Week 1. Vegetation

Seedlings took off like they should. Had problems with my OG Kush Autoflower keeping it alive. Planted another one but it died also. Might have been overwatering or the soil. Because these are autoflowers, I'm going to try growing multiple crops in the same grow shed. My RH is constantly under 50% so I'm thinking about drying in the grow shed also....unless somebody tells me otherwise

Was surprised that they didn't seem to grow as much as I anticipated during Week 2. Kept them under the CFL light inside the bathroom cabinet. This is where my inexperience is showing. My next "crop" will be straight into their permanent grow container.

I was scouring the internet daily for information. Like a brand new parent that doesn't know anything about raising a baby, I wanted to provide the best home possible. It was about this time I was thinking about giving them some nutrients/fertilizer so I grabbed some of my wife's MiracleGro, diluted into my spray bottle and gave them a little drink.

Transplanted into 5 gallon cloth bags and into the 4x8 shed I built on the side of the house. It's April 8th and the nights are still getting a little cold so I put a small heater in the shed to keep the temps from getting any lower than 70 degrees. At this point I'm still trying to figure out the nutrient thing. The soil is just straight Dr. Earth's Pot O' Gold and a healthy dose of worm castings amended into the soil.

Switched over to the ViparSpectra Pro P1500 lights and the plants seem to love the extra light. Little did I know at this point the plants are about 1/2 the size they should be due to the insufficient light. But hey! They're not dead yet so I'm still dreaming of pounds of buds from my 3 little plants.

This week I learned the difference between an autoflower and a photo. I started using General Organics for nutrients a couple weeks back and just started following their schedule. I discovered that the nutrients dropped my refrigerator-filtered water's ph to 4.5 so I add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to bring the water back up to 6.5-6.8. I adjusted my light schedule to 12/12 but then later learned that autos can go 18/6 with multiple stages of grows going on simultaneously. In the mean time, recently, my photo has started to flower, so now I'm thinking about switching the lights back to 12/12 until the photo is harvested. I don't think that'll hurt any new autos I start to grow.

Southern California had some unusually hot days and the temps inside my grow shed spiked to the low 90's. I've read that temp stress will turn my plants into herms so now I'm thinking, "hmmm". What do I do now? Just let them all go and not plant any new plants until harvest? Do I have to wipe down my walls and sterilize afterwards? I bought a portable AC unit that I set to 78 degrees. Temps still spike to 84 before it kicks on and keeps the shed around 80. Humidity ranges from 27-45% but is always low. Is that stressing the plants also?

My grow shed spiked into the low 90's for a couple days before I bought a portable AC unit. I'm wondering if the heat stressed my plants and caused them to Herm? I just posted all the pictures I have Week1 through Week 8 of my first grow. Any other comments would be appreciated.

No issue here my friend. These all look female. I don't see any pollen sack (male) so there is no male or no hermaphrodite. Keep growing, she looks amazing

At this point, things are getting kinda boring. I've got the temps under control, the humidty is ok, watering is becoming a drag mixing the nutrients everytime. Thinking I'll spend more time on the soil amendments prior to my next grow to minimize the need to add nutrients with every watering.

My Bergman's' Gold Leaf (fem) started flowering while lights were on 18/6. The lights were also on at night to combat the heat of the day. Then I realized, after getting my portable AC unit, that wasn't such an issue, so I left the lights off for 36 hours to get on a "daytime" schedule and switched the timing to 12/12 for the Bergman's. I figured my auto's won't care so much between 18 or 12 hours of light. Maybe a little smaller yield. I don't know...we'll see!

While doing a little LST on my photo, I split the stalk a little. Doesn't seem to have hurt it (yet) but wondering what I should do, if anything?

Moved 2 of my auto's outside and they're getting fatter. Trichomes are about 50%-75% milky. I've noticed a few amber trichomes but only individual ones, not "5%" or "15%"

On Week 11 Day 74, I've been noticing the leaves turning yellow. I'm assuming because we're getting close to harvest, but after reading more about nutrient deficiencies I'm wondering if I should be doing something about it. I started flushing a 1.5 weeks ago.

Hey :-) Look with a microscope 👌If the trichome heads are about 70% milky and 30% clear, you can start with the flush. If the trichomes are about 70% milky and 30% amber, it is a very good time to harvest 👍🙏🏻 but do not pay attention to the leaves of the trichomes on the buds 👍

Ok folks, went out to check the trichomes and smelled something funny...like mold. Saw these spots on several leaves and now I'm panicking so close to harvest. Let me know what you think and what I can do about it, if anything. Thanks!!

Looks like white powdery mold.. There are quite a few products and homemade concoctions people use to treat WPM. Among the effective treatments are: Milk (1:9 ratio of milk to water) Baking soda (2 tablespoons per gallon of water) Hydrogen Peroxide (1 teaspoon of 35% H202 per gallon of water) SM-90 (1:5 ratio of SM-90 to water) You can also give them a bath at harvest time to help rinse off whatever you don't completely get rid of! Hope this helps!

Harvested while trichomes were mostly milky, less than 5% amber. (really, how the hell do you put a percentage on that??) Bottom line was, I saw some amber and that was enough for me to harvest. I was worse than a kid on Christmas morning. Dried in 3 days, a little over dried due to low humidity, AC going non stop, RH in my grow shed being, on average, 51% with lows in the upper 20's, lower 30's. Curing in jars with 62% RH packets which is restoring some moisture to the buds. Smoking was slightly harsh, possibly due to the late mold issue just prior to harvesting. Sprayed with 40/60 milk/water solution, didn't bathe/wash the plants before harvesting. Could have been sum bugs...who knows. I'll suffer. I dont give a shit. Now for the purely subjective: I've been smoking since I was 14. I'm 56 now and this was some of the best shit I've ever smoked. Good strong buzz but not overpowering. The high lasted 3-4 hours. It was a nice heady buzz, but relaxed and socialable. Not couch locked at all. Regarding the taste, I'm not gonna lie: To me, smoke is smoke. I don't taste all the different flavors that everyone talks about. No bubblegum flavor, no sweet, flowery, tropical bullshit. It's burning leaves, not a fine wine. To me, it's like taking a pill. You benefit from the after affects. Having said that, the after affects are fine like wine and completely enjoyable. If it weren't for the fact that I'm still curing, I'd be smoking this day and night. Overall, I would totally rate this a success for my first grow. Any negative take aways from this review can probably be attributed to my inexperience and novice state. I have 9 more seeds of this Bubblegum and Jack Herer and look forward to growing them. I'm currently mixing/making some living, no till soil for my next batch of autoflowers so I can try to get away from the fertilizers and such. I hear the yields are lower going pure organic, but I like the ease of that. I'm also going to start new crops every 4 weeks to keep the buds coming.

Great stuff, See review for Bubble gum. Gonna grow more of this stuff. In fact, I have another strain, Black Jack, that I'll grow with the Jack Herer to compare the two.
