New room all set up and ready for life. Very happy with the 10 out of 10 germination rate after a miserable failure last week with Pineapple Express Auto where only 5 out of 10 sprouted. Good thing I had some freebies to fill in the tent.
Second set of leaves and a decent amount of roots leaving the rapid rooter, so let's put these girls into the big system to get ready for explosive growth!
They didn't do much this week after I moved them. Day 14 looks a lot like day 8. I'm sure they'll take off next week when their roots hit the water. The pots are partially submerged in the nutrient solution, but I'll hand-water to help out while the roots find the jackpot.
I wish my humidity were higher than 60%, but I don't have an industrial humidifier lying around... yet. I have a 12 disc fogger on the way, though!
Making some great progress this week. New fogger arrives tomorrow, so I should be able to crank up the humidity and the light intensity. The LEDs are still only at 60%, but they are ready for more.
Wow, what a week! My new 12 disc fogger arrived from the house of hydro. This thing brings the 10x15 room from 40% up to 65% in about 10 minutes! Not sure if it was the humidity, going from 50% to 100% on the LED power, or it's a stretch week, but these ladies took off! Tomorrow, I'll put up some nets to help with training. No pistils yet.
Had an interesting knock on my door the morning I cranked up the LEDs. Turns out, that was the straw that broke the camel's back. The power company came out to investigate a "heat warning" on the power line. My old house had the internal wiring all redone at some point with a 150 amp panel, but the outside was still on 100 amp wires. A new wire from an electrician got me back in business.
The best part about these LEDs is that they run at a perfect 83 degrees without AC and only on the lowest exhaust fan setting!
This week I was able to start net training a bit to spread out the plants. They are growing great! Still no pistils on these ones yet. Hopefully I get another week of growth!
What a week! These girls finally got the hint to GROW! They doubled in size over this week. We must be in stretch mode. Next week, I'll give them an undercut when pistils come in. They still don't like added nitrogen, and one of the girls is getting burned at 700ppm, but the 7 others like it, so sorry about her luck.
Lots of pruning this week. These things are huge! They definitely need more space than I gave them. Everything going well. Stretching seems to have stopped now.
A pretty normal week. I'm having trouble keeping the ec in check. Seems they don't want 750 ppm. They are also showing some signs of calcium deficiency which could be from the pH constantly dropping or from mixing concentrated nutrients to dump into the rez full of fresh water. I stopped doing that just in case.
Lots of development this week. I raised the light a few inches after measuring the light intensity and seeing some calcium deficiency on the canopy. Two of the plants have lots of orange hairs, and one of those is already 90% cloudy. It's not as bulky as I'd like, but hopefully the rest of them go for another couple of weeks and add some mass.
This week, I measured the light intensity with a lux meter. Roughly converted to ppfd, I was at around 1200. It was causing some canopy damage mostly on the Purple Lemonades, but I figured it was too much for this strain as well. I reduced the output of the LEDs to 75%. One of the plants has lots of orange pistils and a few ambers. I think I'll be chopping that one in the next week. The rest range from a few cloudy trichomes to not nearly ready. All of the plants are very frosty. Exciting times!
About half the plants have amber trichomes now. I started a 3 day flush at the end of this week, and I will be chopping them soon! I took a cola that was ready, and man it's great! Looking forward to harvest day.
This week, 3 of the 8 were ready, so I chopped them. They are drying right now. I also did some testing of the iPower 16 inch bowl trimmer I got a while back. Wet trimming, I found that it does a poor job with the leaves which need to be touched up after they come out of the bowl. They also noticeably reduce the sparkle and presumably the potency. Wet trimming with the bowl takes it from top shelf, brag-to-your-friends ganja to "ehh idk it's just some weed." I found that the bowl trimmer saved me about 30% on time, but it easily cost more than that in quality and bag appeal.
The bowl trimmer also came with a dry trim blade. I dried a few branches and ran the buds through the bowl. It did a MUCH better job. It did break off some of the buds, so I ended up with a bunch of tiny buds and some stems on the ones they came from. Some also fell into the trim bowl. I did lose some bag appeal and product there, but the trim was actually pretty good probably thanks to the dry leaves just flaking off. The blade probably didn't do anything. I would say that for mass-trimming a large amount of product, this trimmer used for dried buds is ACCEPTABLE! I bet a dry tumbler would do just as well but with less damage which was probably caused by the roughness of the silicone "fingers" pushing the buds around.
Oh yeah. I also lost power for 3 full days, so that was not cool at all. Fortunately, my generator can run pumps and fans and everything but the lights.
I'll have a full harvest report next week!
Chopped 5 out of 8 at the start of this week. Still waiting for a little more amber and a little bulk on the remaining 3. The results from the first batch are amazing! I'll have a full harvest report next week!
This strain was great. It was more uniform than I was expecting. I topped all 8 plants once early on and pruned many lower branches. One of the plants had wispy buds at first with narrow leaves. That plant got over it and eventually made great buds as well although they trimmed up a bit weird. The rest were great. The results were very impressive in my opinion. I only ran my lights at 75% for a total of 990w, so the real grams per watt is somewhere around 1.33 g/w.
I trimmed a few colas by hand and the rest in a bowl trimmer. Nobody can tell a difference. I bowl trimmed some of it after it hanged to dry, but the trimmer was a little rough and left me with some small buds and long stems where it tore them from. The wet trim turned out really nicely.
When I lost power for 3 days, I had a hard time with the humidity in the room. The purple lemonade ended up with a little bud rot, but the GSC had none at all. Not sure if it was the location in the room or just a more resilient strain.
