06/07: The plants have grown a lot since last week. At about midweek I started watering the them twice a day, but the algae is getting a bit worse, so I am going back to watering once a day in the morning. 06/09: As soon as I switched to one watering a day the EC levels shot up. It seems like they were preferring the two waterings per day. I'm going to have to switch back again. Luckily the plants have gotten big enough to keep light from reaching the algae, so it's beginning to die off. 06/10: Alexis’s EC levels are not dropping, so I flushed the coco with about 900mL of nutrient water at 900μS. The levels dropped from the previous days levels of about 2300μS to about 1600μS, which is still too high, but it’s getting better. 06/11: Alexis’s runoff levels are now at around 1350μS. I need to make sure I get them back to normal before she gets any nutrient burns. On a side note, I believe Annie is going to start flowering soon. Her smell is getting stronger. 06/12: After watering Alexis in the morning I noticed two small worms in the runoff. By the afternoon I found a gnat in the tent. Luckily I noticed it on the first plant, so I held off on watering the other two. I’m gonna pull back on the watering. The EC levels are definitely going up, but I can’t let the infestation worsen. 06/13: The hot temperatures are causing the coco to dry up pretty fast, so I decided to water again. I wanted to take care of the pest problem before it gets out of hand. I read on the Med-Tek Nutrients site that a wash of a spinosad is good for killing the larvae in coco and has very low toxicity to plants and humans. I initially wanted to avoid using any pesticides in my grow, but I wanted to take care of the problem as quick and easy as possible and since they’re still not producing any buds, I’m not too worried. They recommended Monterey Garden Insect Spray. Unfortunately I was unable to find some at my local hardware store, so I went with Bonide’s Insecticidal Soap which has a similar spinosad percentage, and as a plus, is supposed to be organic. I used a solution of 15mL to the gallon of water with a pH of 5.81 and with no nutrients. The soap also contains potassium as an active ingredient, but I’m not worried about an overload since it’s been some time since the last watering compared to what they’re used to. I skipped two watering for the 5-gallon pots and one for the 3-gallon, which was the last plant I watered and where I noticed the pests. 1500mL for Annie, 1800mL for Aaliyah (she’s closer to the fan, therefore dries up faster) and 900mL for Alexis (3-gallon). I found a few more larvae in the runoff of each plant, but it was only a total of about six or seven, so I think I may have caught the problem early. I’m sure there will be more in the next watering, but hopefully only dead ones. I found one dead fly in the tent, but no living ones. All I did was the wash, but I’ve decided to put up some yellowing sticky paper in the tent to help me keep an eye on things. I removed all ties used for bending to keep the plants as stress free as possible, increased the air flow in the tent, and tuned off the lights. Hopefully this will end the problem. End of Week: It’s the end of week six and I’m still struggling with watering. The main problem is that as the ladies are having a lot of growth, so as I try to adjust intake amount, they start taking in more making it difficult to pinpoint the exact amount they need. I noticed some pest problems on the 12th. I gave a wash with insecticidal soap containing spinosad. I caught the problem pretty early on, so hopefully this is the end of it. Plants are probably going to enter flowering this upcoming week.

If I start three auto seeds of the same strain, is it expected that all three will be ready for harvest at the same time? My plants look fairly healthy, but it seems as if they are growing at different speeds. This was noted before the transfer to their final pot. Thanks.

Yes they should all finish around the same time! Think of them like triplets and one of them just happened to get a stronger gene! Cheers and Happy Growing!

If the EC levels of the runoff are consistently lower than what I'm putting in, do I need to raise the EC levels? I've read that this means my plants are feeding well and can do with more, but I wanted to make sure first. Thanks.

Hello.. Hope you are well.. If the pH is same in run off aswell then she is feeding great and no need to change anything.. If they are nice and healthy then u dont want to push them to much.. Adding mire will obviously raise ur runoff but why wud u want a higher run off.. If they look like they need more then raise ur feed very slightly n dont forget to check ph b4 watering.. Ur plants look nice and healthy in my eyes tbh, maybe give them 18-20hrs light period so she has chance to rest?.. Stay safe n gud luck with your grow.. 👍🍀

Hi man, hope you're well? Is this happening on all plants? I am no expert as we are all still learning. The learning is the best part I think. From the look of the leaves it could be a magnesium or sulphur deficiency. Easily sorted. But some Epsom salts and dissolve about quarter a tsp in 500ml of water. Use as a foliar spray. Helps with nutrient uptake too. Epsom salt are basically magnesium sulphate. I hope this help, if not sorry for talking shite... ✌️

Hello everyone. I found two tiny worms in the runoff of one of my plants in coco coir. My first thought was gnats, but there’s no dark end. I also read it could be springtails. EC levels in runoff are a little high, but pH is good and the plants looks better than ever. Thanks!

Root maggots are the larvae of fungus gnats. Fungus gnats resemble tiny flies. They lay their eggs in wet soil, and will appear in cases when the top layer of soil is wet for too long. The root maggots that result will look like tiny white worms. Hope this helps! Happy growing!👊

Hello growers! I have three plants that are currently in their stretch and are getting too wide for the tent. If I were to slightly bend some of the cola branches towards the center to try and make the plant a bit more compact, would this hurt them in any way? Thanks in advance.

It would reduce the amount of light that gets to your lower bud sites. The plant should train it's self if it gets to the edge and will just start growing up anyway. I'd just let them grow! 🤟😜

Hello growers! Some of the lower branches on my ladies are starting to grow into the light and are developing, but the top is close to being ready. I know it’s possible with a regular plant, but is it possible to harvest an auto flowering plant in parts without killing it? Thanks

Hello You can partial harvest an autoflower just the same as you would a photoperiod plant. Just have the same caution as you would with the photo plant, be mindful of where you cut, protecting the cut areas so that they don't get any contaminants inside the stems...etc. Happy trimming.

Great journal! I'm a few weeks behind you with my ILGM AH and BB. Just started my week 4. They're battling the heat and low humidity, but so far the plants are doing well. I'm still trying to figure out my watering schedule and amounts (I've waited 4 days btw each watering schedule ~210mL pH'd water @ 6.3, with MegaCrop nutes). Just wanted to chime in here and say thanks for documenting since I can learn from other growers, including from you.

@@jcbud, Seriously. I’m glad I found the site. I’ve learned a lot as well. It is pretty weird, but it helps a little bit. I’ve read through the page and checked out the forums. It seems like my best option would be to increase the amount of water given each time. I’m thinking about 800mL, twice a day. It’s a lot, but it’ll help keep the salt build up in the roots to a minimum. It is a huge difference between the soil grow. It’s a shame we can’t really compare, but at least we’ll learn about watering different growing mediums in case we ever decide to try something different. Oh nice! I got some seeds from Seedsman. OG Kush and Lemon (fem and auto) and I got some free Bubba Kush, which I believe is photo fem. I’m thinking of doing two OG and two Blueberry next. I’m looking forward to seeing the colors on the Blueberry. Thanks again for sharing notes. Hopefully everything goes smoothly from now on.

@AGrowerNotAShower, cheers! I'm thankful for GD and the ability to search for others' journals and see the progress. Definitely learning a ton. Your wet towel method seems interesting...I might try that too!. Regarding watering, I unfortunately am using FFOF soil as my grow medium so I don't have anything to help with coco and your observations. Have you perused through Cocoforcannabis.com and the forums there? https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/principles-fertigation-feed-water-cannabis-coco/. I find it interesting that with my 3 gal soil grow, and with me only watering today 230 mL of pH'd 6.2 RO water + MegaCrop, the water volume differential between the soil vs coco is quite large. I'm still trying to figure out my watering volumes as well since I feel like 210 mL was too little before but the plants did well for 7 days! I increased my volume today to 230 mL so we'll see how that goes with my medium. I also got the Auto Mixpack! I had a tough time debating btw the BB and NL, but I thought it would be nice to grow the BB for the flower and color. My next grow after my current ILGM AH & BB will probably be my Mephisto Genetics seeds that I got from 4/20. Keep it up!

@@jcbud, Thanks! I’ve read through many great diaries (including yours) and gathered a lot of info, so I’m just trying to to do my part and share as well. Hopefully it can help others. I had the same issue with humidity levels. Hanging up some wet towels in the grow room helps a bit. I ended up having to buy a small humidifier, but even then I couldn’t get it past 50%. It’ll start to increase once the plants grow bigger and start taking in more water. For my grow I’m using a 70/30 mixture of coco coir and perlite using General Hydroponics CaliMagic and Flora Trio. I was giving them about 1000mL for the 5-gallon plants and 750mL for the 3-gallon with about a 20% runoff, and following the feeding schedule on the website Coco For Cannabis. They were doing fine until I tried to switch from twice a day to once a day, which they did not like. I switched back to two waterings, but they had already been thrown off. I had to flush the 3-gallon plant today because the EC in the coco was more than double what I was putting in. It seems strange giving so much water, but the plants are doing better this way. Hopefully the EC will level out. I bought the Auto pack from ILGM, so my next grow will probably be the Blueberry. I’m gonna continue learning from your grow. Thanks for commenting and happy growing! May we have great yields.

Looking great! I'm around week 2 of flowering and tons of budsites on my plant as well. My ILGM AH plant is much shorter than my ILGM blueberry though. not sure why.

@@jcbud, Thanks and likewise! Let’s hope we get some huge buds. Yeah, I now know that a 5-gallon grow with coco might be too big for my set up. I did alright with training one of my 5-gallons, but the other one is getting too tall. It’s 2” away from my light. I’m definitely doing my next grow with 3-gallon pots.

Your AH is growing very similar to mine. I never dreamed it would get so large. I am glad I only have a single plant as she is taking up my entire grow space. I just wish I could raise my lights (I am maxed out) ,she just keeps stretching. Best of luck on the rest of your grow!
AGrowerNotAShower
AGrowerNotAShowercommented4 years ago
@sn1ck3rz, Hey! I have three and they’re taking up all the space in my tent. Luckily the branches are following the light, so they stopped growing wide, but the vertical stretch is incredible! I had my light on a ratchet and I had to take it off and hang my light on one of the tents crossbars, so I’m maxed out as well. And even then my tallest plant is only about four inches away from the light. It’s amazing, but a bit worrying. I’m looking forward to harvest! Thanks and good luck with your grow as well.
