Soaked seed in paper towel and this seed (1 of 1) cracked in less than 24 hours with much vigor. NOTE: I counted day 1 as the day the seedling broke the surface of the grow pod medium, but in reality it took about 7 days from seed cracking, to transplanting to grow pod and then seedling sprouting. So you could add 7 to all of my day numbers to get "from seed to harvest" days.
Week 3 and the internodal distance is very tight. Plant is already showing pistils in crown shoot by day 20. Tried a little foliar feeding with a custom kelp blend, dilute foliar feeding product. Plant seemed to like it.
I feel like I've really been pounding the nutrients to this one because my last grow I felt I could have fed more. It seems like this strain is not as demanding and prefers lower TDS than other strains. Continued with foliar feeding randomly. This plant's structure is so tight and leafy, performed some slight LST on a few branches to open it up a little but this was very light training compared to previous grows. I wanted to see what this strain grows like for future knowledge. Also did some light defoliation to allow a bit more airflow through. pH kept at 5.7-6.0 this week.
Again - very bushy plant. Bud development is accelerating but at this point resin production is slow compared to other another Mephisto strain I've grown (Double Grape x 3 Bears OG). Very light LST continues (very minimal) and lots and lots of leaf tucking. pH has been kept at 5.7-6.0 and coupled with the light defoliation done last week, the plant showed signs of Ca deficiency this week. At this point I'm just monitoring.
Resin production continues to accelerate quickly. Evidence of calcium deficiency becomes more evident - probably from week 4 or 5 of veg and beyond. pH has been kept low at 5.7-6.0 throughout and did some defoliation which might have contributed to this problem. Did complete flush of reservoir and refilled with water adjusted to pH of 6.2 to maximize Ca uptake. Also added calcium and magnesium supplement to assist in resolving this issue. Also starting to back off the GHE Bloom nutrients slightly.
Plant continues to thrive. Resin production is unbelievable at this point - buds are becoming coated in trichomes. Heading toward flush time and by the middle of this week, have stopped adding any nutrients and continuing to add only pH adjusted water for final flush. At this point, the plant smells strongly of hash - I have not picked up on any fruity aromas from this strain at any point of flowering so far.
Plant is fading nicely. In retrospect, after looking at the trichomes more closely, I realized my timing may have been off here by about a week. I think I could have fed this one for another 5-7 days before flushing but once the flush started, she faded really fast and I felt I didn't have a choice even though there are still some clear trichomes (mostly opaque) and few amber trichomes (<2% estimated). Regardless, I have gotten to know this strain now and will know better what to expect for next time. I picked off a couple of the lower, fluffier buds and found that underneath they have a pinkish tinge to them. I guess that's why this is called Strawberry Nuggets...
This plant was harvested on day 72 and yielded about 384g wet weight as a whole plant (minus the roots and whatever leaf I trimmed off up to this point). The plant was hung as a whole in darkness at 72F and 50-60% RH for 24 hours. The next day, dead and crunchy leaves were removed and the plant was broken down into four pieces to allow greater air flow and temperature and relative humidity were maintained at 72-75F and 50-55%. I am on day 3 of drying at this point, but I will update this diary with final weight and comments in the coming days. I'm hoping for a 10 day dry to maintain the terpene profile as much as possible and stave off that autoflower "hay" smell I've found so common with autoflowers. I'll update more as there is more to post.
