Alaskan Purple from Seedsman. Got these as a freebie so I wanted to try an experimental winter grow. Bringing them inside at night for a few more hours light for a few weeks, then leave outdoor, weather permitting. So far the autumn weather has been very kind, 3 days of 30 degrees and sunny days. One seed is definitely a bit suss, it got stuck in the shell casing and I had to prod it off. Every since it’s a bit weirder so just see how it goes for a few weeks. 🍻

Week 2, one is coming along well, but the other is still behind. Smaller leaves and slower, interesting to see if it catches up or not. Other than that, so far so good. 🍻

Week 3, Alaskan purple looks really nice. Transplanted this week into a 6l pot to finish out. I’m keeping in a smaller pot than usual as I don’t expect it to get too big given it’s a winter grow. Will give a few more days before tipping once, then after recovery, leaving outside to flower and finish out. I am trying to avoid the coldest part of winter if possible. This is the best pheno of 2, easily, with the other a bit stunted ever since sprouting, so it goes to my mates and I keep the good one!! Cheers 🍻

Week 4. All good this week. Topped a few days ago so not much vertical growth, but fatter leaves and stronger stem. Nice deep green colour too. Recovering well from topping with new growth slowly happening now. 🍻

Week 5. Alaska is finally getting going now. It looks to be a tall plant, taller than the others I have in, and long spaces between branches. So I can see it being easy to maintain, but probably top heavy. I will need to keep watching and moving so all the lower branches get enough sun on them to extend out from the canopy. I have been extending veg by placing under light at night, which has stopped today so she can flower out from now. I am hoping to avoid any frost that is certainly due soon. So far so good, with amazing weather 🍻

Week 6. Alaskan is doing really well with good height growth this week. It seems like a tall plant with long spaces between branches. The bottom is a bit of a tangle and lower branches haven’t made it out from the fan leaves that well. Still all in all in good condition. They have been out in 12 hours or less for a full week and I have changed the feed, but no real signs of any hairs as of yet. Really happy with the colour and health of this one.

Week 7. Alaskan is so lush and healthy. Deep green leaves and great vertical growth this week. It has a tall narrow structure which is good for getting sun on the lower sections, making it quite branchy at the bottom. This is the second week of 12 hours really but I have only seen the first hairs this week. Gave them a feed of dr greenthumbs tea also which they loved. A bit of cool and rain this week so easy on the feed and water. Fingers crossed with the weather in coming weeks. 🍻

Week 8. A really good week.some warmer weather has arrived. 24 in the day and 14 at night, the plants have appreciated the mild nights I thing, great vertical growth this week and awesome changes with lovely long pistils firing out. I am sure I have even seen some deep purple ones , but will wait another week to be sure. Alaskan purple is a really pretty plant, tall and deep green. A final defoliation today and a clean out of the bottom. Loving this winter experiment 🍻

Week 9. Alaskan purple is right on track. Yet another week of nice weather, mostly fine and in the mid 20s. There is a very distinct smell too. It’s really tidy and organised, not overly bushy and long spaces between buds. I saw one of these at a friends place today, a few weeks ahead of mine, and the purple was vivid and awesome so really hoping to see some of that for sure. 🍻

Week 10. Alaskan is doing really well, with another pretty good week of weather. 26 in the day and 14 at night, in winter!! I’m starting to think I may be lucky enough to be able to grow year round outside in my climate. Alaskan has a great visual appeal for sure. Dusting of resin all over, buds are swelling up well and she has a very fruity nice smell. The leaves around the buds seem to curl up, a bit like If you eat something sour and your tongue feels like it’s curled up. Still has very tall pistils, so it’s got a while to go yet. Hoping the weather holds up as I am really looking forward to watching this one finish out. 🍻

Week 11. Alaskan is a real beauty. Lovely looking buds dusted with resin. Nice and tidy and uniform. Some lovely colour appearing up close, hoping to get some nice vivid purple before she is done. The buds aren’t really lining up along the limbs like some others I have grown, more like pop corns swelling out of each node. A bit of rain around this week so a lot of time indoors. Hoping I can just get a couple more weeks of reasonable weather to finish out, given we are entering the coldest month of the year. Fingers crossed. 🍻

Week 12. A week of ups and downs with Alaskan. On the down side I found two spot of rot and had to cut out both buds in full from the lower branches. Of course I’m not happy but it was always a risk pushing the grow so late into winter. I first just noticed a few leaves a bit withered and when I rolled my thumb on them a bit of bud dame out. So I cut the whole part and with a close inspection found one more area which was cut out. The rest looks fine and I reckon I only have a week to go. With temps a little warmer forecast next week I’m pretty hopeful now. On the upside, the lush purple started bursting out of her only in the last day or so. Yes, my first purple! Looks stunning, I am loving Alaskan now. Cheers 🍻

Week 13. Alaskan is ready! It is an absolute stunner, I am reluctant to chop I love looking at it each day, but I got a 3rd bit of mould on my widow and I said if I got another bit I would chop. I made it to July which is incredible really, but only just. Mould was on the radar daily and I don’t reckon I could push it anymore. So next up the harvest and smoke, but before that I have to say this is the most beautiful plant I have grown. Dark purples fading onto the leaves with the green veins, and bright purple in the buds with the green and red hairs. Not gonna be a big yielder I can tell already. Buds are like fluffy nuggets and spaced apart. I recommend Alaskan for an outdoor grow as it is tidy and easy to maintain. Sadly it’s the off season now so I will have to wait at least a few weeks to go again which will no doubt be delightful news for my wife. 🍻

Week 13. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!

The Alaskan experiment. I harvested in mid July Southern Hemisphere, so the middle of winter. This was always an experiment to see how far I could push an outdoor grow in my region. Challenges were lower temps, rain and early frost resulting in some loss to mould, as I anticipated. The yield was also no doubt affected. On the plus side I got her through in good shape and the quality is as good as it could be. I am happy to give Alaskan Purple an 8 because overall,,,, Grow - Easy. Topped well, flowered on time, good size, very tidy and easy to maintain. Got some mould but it was winter so give a tick there. Yield - Not the greatest. Not ideal conditions granted, but the shape is lanky and buds are like puffs rather than big long colas. Visual - Stunning. The prettiest I have grown. Amazing blend of purple and green and I really could not look away sometimes. Buds - Top shelf. Strong but not knockout. Tastes exactly like it smelled! The look of the plant makes you think sweet, berries and cream and that is what you get. Really nice shit. Well done Seedsman, Alaskan is a good one. I recommend for an outdoor grower who loves the visual appeal because this one is gorgeous 🍻

Seedsman Alaskan Purple. I am so happy to have this one in the bag. As an experimental grow deep into winter, there were a few tough times late in flowering, and I will take that lesson away for subsequent years. I probably pushed it a few weeks late. Still, she stood up to the test and delivered a modest yield of high grade. I am more than impressed with this one. Above all, Alaskan is a beautiful spectacle. The colour tones that develop late into flower are stunning. It’s hard to look away sometimes, with almost daily changes as the purple tones burst out at the tops and creep down the plant before maturity. I definitely recommend this for the outdoor organic grower who loves the visual appeal. Not to mention a jar full of great bud. 🍻

@Spliffi, Ihave a mate in ZA. He was growing fine. Native plants do well. And ZA is famous for many Sativa strains. Indica's do better in cooler climate. And common wisdom is that 0 C is the temperature when your have purple on purple strain. So, 13 C is just fine. I am in Thailand. My coldese is 20 :D :D :D . Today, I am panting in 40 degree heat. Plant just stop growing in this heat. And I am waiting for my winter.

@Med_in_Tropic, thanks Med,, I didn’t really know that,, they were just freebies that I thought I might experiment with through winter... we do have beautiful winter weather where I live. It can get a bit cold, like top temps of 15 in winter, but really dry and clear through the day so hoping to just get something worth while in the “off season”. Thanks for your advice always mate 🍻
