This is my first grow. I have raised beds in my backyard that I am using. I'm direct-sowing the seeds into my bed. I've got pretty good soil, but decided to add perlite, manure/compost and mushroom compost. It's been great to my vegetables over the last few years, so hoping it translates to weed. I live in the southeastern US, where it's pretty much high 60's during the day, low 50's at night.
I planted 2 seeds of GSC Extreme (ILGM), and one each of 4AM and Sour Stomper (Meph).
4AM - sown 4/18...sprouted 4/25
SS - sown 4/18, sprouted 4/24 (eaten)
GSCE - sown 4/20, sprouted 4/26 and 4/27
The SS seedling was eaten by a slug or cutworm, so I've got a 2nd SS seed in a jiffy pot indoors...hoping to catch up to the others. After seeing my seedling get eaten, I decided to add diatomaceous earth around each of my seedlings each night, and cover at night with a mason jar. So far, so good...as the other three seedlings seem to be progressing along untouched.
Slow growth this week. Temps for the past week have sucked for growing, and are staying in the low 60's during the day, 40's at night. I think this is holding the growth back, as it feels my 2 week old seedlings are much smaller than others I see on this site. Otherwise...all seedlings look healthy and green...just small.
Did start giving all 4 plants a dose of Neptune's Harvest fish fertilizer. 1 fluid ounce per gallon is the mix ratio I'm using. Will continue this every two weeks. Hoping for temps in the 80's this weekend to jump start some growth!
Weather is finally starting to warm a bit, but tons of rain and overcast skies. Two of the plants (CDLC and GSCE) are both doing well size-wise, but the 4AM and SS are both really small. I think the poor weather during the beginning of the grow, along with only 5 hours of direct sunlight per day has really stunted them. That said...all plants look healthy, no nutrient deficiencies that I can tell, and only minor insect issues.
Growth on the CDLC and GSCE is starting to pick up. The other two (4AM and Sour Stomper) are lagging well behind in growth. Think they're just in a bad spot without a lot of direct sun, and the cold temps at the beginning of the grow really stunted them. Fighting some insects...so hitting them with neem oil for past few evenings. Just starting to see some pistils on all of them. Don't expect much from the two smaller ones...but hoping they all put on some additional size as they move through flowering.
First week of serious flowering. Seems like I can't quite get my insect issue under control. Sprayed one last time with neem oil...and will probably try and ride out the next few weeks with spot spraying or none at all - since I've read neem ruins the taste of the buds if I get any on them. The pics are from my two biggest plants...Mephisto CDLC and ILGM Girl Scout Cookies Extreme. My other two plants (4AM and Sour Stomper - both Mephisto) are flowering, but they are so small, I don't expect to get much of anything out of them. Poor weather when I planted (cold temps in late April and early May) and lack of a lot of direct sunlight probably stunted them so much that they never really recovered.
I also think my soil might be too hot. I have five 2-week old seedlings going strong right now...but 2 of them show burning on the two lower leaves. Not sure if this is from too hot of soil, or some kind of deficiency. I'm tempted to let it ride and see how things develop with them over the next few weeks.
Pretty good stretching in the second week of flowering...especially from the ILGM GSCE. The Mephisto CDLC is still doing well, although starting to notice some discoloration in a few of the top leaves. We had almost two solid weeks of rain, but plants still looking pretty good. Sunny and hot next few days, so they'll definitely have the opportunity to dry out a bit.
