Kicking off another grow, and quite a bit to be excited about!
I've implemented quite a few changes to try this time around, almost all of them coming from the great group over at Cocoforcannabis.com so thanks to them! A quick summary of the major changes:
1. Implemented light seed scuffing before submerging in water.
2. Implemented seedling mat to help with germination temperature.
3. After a day or so in paper towel, I now transplant the young sprouts into Jiffy Pellets.
4. Attempting to implement a transplant strategy for all but a couple of these, even though these are autos. Going from Jiffy pellets, to one pint fabric seedling bags, to one gallon fabric tear away pots, and then into final 4 gal air pot containers. I'm looking forward to comparing the plants transplanted versus not.
5. Starting the seedlings in a 2x2 tent with a t5 light instead of a high-powered LED.
6. Built an automatic watering system, self-draining pot saucers, and a reservoir container. The plan is to make my life easier and implement a high frequency fertigation strategy for watering.
7.
like I said a lot new going on in this grow, but I feel like I'm getting closer to a final setup and strategy. Hopefully at the end of all of this I'll be able to endorse most if not all of these changes!
So far, so good. EC run-off consistently ~100 higher than nutrient solution. Still using a big 160ml syringe to fertigate 2x daily, 480 ml each plant.
Plants up to 40,000 lux exposure.
Will start taking pictures with veg light off and camera flash.
Moved the plants to their final 3.6 gal Smart Pots at the outside of week 4. Also now using self-watering system fully. I'm starting with three daily fertigations of 1:20 each with 7 hours between each event. Will start low-stress training now as well.
I've read a lot about potential transplant shock especially when dealing with autoflowers. The first photographs this week we're all taken 12 hours post-transplant. These plants have been transplanted twice in their first 4 weeks, and I have to say I just don't see any issues. Each time within 12 hours of xplant, the plants have perked up and responded well.
Things seem to be going good! I used the weekend to reposition the water main to the side of the tent allowing me to better utilize the light footprint. Doing this allowed me to recenter and remove one of the lights I was using. Introduced small amount of Kool Bloom and more FloraBloom as I have backed off the Cal mag and FloraGro. At end of week 6, all plants between 19 and 24 inches
Things continue to go really well! I couldn't be more impressed with the information and strategies I have adopted from the Coco for Cannabis community. While a lot has to do with experience of past grows, this time I do have the largest plants I've ever had with a lot of healthy traits. (Largest plant is at 30" with the average of the others around 25" tall; diameter of top 1/3 of each plant around 27". )
One thing that has gotten harder is taking photographs of individual plants. They've all sort of combined to create a single canopy covering the entire tent. if anybody has any tips on that, let me know, otherwise I think the next good individual pictures will be on harvest day.
as I mentioned in my previous diary, I wanted to do a better job with defoliation which I have this time around. Here at 50 days from the time the seeds went into the glass of water, I've done some lollipopping to improve air circulation and allow growth to be focused on the canopy.
I've implemented a lot of changes in my strategies over a short period of time, especially in this grow with automatic watering and draining system. But if I had to say the single tool that might have provided the biggest value to me this time around has been my cheap LUX meter. Being able to get a general idea of the distance to hang the lights away from the canopy, has really made a huge difference. I'm noticing earlier trichome creation on the proto-buds that I feel is partly due to them being in the Goldilocks zone within my tent... although it assuredly is due to a combination of improvements.
Things continue to go pretty well. All of these plants are still weeks away from being finished as vegetative growth continued through 7 weeks. I've decided that next time I need to incorporate a SCRoG net as the continued growth of some of these plants have left my canopy an uneven mess.
On the bright side, flowering is now in high gear with trichomes appearing in good numbers and the smell of the tent getting serious.
These nutrients in these quantities put me at 1,300 EC using RO water. Delivering this now 4 times daily with each plant getting 1/4 gallon per feeding. 20% run-off each time.
Things are going really well as the buds continue to mature. It seems like I still have a fair amount of clear and cloudy trichomes, but I do see some signs of a few translucent amber as well. Thinking I'll begin to flush now for five or six days and then harvest. What do you all think?
Those Extreme Impact trichomes are crazy long. I'm so excited for that one. The girl Scout cookies might be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my tent!
The Girl Scout Cookies were ready to come down, so they were the first to leave the tent (85 days from when I dropped them in water.) The two plants filled up three levels of my drying rack bag. They have been in there for almost 4 days now at roughly 55% humidity and 65° with light air circulation. Once I can put them inside jars and have the RH stay below 70, they will stay there where I will begin a burping regimen to slowly bring them down to 63 RH over the course of a month or two. I will update the final weight once they are in the jars.
The Bruce Banner, Extreme Impact, and Auto Amnesia are getting an extra week or two to ripen. Once the Girl Scout Cookies came down, the size of the auto amnesia really became apparent with pretty huge buds everywhere. I definitely didn't handle my tent space very good this run, but the Auto Amnesia seems to have liked the jungle atmosphere. The Extreme Impact got covered up quite a bit, and it's stature was always a little bit shorter. However, it's buds might be the thickest/densest upon inspection, I'm looking forward to it!
The Bruce Banner looks great, again I ended up with more larfy buds than I wanted, but I can utilize those for bubble hash. This strain was easy to grow in the yields look promising. I will update dry weight once I have that.
These Auto Amnesia plants from Seedsman are pretty amazing. They did not get as much attention being in the back of the tent, but they still outgrew my 4x8 with both plants around 4 ft tall and above my lights. They only got a little initial LST so this was a training failure on my part, but wow! Dense buds and lots of colas. A+++
The Extreme Impact plants were notable for their short compact stature. My training deficiencies resulted in fewer colas than I would have wanted, but they are all extremely dense. Thank you Lineage Genetics!
Started my flower around the same age of your plants thay look awesome i can see mine are going to grow into each other as well. I see some guys put a plat tag where they top there plant or right above to distiguish one from another hope that seeds some ideas for u keep in touch nice grow check me out xspellsx
Pistols appearing as they are flipping to flower! So far things are going pretty well. One drawback of my current auto watering system is that main line runs down the middle of the tent, and as a consequence, I've lost valuable light footprint area directly underneath the lights.
Next time, I will probably make some modifications so that the water main runs down the side of the tent with longer manifolds allowing more efficient plant positioning.
