I'm moving to another apartment soon and this is some kinda partisan grow for now.
Don't have nutrients yet, even no PH-down, so it's just tap water. Coco was buffered most likely and has some nutrients in it.
But it is a substrate for flowers and I bought it in the closest supermarket :-D
The deficiency appeared most likely when I closed the top lid too tight and blocked natural convective flow and it also was too hot because of that.
Again some bad change in color appeared and again it was right the next day after I blocked airflow putting something big on top of the box.
UPD: I need to keep them small till ~ end of the next week so I will most likely start to mainline them soon.
I didn't cut Blue Dream CBD since it was too small compared to others.
Bending and then mainlining doesn't seem to be a good idea since branches may become unequal at some point, I think I will figure out what to do later.
Girls finally got a new house and some real food 😀 No first day of the week picture since I was moving stuff around and didn't set up the grow box at that time. The next day they moved into Homebox for seeds and seedlings, and finally arrived at Homelab 80L. Which is huge! I didn't do the measurements beforehand for no reason and now this huge thing makes a lot of noise in my bedroom 😅I like it though. Second cut for Pineapple Chunk (which is the biggest) and Blueberry 99 on day 6 of the week. The smallest lady is Blue Dream CBD, I think she couldn't handle the starvation and small pot first 3 weeks of vegetation and that slowed her down that much.
Mistakes:
Overfeeding - the 800ppm turned out to be 1000ppm at some point and I see yellowish tips on leaves and probably slower growth than it could be, so I added more water to mitigate this and hope ladies would speed up.
Early cuts - don't like waiting a lot for girls to recover so I cut PE and B99 two more times last and this week, which most likely would yield uneven branches. And now I'm not sure if I will cut BD and Critical more, probably would just go with HST and switch to flowering in two or three weeks. Let's see.
All good this week, another normal veg week.
I won't cut the two ladies that were topped, because I think they could be late to the party for the other two.
LSTed the main colas of the topped ones, and I think I'd twist them in spirals.
Changed the bucket to less transparent one and added a DIY lid to it, since the water started becoming green and muddy.
Girls drink more and are getting bigger day after day, if I didn't have a seedling near them I'd switch to flowering already.
If my patience levels won't drop too low they'll have one more veg week for them.
Mainlining attempt basically failed - branches are super uneven, I'll picture them before making a switch to 12-12. I'm not following the scheme anymore and probably won't cut lower branches/leaves on the mainlined ones.
Actually I'm not sure that I want to hassle with it more in the near future, maybe someday and only if I'd have a few autos growing alongside to allow myself a longer vegetation period. Or the second tent. Which also doesn't seem like a good idea at the moment :-D
LST/HST seems to work fine for me. It probably would be a good idea to compare the technique outputs on two exact clones.
And it's kinda painful for me to make those cuts and I'm a bit greedy about cutting and trying to cut them small and apparently that eventually leads to unevenness.
Otherwise, I'd make a bunch of clones on every cut and will run out of space to grow them pretty fast :-D
I guess this week is the last vegetation week. Can't wait to switch to flowering.
Everything seems normal, weekly progress is quite impressive but I'm afraid that they might go out of (my) control on first couple flowering weeks because I've seen this before and I used to grow in a much more limited space - had to do lots of training simply to fit the box.
I'm plucking lower leaves from time to time, some of them had some deficiency signs, but in general, they look fine.
And not overfed which is also something new for me 😬 I guess my skills are getting better.
Another conclusion is that I don't like dripping systems. Too much hassle - need to regulate timers to accommodate for plants' needs, and I once forgot to plug in the tubes and flooded the floor because of that.
My first ever grow was DWC, and now I prefer ebb & flow/NFT or something similar when you don't need to regulate the amount of water they get and you have a big tank for the solution so you're mixing it rarer. Now it's 10L bucket and GIB water pump and I have to mix it once in a couple of days. Meh.
Not a big deal since I'm checking them every day anyway, but last time I had an NFT-like flowing system that was on when the lights were on so that the pots were wet all the time, but roots were receiving more air at night. I don't know if its particularly beneficial for the plants but I felt like it makes sense.
I'm also kinda short on money now and not buying weed because of that so it's also a time of revelations about myself 😄 It turns out my problems are mostly not because of smoking but just because of the way I am. Fuckups at work are still happening and I'm still freaking out a lot and maybe even more than when I'm high all the time. And it's been a while since I smoked so I don't think it'll change in the future. I'm a fucking neurotic and probably have ADHD or similar.
Lots of words! Maybe I should write something for the copywriting contest 😃
Girls are stretching, I guess it's time to set a lamp a bit higher so that they all have enough light.
Growth is pretty fast, and they drink about a liter per day already.
Sigmas are starting to appear. Still boring actually, I'm not noticing huge differences day after day except stretching.
I've smoked a few plucked leaves and they seem to already have a slight effect.
First drying them in pax at 175С and then smoking through the pipe. Half a loaf is better than no bread they say. It helps to chill.
Self-revelations continues and I'm finding out that I'm an impulsive guy that needs to chill sometime.
So.
Few things already happened this week
1) Found some kind of fly maggots on lower leaves
This little motherfucker is apparently a sawfly maggot, at least while I was googling for small pink motherfuckers that eat leaves I found something similar.
I can't say how bad they can damage the plant, I guess I'll ask it in a grow question, but I don't plan to buy pesticides. Thank god it's not spider mites, hope it's not something serious.
2) Rearranged plants
I took individual pictures of them while rearranging, so you can see how ugly each one of them now. Ahah.
I'm making the same mistake again and HST-ing without any sense of symmetry to actually let them grow and not interfere with each other and getting a mess as a result. Pure chaos. I envy those of the fellow growers who can make it look like art. 😅
3) Defoliated. Ladies are naked now
I think this is the most controversial topic around growing cannabis and it is very difficult to find a good side by side comparison online. I plan to do one on my next grow.
At the moment I defoliate. My thought is that it will increase air flow and will direct the plants energy to the appropriate place. I generally do a first defoliation right before flower and then another after 21 days.
Hopefully this helps! Happy Growing!
Buds getting bigger, and now it looks like I didn't do defoliation at all. Blue Dream and Critical Kush are already full of trichomes.
I didn't do pruning well enough and there's a bunch of small bud sites in the lower levels of the plants. I'm thinking of leaving it as is and re-vegging all of them 😬
Seeing burned tips makes me feed it differently, 2 days with fulls set of nutrients, 2 days with Cannazym only.
I pruned them a bit more, not sure if it was a good idea but those little branches didn't develop a lot during this time.
On day 4 of the week, after HSO's comment on a weekly report, I've measured runoff and it was insane! 3k-5k ppm
Flushed them all so that runoff was around 800 ppm, and watered them with Cannazym only (PH around 6.1, EC 440 ppm).
Also moved them around a bit
Most likely the reason for conductivity going so high was that I removed the pots from platforms at some point and old runoff was probably soaking in.
Trying to be cautious with the nutrients this week. Again combining plain water at some days with full set of nutrients. Each day can't wait for the next one. Taking pics, comparing progress. I want more plants ahaha
The girls are flowering, and I am waiting.
Same changing of waterings from nutrient-rich to PH-ed water and Cannazym 2 days after 2 another. Not giving PK any more according to the Canna schedule.
Critical and B99 both look ready, flushing starting next week. B99 and Pineapple chunk now have 4 legs each, cuz as I was saying in the previous weeks I hilariously failed to mainline this time. I think I'd go different way next time - still would top it most likely and will try to keep the canopy flat, the way blue dream and critical training worked out seems to be quite good.
TBH I miss the community in real life, watching 'future cannabis project' youtube videos and looking at different breeders discuss the genetics origins and etc make me feel like I miss a lot of the information about the subject though lately growing became probably the most exciting hobby to me.
On a personal note, things seem to finally become better for me, I'm trying to get myself out of depression and become somewhat functional but a couple of last weeks all that I was capable of doing was mostly drinking booze and sleeping.
Cut Critical Kush and Blueberry 99 this week, harvest pics later. Critical got some mold :-(. That was partially the reason for cutting.
Blue Dream's branches are super heavy, and it's on flush mostly this week
Nice daily smoke for me compared to other stuff I have atm. Airy buds, smell almost like mango or something similar. I wish I had more of these. Will aim for quantity and quality in future grows.
Got some mold that was spotted at the end of the cycle, had lots of small dense buds. Branches were falling off because of bud weight. Cool strain in general
I failed main-lining with too early cuts and later was cutting and smoking branches from time to time, thus such poor output. Lots of lessons to learn, and the main one is to become more “patient. As usual.
Cut last lady at the 3rd day of week 9. Probably too early. I caught some mold and was afraid of getting more of it, and wanted to finish the cycle in general since I need to disassemble the box soonish.
Satisfied with her most out of what I got this time, she was forgiving a lot. And she smelled really good during flowering. Probably will try to grow more in the future
