So sadly tragedy struck this week. The largest plant in the tent Hermied and I missed it. It completely pollinated itself and parts of 2 of the other girls. Ripped that dude wannabe out and made hash.
This has left a gaping hole in our grow room and our hearts. On the other hand shit happens and it could have been worse. I don’t think the collateral damage is that bad.
No new pics yet.
I have one of these seedlings showing wrinkled and droopy leaves. Was guessing light or wind burn and adjusted accordingly. Ph 6.1 temp 76 and humidity at 60%. Ec 500 or so with some hard water. Any opinions on what might be causing this?
So let’s talk about this grow and what we learned
Hermies: No they aren’t like unicorns, Sasquatch, or the Loch Ness monster. Unlike those other things hermies are real, and you should treat them seriously like a dry cough and inability to smell, not casually like you would treat a report of goblins in your neighborhood. In any case they can be sneaky bastards. I’ll be more careful to watch for them next time.
Lights: My wife convinced me they were too close. My argument was the lux readings at their most intense spot on the canopy never got past about 60k. Her argument is 2 plants foxtailed and one hermied. Observation trumps theory. She wins. The lights stay higher next time.
Salts: it’s now 2 grows in a row where there appears to have been salt build up in the medium. I can take a hint. Next grow we allow for a day or two of pure water somewhere towards the end of veg, and in general do things to keep that build up in line. Which leads to our next issue....
Too much TDS: our tap water is running around 300 tds which is pretty high. That might be contributing to the buildup above. Debating whether to introduce RO water.
Scrogging: good rule of thumb is don’t bring a gun to a knife fight, wait I mean the opposite. Definitely bring a gun to a knife fight. Hell bring 2. My sissy netting was laughed at by the plant this cycle. The next scrogging apparatus is going to be bad ass tough. May even make it out of barbed wire. That’ll show em.
Rescues can work: The plant with the large bud next to the root beer can was supposed to die an early death. We sprouted 6 seeds, but only planned to grow the best 4. My wife wouldn’t let the fifth one go so she kept it in a Dixie cup for 3 weeks in soil. When one of the “better” plants clearly wasn’t going to make it she rinsed the roots off thoroughly and dropped it in some hydroton. That thing actually took off to the point it had a bud that looked good next to a soda can. Miracles can happen. While this was a nice surprise it feels like a waste of my miracle.
And a review of the strains...
Juicy fruit - really happy with this one. Buds really do smell fruity and you get a hint of it in the smoke now and then. Also a really nice pleasant high, and pretty buds.
Critical Kali mist - this stuff is powerful and a nice energetic high, although not as nice as the juicy fruit. I’m a little disappointed in the taste. It’s kind of earthy and a bit chemically. It isn’t the joy to smoke that the juicy fruit is. Makes great butter though.
