutrients yet. I think I will wait to the end of week 4 considering my soil can be hot (FFOF/Happy Frog). I was going to top but I'm giving it a little more time.

I went away for a week and sure enough a problem showed up. My wife was taking care of my plant when she noticed the lower leaves yellowing. I had her watering the plant just like normal so I didn't think it was a water issue. By the time I got back the leaves were really bad. My guess is a nitrogen deficiency. I didn't think it would be an issue since FFOF is usually a hot soil and most places I read said to avoid nutrients until week 4. I started to add my Nectar of the Gods nutrients right away. To avoid nutrient burn I mixed a 1 gallon jug of nutrients but spread the watering of that jug over the week. I followed their mid-veg schedule which came with the sampler pack. Within days the plant was looking much healthier. It was standing tall and regaining color. I also did a foliar spray which seemed to have helped but also got on the leaves and caused them to look a little weird. Nothing to be concerned over. I also topped the plant at the end of the week when it started looking healthy again. I know it can slow growth, which it already seems like the plant is slow growing, but I did it anyways. This is all a learning experience so why not try a few things. I have increased watering the plant and do a coke bottle every other day.

Good recovery week for my plant. I purchased Neptune's Harvest Fish Fertilizer to combat the nitrogen deficiency and it seems to have worked. I add it to my coke bottle feeding every other day instead of adding it to the gallon of nutrients. They warn against mixing and storing and since I spread my nutrients over the week I mix for each individual feeding. The plant has been standing tall and I've noticed a bunch of new bud sites. The aroma of the plant has begun to make its presence. It's not a strong smell but if you stick your head in the bucket the smell is present. I'm looking to change over to a cob but the search for a decently priced DIY cob isn't easy. Everyone talks about building a cob for under $100 but I have yet to see that price reflected anywhere. The search continues. In comparing my growth at this point with other same strain grows I definitely think my plant is behind. I think there was some stunting early on and the nitrogen deficiency didn't help anything. I may switch to Coco Loco in my next grow or at least a 50/50 with FFOF.

First time defoliating and to my surprise there are a bunch of bud sites. I decided to also take the opportunity to low stress train. After defoliating I noticed a ton of bud sites were just too close together and there was no way they were going to get the sunlight they needed. I used 12 gauge wire and pulled as much as I can down and out. My watering schedule has changed a bit. Now every watering is with nutes (no nute burn yet) and I'm starting the week with 2 coke bottles and then hitting it every other day with 1 coke bottle. No there isn't actual coke in the bottle. This was also my last week feeding nitrogen. The plant seems to have recovered and don't see the need anymore. The smell is getting a little stronger and it's amazing. It smells better than anything I've got off someone local. I may have to get a better carbon filter if it gets any crazier, though my DIY filter is holding up. I changed two of my bulbs to warmer ones since the plant needs that wavelength more right now. I ordered parts for my DIY cob which should be here in a few days. I will set that up ASAP. I really want to maximize the quality of bud I grow. I feel like the plant was stunted so at this point it's about quality over quantity.

NUTRIENT BURN!!! I decided to try some Rhino Skin in addition to my normal nutrients and it caused some significant nutrient burn. It could've also been because I increased my nutrients for flowering, but I think a big part of it was caused by the silica. Will definitely try it again in my next grow but will use it much earlier on. I ended up dumping the nutrients I had leftover for the week and went with just tap water. I also had an issue with my ph meter and decided to dump it and spend the money on an Aspera ph meter. It was well worth the cost and my PH has been spot on since. The cob light is doing great and the plants immediately responded to it. Besides the nutrient burn the plant seems healthy. The smell has increased and I ordered a Phresh filter along with a Hurricane fan to handle it since my DIY filter just wasn't cutting it. So far so good. Now watering 1-1.5 liters every 3 day.

I've decided to be less hands on and just let the plant do it's thing. Just doing my feeding and leaving is under the light. Watering twice a week for a total of 1 gallon with nutrients. The aroma is fantastic.

More of the same. Watering and letting the plant do it's thing. I've noticed the leave starting to turn which leads me to believe it will be ready soon. It's has become pretty frosty. The buds are starting to fatten up. Can't wait to cut and try it out but I think I'm still a couple of weeks away. Still feeding a gallon of water with nutrients. I'm about to go into some heavier nutrient amounts for the final 2 weeks before a week of flush.

24 Hours of power out started messing with the plant. Happened twice in one week. It survived thank goodness. Overall not much has been changing. Plenty of frost really coming in and I was able to take a photo with a macro lens. Watering is the same with a shift to final stages of flowering nutrients. Overall the plant is doing fine.

Went away for a week so someone else was in charge or watering while I was gone. I fed half a gallon of water with nutrients the morning I left. Unfortunately the second watering three days later wasn't fully done. Instead of getting another half gallon of water the plant got maybe 1/4 of that. Which meant when I got back I had to do a big watering. I took a macro photo and the trichomes started to just turn amber so it looks like we are going in to the final week. The big watering was just Herculean Harvest. My plan is to water until Thursday and let the plant dry out before harvest. Here comes the home stretch!

After being stunted early on due to over-watering and not enough light the plant was still able to produce. The buds were a little airy but there were a few large ones. I will try this strain again down the road. Not bad for a first grow.
