Day 21 Sorry this is my only update this week. Earlier this week I determined that the problem I've been seeing is nute burn. I began watering with regular water or with very little nutrients. Saw some awesome growth this week. Questions: Anyone have opinions on if it's stretching too much? As my first grow I want to throw it into flowering somewhat early to gain some experience for my next grow rapidly. Any opinions on when that should come?

at this point I'm in my first grow and open to any and every idea. you can consider this my new plan. just to clarify you mean to use straight water for a couple of weeks. I haven't heard of ponytail cutting. I was planning on doing a form of lollypopping. do you think this would be good or should I ponytail. if so please elaborate on what this entails
Jaindoh
Jaindoh
@Jubiedude, ponytailing is when you take the branches that are too tall, and a fuzzy pipe cleaner, and tie them into ponytails so that the growth goes into lower branches www.youtube.com/watch

hard to say but my guess beginning of magnesium deficiency if thats what it is its more likely pH being outside its range of absorption ("lockout") than actual mag def but might be that too check your pH of your nutes carefully and try testing your runoff http://www.growweedeasy.com/marijuana-symptoms

@Jubiedude, try using the drench just before the lights are scheduled to go off anyway. That way you don’t mess with the schedule
Jubiedude
Jubiedude
@Jaindoh, I've given it two treatments of a spider mites killer. Sadly I have to drench the leaves and turn the light off since I have an indoor grow
Jaindoh

@Jubiedude, haven't had them =/ anything id give you would be just quoting from the entry on that symptoms page anyways had a period a year ago where the internet was out but that symptom page was still loaded into ram, id just go over it while bored trying to memorize lol

Like @Jaindoh said, great advice, it would be better, and I would do it too, if it was my plant, to let it recover for a while longer. Maybe even top her once or twice in those 2-3-4 weeks and keep on training her to get her develop more tops, so you end up with more bud sites. I understand that it's your first grow and that you might be anxious and waiting to harvest, to start a new grow (growing can be pretty addictive) and to smoke some of your own, but you have space for her to grow, you have a great light, to me, it would be a shame to flip her now, NL can be a pretty great plant it will surly reward you if you have patience with her.
Jaindoh
Jaindoh
@Jubiedude, keep in mind, if you top her... its highly recommended to give a week to recover before flowering so your stretch and final yield go like you want should be worth it in your position

@Jubiedude, no problem ;) didn't have 'classic' LST in mind just to level the shoots and branches to make for a more even canopy so that they can soak up that monster light ;)

@bobo420, sorry about the mis-information. Had a lot of those settings from when I first got the plant. Found out that the strain is WiFi not NL. Also I hadn't planned on LST anymore but was going to top her soon.

only problem is at the beginning I cut two main branches at the bottom which I think may have committed myself to lollypopping instead of something like ponytailing which is somewhat the opposite

Looks like it's time for that transplant! Good vigor, she'll love the larger pot.

@Jaindoh, dope. I'm new to this too and will hopefully have pictures of the white dots for diagnosis

@Jubiedude, kind of figured you just had the cups sitting on top of the soil before transplanting, i had skimmed your entry XD im a big fan of coir since switching to it. you probably know as much as id tell you -- im no grandmaster -- but i tend to be in "learn one do one teach one" mode on this site, try to give advice so that i remember the basics better myself let us know if you do have any questions; if i cant answer them someone else can.

@Jaindoh, thanks for the advice. using Coco coir instead of soil to maximize aeration

Were it my plant, I would: continue on water (not even light nutes) until deficiency that wasn't just a pH lockout developed to eliminate salts, save what buffer your soil still has, and allow it to recover let it recover for two or three weeks and ponytail the top with pipe cleaners until the bottom branches were of equal vertical height and strong enough to be tied down as part of the LST and then flip

@Jaindoh, I think @jon_do is right and to add to it the plant is receiving too much water or at least too often. One of the benefits to coco or hydro isn’t the availability of nutes it’s the air to the roots helping the plant to get bushier. When a plant is stretching towards the light you’ll find long spaces in between the nodes yours are close together telling you that it’s not reaching for light but drowningbest of luck

@Jaindoh, good advice, totally agree ;)

A piece of advice, specially if you are growing in coco. an EC/PPM meter is a must, that will help a lot in preventing future nutrient burns. A pH pen will go a long way in keeping your grow healthy, since you don't have a soil that buffers you to the correct range.
Jaindoh
Jaindoh
@Jubiedude, your plant is looking great! don't forget about this pH meter -- plants get MUCH more sensitive to pH issues as flowering goes on. Even a $11-15 pH meter can make a huge difference.

@Jubiedude, I understand perfectly. It's difficult to get every tool we would like all at once.

Excellent improvement! You shouldn't need to start checking for trichomes to harvest for at least two weeks. As far as I can tell from the log and pictures, you have like 3+ weeks left. The anticipation will ease with time =)
Jubiedude
Jubiedude
@Jaindoh, might cut early just due to convenience. Also some leaves are already drying up and since I was going to have multiple plants the next time around.

looking ok, I'd say that you can lower that light a bit, she seems to be stretching a bit

@Jubiedude Would you leave a dead piece of skin on your body, or remove it ? 😆 Yes, dead leafs are not useful since they cannot absorb energy anymore. I'll be around, good luck with your next grow!

Nice growth this week, seems to be recovering well. As for the burned leaves, like advised - if they are burnt on the tops it's ok to leave them, if they're damaged more, like yours are, it's best to remove them to avoid future problems they may cause.

Going to hydro store tmr. Any good recommendations on what to buy. I was thinking a good blooming nutrient I could use for the next few weeks until I harvest.
