So this week saw the first sign of trichomes appearing on the plant, and also the first signs of deficiency. The mottled brown patches were appearing on the newer growth at the top of the canopy. I've been filtering my tap water, so there's a good chance that Calcium / Magnesium has been lacking, especially since I'm growing in Coco. I've started adding a small shot of CalMag to every other feed. I've also introduced the PK 13/14 sooner than I hoped, but hopefully this should put any deficiency at ease. Despite the deficiency, growth has been very solid this week. Colas are forming and growing, getting nice and fat. I did a fairly heavy defoliation and stripped off some lower branches that were getting very little light. Still not much of a smell to talk about. There is definitely a citrus fragrance, kind of like how your fingers smell after peeling an orange is the best way I can describe it. Buds are super sticky to touch. Temperature has been a lot lower this week, and I think they have been enjoying the cooler environment. Average daytime temps around 21C, with low / high around 16C / 26C. So much less stressful when the climate is on your side!

Grow Questions

Since getting a better light, runoff EC has been dropping steadily, and is now LOWER than input (~ -75 micros below). Not just an anomaly, this has been every feed for 3 days and is predictable. Could my plants be asking for more food in response to the growth from the new light?

If your in veg a simple way to know your girls want more is to look at the stems of your leaves. If it isn't an genetically purple plant then those stems on your leaves should be green. When they start getting red or purple then they are asking for more. This only applies to while their in veg mode. Cheers

Autoflower started showing sign of deficiency at week 8. Assuming CalMag, as I filter my water and affected area is new growth at top of plant (see pic). 1) Can someone confirm CalMag deficiency or something else? 2) Should I remove affected leaves or leave them be? Thanks

Any time you chop anything from your girls you create a little stress, but they recover. That would be your decision.,if it was near the bottom or middle I would pull it but seeing it's at the top I myself would leave it for a while. Now I cant tell how you feed, so I dont know if it's a deficiency or its lockout happening stopping her from taking the elements up. If your not using a tds reader and ph meter and your feeding by the nute label I would suspect lockout, if your following their advice. It could also be a ph issue if your not using a ph tester. Does look like a p and k issue. You need to find out what your runoff ph and tds are. If you haven't a meter I suggest you get one quick, or do a flush to wash out the old nutes and in with the new. Cheers friend

@GWSD82, Yeh, I'm the same and being at home has allowed me to have more control over shit and adjust if need be!! 😊. I'm liking the whole Coco thing too and the fact that you can't really over water and no pests is a huge positive for me, like you say we have to water more but I'm cool with that to be honest!! It's almost like a gentle flushing a lot of the time during growth...... For the future grow check out 'growell.co.uk' for the Canna Coco Plus bags....very good value!! All the best buddy 👍😉

@Bushbaby808, Yeah, I'm determined to be patient :) I'm sure I'll be dipping into it a little once it's dried for a bit of taste, but then it's into the jars with boveda packs for another few weeks at least. I think I paid £26 for a 50l bag of Ecothrive Coco/Perlite 70/30 mix (admittedly that did include £6.50 shipping), so it's not a vast expense, I just thought it would be nice to re-use it...... I'll use it again for my next grow, but will probably stick with fresh after that, it's worth the price to skip the hassle. Will definitely be sticking to coco though. It was lot of effort when I was fertigating 4-5 times a day in the hot weather, but damn, it's impressive stuff. Will definitely be investigating in some form of auto-irrigation / self-draining system, because dealing with run-off and constantly having to make up new batches of nutrient solution is fairly time consuming. It's not been so bad since lock down as I'm working from home, so I can keep up with that many feedings per day, but at some point soon, I'll have to go back into work, so I need to have something automated.

@GWSD82, Remember to allow them to dry out properly buddy, I messed up on my 1st grow because I didn't give them enough time and that can ruin perfectly good buds during the cure!! 100% waiting for some snap this time round!! 👍 I'm surprised your re using your Coco, that must of been grief man.....I can pick up a 50L bag of Coco Plus for about £12 so I'll be using fresh stuff on every grow!! 😊

Lovely stuff buddy and I should really of found your grow a while back!! Cracking looking buds and you're in for some goodness there 🌿😉 I too grow with Canna nutrients and Coco and wondered whether to flush plain or with Zym and Boost and because I'm only growing 1 I'll continue with the additives this time...... Be good to seeing if there's any difference between the 2 for yourself? Happy harvest 🌞

@Bushbaby808, thanks man! First time, so I had no idea what to expect, and it's looking much better than I could have hoped for. Can't wait for a taste, the drying stage is going to seem like forever! I can't see any harm in flushing just with zym and a little boost. If flushing does have any benefits, I think they are less relevant for coco than they are for soil. Certainly the zym will help keep the coco in good shape to be re-buffered and used again. Coco is fairly expensive (relative to soil at least) so it's worth keeping it for the next grow. I'm certainly interested to see if there is any difference in the quality / flavour of the smoke between flushed and unflushed. Going to see the weekend out, then give them the chop on Monday. Super excited! Cheers!

@GWSD82, your seed dyeing would have been from damping off. Young seedings are susceptible especially if their to wet. Great way to assure of no damping is to sprinkle a little cinnamon on the soils and water in...hope this helps for future babies...Cheers

Wow, that's harsh. I feel for you! The other seed of my 3 is definitely dead. When I dug it up, the taproot had come out about 1/2 cm and then just stopped. Possibly my fault, may have made it too wet perhaps? I have some more seeds, but I don't think I'm going to replace the one I lost this time round. Looking at some diaries of this strain, it looks like they can get pretty big, and in the space I have, I think 3 of these would have been a bit too much anyway, so I'm happy that 2 are healthy and looking well, I can focus my attention on them.

@LeafTucker, ah, such is life! Mad props to the winners though, they all looked good :) I've still got plenty of my harvest to keep me going, and just started my second grow. Started growing more as a side hobby just to get some nice free weed.... but, it's er, kinda taken over a whole room of my house... the wife doesn't seem to mind as much now she's sampled what we grew at home compared to the stuff we used to have to pay £180 an ounce for from the shadiest guy in the shadiest part of town. Happy days, my man :)

47 ounces from 2 indoor plants in that time? Is that even close to possible? Lol
GWSD82
GWSD82commented4 years ago
@JBgrowing, fresh wet weight, yes :) I'm hoping for a dry return of 6oz once all dried and trimmed, which I hope should be realistic? Not sure how much weight gets lost in the drying process.

Great harvest, 20% yield from we to dry is pretty constant, depends on the size of the stems and other growth weighed prior to drying, overall I think you have nailed it, my friend!

When I switch to flower I go from the veg nutes being at the ppm your running now 1.9 to flower nutes starting at 1.2 ec for early flower, I watch for deficiencies and I increase next feed to 1.4 a week later. Then If their still yellowing I increase to 1.6ec. I only feed once per week as I am not growing in coco, just nutramix hp is all I use so it is the first 3 weeks of actual flower that I increased to 1.6. This is what I follow. 1.2 to 1.4 for early flower, 1.6 to 1.8 for mid flower and back to 1.2 for late flower. When your girls use up their nutes, that is good, you always replace. 1.9 ec ismto high for this stage of growth. I would cut it back a little to maybe 1.4 for the next 2 weeks. Weed needs very little nutes to thrive,,overboard will reduce your harvest. My diary is pretty up to date on what I have fed and what the ppm and tds is and was going in and coming out. Cheers friend, hope things improve for you.

Should note that distance from plants to light is 60cm, not 60 inches. Not sure if I can edit that....
