Seems a little funny that the strain name is misspelled in a few places (with an extra R), like the way it's listed in the drop-down menus to create a diary, but I found that spelling on the container they were actually shipped in too (see my first photo). Jack is laughing somewhere. These seeds were "freebies" that Seedsman gives away when you buy other seeds. I have a stockpile of seeds that I'm trying to work thru, many of which I acquired last year... and I decided to make this particular strain my main sativa of the summer... so this baby will probably be growing into late September or October. I have a fairly large crop of mainly CBD autoflowers currently growing that will be replaced by a crop of all non-autoflowers which will start out indoors and then be moved outdoors sometime in June. My new technique for starting diaries is that Week 1 actually covers the first 2 weeks after breaking ground. The diary starts about 7 days AFTER the seedling breaks ground and I move the baby into a new container. So I repotted this baby today from her seedling container into a 2 gallon pot - where she will remain until I move her outdoors into a 10 gallon fabric pot in about a month. There is no "seedling" stage on GrowDiaries and these babies aren't really "vegging" in week 1.

This baby is looking the best of the new crop of photoperiods. Perfectly symmetrical and starting to veg nice in her new container. Gave her some vegatative nutes today for the first time.

I actually decided to top this little beastie yesterday because she's growing like a runaway freight train. Time to put the brakes on a tad. We're just coming out of a REALLY hot spell out here on the west coast, the last 3 days have been well over 90 degrees. The coastal fog thankfully returns today and the temps are now back to normal.

This girl is really taking off like a rocket after topping. Can't really believe how fast she's turning into a bush. Probably gonna need to repot her and push her outdoors a little sooner than I thought. Within a week or two. Solstice is two and a half weeks away. Been very hot this week with another 4 day spell in the 90's. June 9 >> Gave all my summer girls and underside trim this evening at the beginning of the light cycle, which starts at 7pm. This will be the first girl kicked outa the tent. She's the only sativa I'm growing this summer with 4 other hybrids and she's kicking butt growth-wise. Just humming along, drinking more than the other girls in the tent presently. I'll probably stick her outside for a few hours tomorrow to start getting her acclimated to the intensity of sunlight. Once I repot her - she's outdoors for good because I don't like lifting 10 gallon containers.

Graduation day here, time to move to the great outdoors..... for the rest of your life. Transplanted her from her plastic 2 gallon container - which clearly was not enough to hold her this long - into her final 10 gallon fabric container - which I used last summer. The pile of dirt I started out with was basically recycled soil from all the autoflowers I just harvested recently. New soil on the bottom, recycled soil around the sides. Gave her another significant trim at the bottom - and a good feed to flood her new container with fluid - which took a tad less than 2 gallons as she started pretty dry. Gonna be hot this afternoon. Gave her about 3 hours of acclimating in the sunshine yesterday to prep. June 13 >> Sitting on the patio admiring my girls, I noticed what might almost be pistils on this girl.... and I said whoa nellie... we ain't done topping you yet. It's probably just an optical illusion, she can't possibly have figured out how to flower in 3 days. If this topping stunts or slows her down it's no biggie for me really. We gots all summer to repair our relationship, before I kill you of course. Nothing personal. 😁

She's starting to settle into her new home nicely. Grew close to 10 inches last week. We're done topping her for the summer ... future trimmings will be done to the undercarriage. I can already tell that this will be the thirstiest girl on the patio this summer. She drank the most when she was in the tent, and she ain't slowing down near as I can tell. Mostly in direct comparison to my White Widow which is the same age/size/container size. I'm drinking more this summer too, to insulate me from the Trump virus. 💀

Settling into her final home after being topped a second time, she's looking quite nice. She has started to develop pre-flowers so this might just be the last week I label as veg before we shift to flowering. Gave her some veg nutrients this morning and that's probably the last of that.

This girl is very very thirsty. Like all the time. She's the only sativa on my patio with 4 other hybrids - but nobody can drink like her. I've been kinda rationing fluid in 1 gallon/day increments to my four plants that are in 10 gallon containers (one in a 7 gallon container) - but she knocks back 1.5 gallons and seems just as dry the next morning. I've seen this phenomenon before with my outdoor sativa's. That's why she's got the thickest stalk at the base right now - thicker than any of my fingers now. Not flowering yet. Long way to go.

This girl is starting to show enough beyond preflowers that we can call her flowering now. I've moved into the transition mode for nutrients and we're not quite into using flowering nutes just yet. Motoring along in the vertical growth department with about 1" per day. Almost screwed up this morning and thought I could get by without giving her any water today when I went out to play golf... only to find her looking a bit wilty when I came back from walking my dogs later in the afternoon. Fixed that up... did a little bit of underside pruning and away we go.

5 inches of growth last week. I have no problem with her slowing down a bit. We have a long summer in front of us and she's getting pretty tall as things are. She's not flowering quite as hard as my Wonder Pie's, but still flowering. Classic skinny sativa leaves. The weather has been somewhat moderate, cooling a bit to the low 80's worst case daytime. Very little fog.

Everything just seems to be on cruise control with this girl. She drinks like a fish compared to the other girls on the patio, but I haven't had any issues with this girl along the way. There's an occasional small worm critter that seems to like to snack on some of my plants - before I kill them of course - but they seem to like Gorilla Glue more than the other girls (but that may be more a factor of where that girl sits on the patio and where things fall outa the sky)... and I have enough foliage to share in some respects... nobody's doing any serious chomping in the garden presently.

Another boring week for the only sativa on the patio. The flowers are starting to become more pronounced (not like Wonder Pie where you can see them from 50 feet - but still nice). Also slowing down in the vertical growth department. Still drinking like a fish, I give her 2 gallons of fluid a day. Temps cooling down this week with traditional fog, but she will still drink everything give her.

I decided to put off feeding by one day because yesterday was the first day all summer that the fog never broke. All the girls on the patio hadn't drunk their usual amount of fluid, so I didn't wan't to complicate feeding them less, so we'll dry out a little a feed up tomorrow when the sun comes back to normal.

We're basically entering a heat wave here and the temp is likely to average around 90 for the next week. I might up the water this girl is drinking by a half gallon or so just to keep her hydrated. She's never shown any ability not to drink everything I give her. I found after today's 100 degree day that White Widow had developed a fair number of yellowing fan leaves. Not that way with Jack.

This girl is starting to show her sativa bonafides. Heat is no problem for her, and we're coming out of a historic heat wave here in California. She has stopped growing vertically but she's starting to put on some weight, finally. The heat has actually advanced the age of some of my plants a week or two. My primary Wonder Pie is ready for harvest like now, but she'll have to wait until next week.

Pretty much done growing vertically, maybe an inch a week at this point. But she's certainly starting to fatten up. Fortunately only one bud was damaged coming out of the recent heat wave with some thunderstorms thrown in. Wonder Pie sustained more damage but the buds were further along on that girl (harvested her last Tuesday). This baby will ripen later in September, but she's looking pretty nice. Just started finding some leaf yellowing this morning so we cleaned those up.

Things are starting to look mighty tasty with Jack, and she's giving off a wonderful scent nowadays... more noticeable than the neighboring White Widow or Gorilla Glue. We're about to enter a significant heat wave out here in California for a few days but this is the girl I least worry about. She drinks heavy and can withstand the heat. She's got some leaves starting to turn yellow, mostly interior and bottom; but nothing like White Widow, which I think will be next to be harvested.

I was somewhat shocked to see bud damage on two tops that hadn't shown up before - so it's probably time to pull the plug on this girl. I will flush her tomorrow. This heat wave has affected everybody EXCEPT my gorilla glue. Not sure why. Still thinking.

Happy Harvest Day!

The buds on this girl are pretty immense, and she is so sticky at the moment I needed 3 pairs of gloves to finish off the plucking of fan leaves and washing, which was really necessary with all this ash and junk falling outa the air at the moment. I'm not sure we've actually seen the sun for about a week, and the air quality is labeled as "unhealthy". Bud damage was sustained at a number of locations coming out of our second heat wave of the summer, 3 or 4 days pushing 100 degrees, which is not normal.

September 14 >> Harvest morning. This girl wins the sticky award for the girls on the patio this summer. I could only clean and wash about 6-8 pieces before I had to change gloves because of too much resin. WAY stickier than anything else so far... and there's only one girl left in that competition. Gorilla Glue is the stragler. A few bud tops were damaged at the end coming out of our historic heat waves here in California, and she really needed that wash after all the gunk that has fallen outa the sky, but she'll have a pretty nice yield nonetheless. I'll be back in a bit to update weights and taste things. ======================================= September 28 >> I had the luxury of waiting until a convenient time to trim Jack because she was hanging in my front bedroom and not outdoors in the heat. Just the same, two weeks is usually longer than I wait before trimming, but this worked perfect for the TrimBag. She was "crispy". She still came in with more buds than trim in the final analysis. 261 grams of buds and 162 grams of trim. Most of the trimming could be accomplished by just rubbing the buds lightly with my fingers to knock off what the Trimbag missed. That's the way I like it. I was done in less than 2 hours for the whole plant.

Are you in the southern california area? Do you know how much direct sunlight they are getting? They look very big compared to mine and i put mine out from clone on 5/23 about the same size as yours were on that date too. Looks great man.

dalemaccommented5 years ago
@Toffy, I live in the east bay area of northern california... but west of the hills so we still get cooled by the fog here. East of the hills and I'd need air conditioning in my house and we don't have that. I'm getting lazy in my retirement years so I don't move the girls around to catch the sun like I did 10 years ago, and some of my trees have grown (and some have fallen), but I probably get a reliable 8 hours of direct sunlight a day at this time of year. Probably 9am to 5pm. When I used to use 5 gallon pots I could move plants to a corner of my yard and catch a couple extra hours - starting maybe 7am (_IF_ there is no morning fog). Afternoon sun is more reliable because of morning fog so as the plants get larger I just leave them in their afternoon positions. Or maybe sativa's just like me. I sure like them. 😎

Hey I've never grown outdoors, but upping the water intake sounds like a good plan. I would def keep a close eye on them. @dalemac, Washing - I'm interested in this... If you have a minute could you explain the process so if I either want to or need to I won't mess it up. What's the difference you noticed besides bugs & other unwanted things on there like the tree pollen being removed? Taste better etc?
dalemac
dalemaccommented4 years ago
@@@Sonoma_Sungrown, hehe.., that was at least 4 cents worth... and well said. I'm not surprised large scale growers don't wash their buds... but in some cases it may be related to how much testing is done on the buds before they can be sold in whatever market they are intended for. We are the connoisseurs who grow stuff in our backyard - like grapes into wine - just better... because it's on a small enough scale to pay attention to details about how much crap falls on each individual plant out of the sky. Details...details... hehe... where's the love in it? 😎 Damned appreciative that the local air quality has returned to normal after a week in the "unhealthy" range. EDIT >> Something I forgot to add that I wanted to mention... When I washed Jack it was the first time I cleaned out bucket #1 half way thru and refilled it. My first stage is just plain water with a little baking soda thrown in (because the normal pH of my tap water is over 9.0)... but there was WAY more junk coming off in that first pass than the 2nd stage (lemon juice and Hydrogen peroxide). My rinse bin had about a dozen small caterpillar victims but not much else.
Sonoma_Sungrown
Sonoma_Sungrowncommented4 years ago
@dalemac, totally. My wash bins have been DISGUSTING. I also have a redwood above my garden, so I feel your pain on that front, as well! On a related note, i keep seeing pro (and home) growers here in north bay up to the triangle using leaf blowers on their plants... but not taking any steps to wash. I've been using a blower on mine for the past month, and I can SOUNDLY say that it isn't doing shit for cleaning of trichs. Funny thing is, every home grower i tell/show about washing buds is resistant to the idea. The standard response has been "i don't see the pros doing it..." If I had 500 outdoor plants, I might be resistant due to extra labor involved (though it doesn't take that much at all)... but you sure as hell won't see me smoking commercial outdoor anymore not that I've seen how much crap comes off of them. I've point-blank ASKED a few growers (who are posting images/videos of their crops covered in ash) if they plan on washing their buds. They don't even bother to respond. I'm not going to say they are being negligent... but it might be edging on it. If this were ConAgra or Monsanto not washing produce in times like this, you can be sure that those same people would be kicking and screaming. My 2 cents. Off my soapbox now.
