I'm growing a free seed received from Sensi seed Bank for a bit of a fun - and this is the first attempt at growing. No idea how large this would get, or how stinky, so bit of a trial run, before I try the Northern Lights seeds I purchased from Sensi.
I bought 30litre fabric pots as I didn't want to transfer once the plant started getting established. Lights were set to 10 on &14 off for the first week.
The seedling germinated and was planted on 11th June, and broke through the soil on the 13th. 1st photo was taken on the 14th and 2nd on the 17th.
So week 2 feels like it's off to a good start. On day 8, I gave it the first feed of Canna Terra Vega, and things are looking healthy. Feeling chuffed.
Week 3 and I've had some marks coming out on the leaves... 😐 Not sure if this is genetic or heat related, or a PH issue. Got my magnifying glass out and there's no sign of pests.
I thought it was getting tall enough so I could try LST (I've not tried it before) - and I think I damaged the stem a bit. Not so happy with myself, but seeing how things go.
2nd feed of Terra Vega, and growth is continuing, so fingers crossed.
Week 4 and flowers are starting to appear - yay!
The leaf issue doesn't seem so pronounced but it's still there. Had a nice growth spurt, so I don't think the damage to the stem has had too much impact. It's been very warm, with days temps reaching 30c+ so the temp in the tent has been higher than I would have wanted. Really should invest in an air conditioner...
3rd dose of Terra Vega.
Week 5 - Feeling like this might turn out OK!
I'm liking the bud sites, and the leaves are looking healthier. I've been trying to space out the branches a bit more with some rubber coated garden wire so they get max light. I debated putting a scrog net over, but don't think it needs this yet. With the LST it hasn't grown so much in height, but it has got bushy.
Gave it a 4th and final feed of Terra Vega, and next week will start the Terra Flores.
Week 6 and I've counted 40+ flowers 😊
I've noticed some of the leaf tips have started to yellow slighlty, and some of the older fan leaves have been removed. I'd say it was generally healthy, no pests, and the temps have cooled off a bit.
The seed packet said this would be 70days to harvest, and end of week 6 is 42 days, so excited to see how the next 3 weeks turn out.
1st feed of Terra Flores made all the top leaves start pointing sharply upwards which worried me, but they settled back down after a day. I've been measuring out the dosage with a syringe so was pretty sure I'd got the dose right.
End of week 7 and it's been a warm week - today is day 49 of the grow, and yesterday we had the 3rd hottest day on record in the UK - not ideal for keeping the temps in the tent under control, but I think I got away with it.
Last week the leaf tips started to brown, and it looked like I had a case of nutrient burn - I was a bit miffed with this because I've been anal on measuring the nutrients dosage with a syringe, and I was pretty sure I wasn't overdoing it, so I've flushed the soil, and will do a final feed next week. Still debating if I should stretch out the plant in a net, but at the moment the light is getting pretty well distributed without it. Trimmed a few fan leaves this week, and as it's payday, treated myself to a trim bin & a new pair of Fiskars.
At the start of the week there were just a few pistils turning orange, and by the end of the week there were loads turning. Also this week, I started to notice the smell more. Previously it's barely registered as a weed smell, but it's definitely more pronounced.
The Paradise seeds pack said 70days, so estimated 20 more days to harvest... For a free seed and just a bit of a fun during lockdown, I'm rather looking forward to it. 😁
These photo's were taken on day 53. Week 8 has been hot and humid... myself and the Vertigo have not enjoyed it. I was away for a few days, and returned to find a very thirsty plant, but a good drink later and it's all good.
I tied down some of the other branches to help light spread, and took off more of the older fan leaves. After the nutrient burn from the last week, I decided to give it one last final feed before harvest estimated in about 14 days. For the next 2 weekly diaries I'll make more an effort to take more photo's and finish with a flourish!
This is the end of week 9 (technically into week 10 on day 64). Had some more hot days at the beginning of the week, but the last four days has been cooler and the temps have been down to about 26degrees in the tent.
I've attempted to take some photo's through a jewellers magnifying glass - which had mixed results. But I can see milky trichromes on the bigger kolas, some turning amber, while some of the smaller buds are still clear. No nutrient feed this week, and I've trimmed a few more fan leaves to improve light spread - apart from the burn to the tips experienced previously, it's looking healthy and no pest issues - in fact I don't think I've had any for the entire grow.
Lights were reduced this week to 12/12 on day 57, and will continue for the next three days, before turning off completely for two days of darkness, and harvest is planned for Saturday 22nd August.
