This week, 3 of the 8 were ready, so I chopped them. They are drying right now. I also did some testing of the iPower 16 inch bowl trimmer I got a while back. Wet trimming, I found that it does a poor job with the leaves which need to be touched up after they come out of the bowl. They also noticeably reduce the sparkle and presumably the potency. Wet trimming with the bowl takes it from top shelf, brag-to-your-friends ganja to "ehh idk it's just some weed." I found that the bowl trimmer saved me about 30% on time, but it easily cost more than that in quality and bag appeal.
The bowl trimmer also came with a dry trim blade. I dried a few branches and ran the buds through the bowl. It did a MUCH better job. It did break off some of the buds, so I ended up with a bunch of tiny buds and some stems on the ones they came from. Some also fell into the trim bowl. I did lose some bag appeal and product there, but the trim was actually pretty good probably thanks to the dry leaves just flaking off. The blade probably didn't do anything. I would say that for mass-trimming a large amount of product, this trimmer used for dried buds is ACCEPTABLE! I bet a dry tumbler would do just as well but with less damage which was probably caused by the roughness of the silicone "fingers" pushing the buds around.
Oh yeah. I also lost power for 3 full days, so that was not cool at all. Fortunately, my generator can run pumps and fans and everything but the lights.
I'll have a full harvest report next week!
@Xanthur, yea i dont tolerate fluff or even include it in my weights. Wow hermie? I have STSed lower parts so i dont care when i leavem put it does lettem make more fem pollen.
Usually I never let it go more than 2 weeks appart.
I also started using make shift side lighting with cheap leds for the sides and lowers.
@GYOweed, I have an aloe Vera plant that's supposed to be good for that. I've tried staged harvests with no good results. One strain hermed immediately. The ones that it worked for still never bulked up or really developed much further. Seems to me it needs a few weeks to make a difference, and it isn't worth it to me to delay the next round. Now I just toss the light fluffy stuff into the trim bin.
Hey there,
Thanks so much for running a diary of our genetics 🙌
Let us know if you need any assistance, we’re more than happy to help.
Happy Growing !!! 🌱☘️🌴🍀🌿🌳
@Fast_Buds, Thanks! Looking forward to it. I'm actually running four different auto strains from your lineup. I came across an article about autos on your website that said to withhold bloom nutrients until around week 5 (i think?) I made up a batch to test it out, and I have too much N with some wicked purple stems from the resulting phosphorus deficiency. Is that still the overall better approach from your experience? I diluted the solution and added back in some bloom, and the stems cleared right up. This is all happening at only 350ppm.
