for plants that you don't top the main stem, i prefer what Nebula (GrowWeedEasy) calls "no technique training" i.e. stem at 90 degree right angle following across pot, lets all the nodes develop.
with or without that you can also utilize "ponytailing", put a pipe cleaner around the top like a ponytail so the bottom can grow more even.
