My friend gifted the plant to me. He said he germinated the seeds on April 19th. It is Humboldt Seed Company's Humboldt Sour Diesel. It's technically more like week 2, but I am tracking the grow from week 1 of me caring for it since I don't have any earlier pictures. Happy Growing everyone.
Just watered it once this past week. About a small water bottle's worth on Tuesday. Watered it earlier today (Saturday, May, 2). This is the beginning of the second week. The weather will be hot so I am going to be watering a bit more frequently, but smaller amounts. I typically start watering every other day around this time of year because the temperature will start to pick up to high 70s, early 80s. This week the temperature went up to 97 degrees fahrenheight or 36° celsius. The background plants I've been developing in the video have been growing since December 9th, no lie...I thought they were going to die because of the cold, buy there they are.
This week will be cooler than last week. My plant is up to 50 cm or about 19.7" of growth. I could spot a few calyxes finally, but is expected from a feminized seed. I transplanted to it's final home...a 20 gallon fabric pot with plain FFOF soil. Just water until the end of the year typically...I may add some fish emulsion and molasses in August...still uncertain at this point.
This week will be a bit cooler. It sprinkled lightly on the third day. The plant is developing a citrusy...very tomato leaf smelling type of aroma. I don't top or fim because i am unfamiliar with the nuances of the techniques and when I have tried I feel I harmed the growth of my plants and I also don't have height restrictions. Overall I get decent yields just letting the plant do its thing. I am trying using bloom along with my fish fertilizer this year. I haven't added any extra nutes so far.
This week is going great. The plant looks healthy. Added some fish fert and FF's big bloom over the weekend. Watering every other day between one and three gallons at a time depending on need. Going for a moist top layer every time to combat any possible heat. There are bugs to deal with since it is outdoors, but no major issues so far. I try to work with the environment as much as possible every season.
She is stretching. No nutes this week, but watering plentifully. She's got a good aroma starting to develop also...still just very lemony. Not certain how much she will grow in a 20 gallon pot. Looking good so far. I did foliar spray some soap with water for fear of mite problem. I saw some white dots around a near plant. A remarkably easy grow so far. I hope the good stretch lasts until harvest.
I did not add nutrients this week, but I did transplant to a 45 gallon pot and added more FFOF soil. There were strong winds reaching 38-40mph; no damage due to the wind. I did notice some damage on the leaves, but this was due to a soap solution I sprayed on the plants that was too strong combined with condensation and high temperatures. I am also being careful of controlling the caterpillar population. I don't tent or screen so I have to deal with all types of insects and issues outdoors throughout the year. I want to believe that the more natural the grow, the better the final product. Final comment this week is that plentiful watering during wind and heat storms goes a long way with the plant. She can take a lot if given the right nutrition and hydration. The smell is intensifying and the buds are starting to form. A long way still from harvest...about 16 to 18 weeks approximately. Getting several monarch butterflies visiting.
Added big bloom and molasses to help with the flowering phase. The soil is rich and the plants don't like it when you add nutrients much...I am adding as little as possible but sativa dominant variations tend to be a bit delicate sometimes. Looking to have cooler temperatures next week
I added a little bit of fish fertilizer this week, but that was it. I haven't added anything in the soil for about a month or so. Its budding just fine. I don't think it needs flowering juice at all yet, but we will see. It has been humid in the morning and then hot thereafter. The weather hasn't been too harsh honestly. I have to water almost daily when the temperatures are above 90 fahrenheit.
This week I added all the stuff that I have used on the diary. At one point I found a small trial pack of humic acid in a pouch. I mixed it and gave the same amount to all the plants. Never used it before as a concentrate or solution.
Apart from that; this week has been cloudy and humid so I watered significantly less. I am getting yellowing on some leaves, then browning on the edges. The buds look awesome, the growth spurt it had a couple weeks back is starting to fill in real nicely. I am expecting about 2' to 3' long colas this year; not certain how I'm going to dry it. Their chunky too 😍.
Just been adding a lot of water due to heat. Having issues with PM. Buggers main...had to toss out a small branch that was powdery. Well I actually put it to dry in my room...😄Treated the rest of the plant with some baking soda and soapy water. Will have to apply multiple times. Trichromes are between clear and milky white. I checked with a jewelers loupe. Other than that she's looking good. Still no topping.
She looks good. I didn't add any nutrients this week. To be honest, I hardly add anything during the season when I compare to other grows.
Trichromes look like an arm holding a sphere. No T-tops like on skunk variants, maybe later. We will see.
Colors are starting to vary on the plant from golden to baby blueish and solid canna-green. It's hard to believe she's got 2 more months to go, but the trichromes are a tell-tale since they are mostly clear with some milky-ness beginning to develop.
Caterpillars continue to cause havoc. Looking out to spot them. Watering has become less of an issue with the temperatures leveling off in low eighties. Plant is thirsty as expected for this time of year.
Has someone out there used chillis to make a treatment for bugs (i.e. caterpillars off by habanero...😁) ? I don't know? I want to use something organic preferably.
That's it. Thanks.
I have been trying 2tbsp cayenne pepper powder + 2tbsp garlic powder + 1 tsp dish soap + 1 quart of water
Not all that sure it's helping, as I am slaying caterpillars on my Sour Diesel plant daily.
Really cool to watch an outdoor Sour Diesel grow with no topping/LST... as I am chopping the crap out of mine.
Out of curiosity, what growing zone are you in?
@@Sonoma_Sungrown, I'm considering covering the plants during peak summer with a pop up canopy to minimize heat stress. They can take they, but they require constant watering and may still droop on you.
@@Sonoma_Sungrown, having issues with caterpillars rotting my buds. Ugh. On the upside, the leaves are super sticky with resin. It looks like it will begin entering it's window of viability in about three weeks or so...I don't want to harvest prematurely...
Gotta love me some Humboldt Seed Company Seeds.. Growing their Notorious T.H.C. for my very first growing experience! Come check it out! Happy Growing!
@Nor_Cal_Kannabliss, Same here. I tend to just grow from the seeds I have, but my friend gifted me this one as a seedling. Your plants look spectacular. Outdoors; I am dealing with caterpillars and some lurking condensation that burned the leaf edges when the sun hit it. Didn't notice until after it happened. Shaking them early every morning. The caterpillars are just part of nature. I don't screen them because I want plants that can handle the environment; this way I can more easily select varieties/genetics for my outdoor grows.
@RADE245, It sounds like she's getting close!
In looking at your plant, she still has quite a few white stigma.
Have you checked her trichomes under a loop or microscope yet?
