Hello all, this is my 2nd indoor grow and my first attempt with autoflowers. I'm using amended soil, (promix, cow manure, worm castings, organic compost, perlite and vermiculite) in 4 gal cloth pots. Germinated 4 Bruce Banner #3 autoflowers, using wet paper towel method, all 4 cracked. Seedlings are under a 3 bulb t-5 HO fixture for two weeks in small pots. will transplant into 4 gallon pots at end of second week. So far 3 out of four look great, the four one is a little bit stunted.
All 4 have made it to week 2. Three of the four look great, but there is one that's a little stunted, but the stock is solid, leaves look a little weird though. Just water so far ,will start fertilizer on day 15. Light is 18 inches at 100 watts, will be turning it up in the next couple of days. LST in week 3.
At day 15 started adding nutrients at 25% strength for 3 days, then up to 50% strength for rest of week. Growing well but not very tall. bout 5 inches. Will be low stress training (90 degrees over) on day 21. Have listed ferts as General hydroponics but cannot get any maxi-bloom, so i will mimic its NPK (5-15-14) for full grow adding more bloom ferts as the plants get bigger or as (necessary). we will see.
Week 4 is finished, plants are very short still but quite bushy. Going to defoliate in the next couple of days, bud sites are covered. Getting full strength fertilizer at ph of 6.2 LED light at 280 watts 20 inches.
Everything is going well.so far. Did a major defoliation on day 30, by day 35 it was all back and more. LED light is now at full strength (280 Watts) Lots of flowers showing on plants. I going to state the obvious, four auto flowers in a 32 by 32 is really cramped and probably too many. Giving full strength fertilizer in about 5 solo cups of P.H. 6.2 water every other day per plant (4). Basically i am watering through till water is in the bottom trays. So far I can say this about my first try with autoflowers is that, transplanting them as seedlings is no problem at all, they grow damn fast, and require lots of defoliation just to keep the bud sites exposed, and take a lot more watering than i thought they would, and finally i am hitting them with quite a bit of 5-15-14 fertilizer and they are responding very nicely.👍
End of week 6 and all is well. Giving full watering every 2 days (5 solo cups each) Plants are 16 inches high and flowering nicely. Again, too much plant for the space as these could really be spread open if there was room. Due for one more major defoliation this coming week and will be changing humidity to 40% next week.
The banners are doing great, getting too big so i will be puting 2 in another tent, so now i will have 2 plants in each tent (2nd tent is going to be a vivosun 36 x 36 x 72 with a twin fusion board led light with 250 watts of power from growlights.ca) One plant in particular seems to be farther along than the (fading colour and larger buds, see pic) than the other 3. Interesting. Humidity is now at 40 % and full feeding every other day (5 solo cup each) with 3 weeks to go. Also a shout out to Dr Seeds for the bruce banner seeds, great service and awesome seeds.
End of week 8 and the plants are split into two tents. (2 in each tent) going great, buds are getting bigger and quite sticky. The odour is very strong now. One plant is starting to change colour, turning slightly yellow, all good. Did a final defoliation when they were put in separate tents. No more nutrients, will be just 6.2 ph water (every other day)
Week 9 is finished and the banners are looking really close to being done. Lots of milky trichomes and some amber ones as well. This is day 63 and I don't think were gonna make it to 70 days. Some pics are taken with I-Phone 8 and some with a Huawei, the latter are much better. Super stinky, and looking good. Not much else to add that I can think of.
👍Plants didn't make it to day 70, harvesting on day 67, Lot's of good bud and very smelly. Everything is hanging now so I will be back to finish the final report when they are dry and curing in jars.
OK i'm back with the dry harvest, I was very surprised (pleasantly) at the weight of the plants. All together I got 390 grams and its pretty good all around, (taste, smell, buzz, all good) and very sticky with a lot of trichomes. Quickly. what i've learned, autoflowers are NOT as delicate as there made out to be, they take LST and defoliation and transplanting quite well, and were not set back in there growth in any way when doing so. (as long as they are HEALTHY) treat them like regular plants for the first 6 weeks. No problem On my next run I will be defoliating much more as well as more LST and making sure they are fairly lollipopped by the last 3 weeks of flowering. Anyway thanks for checking out my grow diary. CHEERS !
