This is a bit delayed but wanted to try and get the growing part right before adding more diarys, but seeing as we only have a limited amount of summer im gonna run all I can! 😁👍☀️
Started this plant on 1/16th nutrients, to be honest I know people have said DONT give any nutrients but I had much quicker results than the last plant with using a very light dose. Maybe thats due to my previous errors anyway so probably wasnt a fair test.
Again this was started before I found out about the fact that I did in fact have to pre soak the rockwool to 5.5 for a few days before using, I listened to advice to say you dont need to and left all my plants in PH fluctuating rockwool.
NEVER AGAIN! Couldnt do anything as they are set in the rockwool at that point.
Thanks for stopping by 👍
All good, this week started hardening off giving 30 mins/ 1hr/ 2 hrs/ 3hrs outside increasing each day.
End of week runoff values
EC IN 0.668
EC OUT 0.527
PH IN 5.55
PH OUT 7.9 (unbuffered rockwool just keeps sending ph up 👍😔)
All good tho.
Growth is good this week, had no issues with 1/2 strength so have moved up to 3/4 strength.
END OF WEEK RUNOFF
EC 0.7
Ec is constantly lower than im putting in and almost 1/2..im not sure why but seems like the coco might be using cal/mag before the plant and dropping the ec?
Will keep an eye but might have to increase cal-mag amounts each feeding.
Did some LST not the most bushy plant but I just wanted to open up some more areas to light. Seems to have worked well for lowest branches that wouldnt have seen much light otherwise.
Seeing as EC has been coming out so low each time I decided to up the cal-mag to total EC 0.8 before adding nutes so went back down to 1/4 strength to make room for cal-mag.
Did some LST (pretty late) and shape isnt really best for it but just wanted to open up an extra budsite on the lower branches, growing well though.
END OF WEEK RUNOFF
EC OUT 0.87
This week growth has been really good, just showed pistils so start of the flowering phase.
I had a feeling a while back that I had a calcium/magnesium issue so foliar fed and it got better, kept it at bay but think its now starting to become more of an issue. Being careful not to load it full of nutrients to sort but runoff EC and PH are fine.
RUNOFF PH 6.1
RUNOFF EC 0.945
Could I have just generally been under feeding or because I didnt start using the coco without enough cal-mag so was just being stolen by the coco.
Now using much more cal-mag and foliar feeding cal-may and superthrive 3x a week.
Good luck to you all 👊
Growth has been good this week, moved up from 1/4 strength to 1/2 strength nutrients now and moved on to week 1 of flowering nutes.
Still feeding 1.75ml/l cal-mag to try correct this low runoff issue and seems to have helped.
At 1/4 strength @ 1.16EC im getting 1.02EC out which seems fine.
- Top dress
This week I top dressed the coco with EcoCharge (worm castings and other beneficials) dressed with 60ml for 20L Pot.
- Nutrient strength
Went up to 1/2 strength nutrients and EC was 1.53 runoff EC was 1.054
The deficiencies have come back which is making me think it could be something else than magnesium. I might have been feeding too much cal/mag might have locked out other nutrients.
8 weeks 4 days -
Lower leaves are curling and browning tips and upper leaves are getting interveinal chlorosis, flushed with 20liters of ph 5.8 water and used 3/4 strength nutrients.
Instantly realised it could be a bad idea to go up to 3/4 strength to combat deficiency but my EC was lower than most diarys at this time so thought i had room. Will see how they react.
8 wks 5 days -
Doing more research im now thinking that giving so much calmag has caused a lockout of potassium and maybe others? PH and EC are in check so i cant see any other reason, following the schedule (as best as I can as its designed for photo-periods not autos so bit of trial and error)
Used a foliar spray of superthrive to try and help it along.
Feel like I have a potassium deficiency PH is 5.89 and EC is 1.35 so all looks fine.
Have been using a lot of cal-mag to try and correct lacking coco due to not buffering at start. 1.75ml/l is 0.8ec but maybe too much as recomended cal-mag dose is 1ml/l so will go back down to that. As cal/mag can cause sodium buildup which can stop plant uptaking potassium.
- Flush medium completely
- Reintroduce nutes at 1/2 strength but push forward 2 weeks on nutrient schedule for higher potassium.
Flushing with PH 5.57
(Orange sherbet) First EC RUNOFF - 1.18
Will flush until runoff is around 1/3 of starting EC
FINAL EC RUNOFF AFTER FLUSH - 0.39
-ORANGE SHERBET 1/2 STRENGTH (Pushed on to week 6 nutrient schedule)- 6 litres flished through
1ml/l calmag
1.5ml grow
1.5ml bloom
0.5ml top max
2ml heaven
1.5ml alg a mic
2ml acti vera
EC IN 1.735
EC OUT 0.35
PH IN 5.82
PH OUT 5.9
Steady, hasnt gotten better but hasnt gotten worse.
Noticed some slight burn on tips of leaves, moved nutrients down to 1/4 strength.
End of week runoff
EC IN 1.275
EC OUT 0.77
PH IN 5.7
PH OUT 5.94
Really struggling to understand where this is going wrong, unless my PH meter is just way off. Think the coco not being prepped at the start with calmag hasnt helped things and has been a bit od a chasing game ever since. (Kind of messing up the balance of nutrients as have been feeding much higher calmag)
Been following the schedule and checking EC each day. All seems fine but would appreciate somebody looking to see if they have an idea?
Have been feeding 1ml/l until mid week, noticed I could be locking potassium out using such a high EC of calmag at this stage of flowering.
Realised I am seeing so many different deficiencies, some look like potassium, some magnesium and some are beginning to yellow at the tips of leaves and work their way back to the base of leaf. I did post a question about this but havent heard back yet and my research hasnt gotten me to far. Decided best thing to do is flush and restart but using half strength calmag at 0.5ml/l and pushing on the schedule a week to add more bloom. Very tricky having to guess with this as the BioBizz schedule is meant for photoperiods so just following the same ratios but unable to keep exactly to schedule.
End of week runoff
EC IN 1.41
EC OUT 0.358 (very low after flushing 20l and adding 4l nutrient mix, maybe should have used more to bring ec up to same as input?)
PH IN 5.8
PH OUT 5.7
Thanks for checking out my diary and wish you all the best on your grows! 🙏👍
Start of week I pushed on to the last week of schedule (full rate of bloom) and went 1/2 strength.
After flush I dont think I gave enough nutrients to fill pot, so runoff ec was consisently low for the week and couldnt work out why. Realised 4 litres isnt enough to fill 20l pot after flush so put through more like 10 until runoff was matching input EC.
Gave 1/4 strength nutrients after to keep it low and work back up.
Deficiencies still looking the same on most older leaves but top leaves arent affected.
Buds still looking a little whispy, the frost on this one is insane though. Covered head to toe even some fan leaves.
Thanks for stopping by! 👊🙏
Progress is ok, bud development is slowing down quite a bit and the EC is rising >0.3ec after feeding at 1.0 it was coming out at 1.3 so decided to increase fertigation to 2x a day to try and keep ec from swinging too high.
All good except 70% humidity at the moment with all fans going, better in the day but at night ive seen it reach 97% in the greenhouse.
Might have to look into getting dehumidifier + heater for out there.
Thanks for stopping by 👊 good luck to u all 🙏
As expected, bud rot beginning now 😤 ive added a heater in the greenhouse as when tempa are getting low at night the humidity is sky rocketing so in the hope of keeping it down ive added that.
Has helped quite a bit but still bud rot is on its way, so chopped the parts and just going to hope it rides it out to the end..not best start with autos i have to say...rockwool finessed me and being so stubborn with it I left them inside trying to sort them out for too long then flower hits and thats that..not very friendly to beginners.
Which is odd as when you start researching you get the impression that autos are much easier for beginners..cant relate sorry. One mistake and thats that..its flowering and staying at 6" tall.
Anyway live and learn 🤣 thanks people🙏
Not really worth reviewing, went wrong on my part only really. Spent too long trying to correct things when they were in rockwool and lost precious time so they were always a bit behind the game. They ended up getting some pest issues out in the greenhouse and started to get budrot when I pulled them.
Didnt get anything even worth weighing so will be putting it all into bubble hash. Was a good learning experience and think just a couple things changed next time I can have a much more successful next grow! 🙏👊
Was a really good experience and thanks to all who have supported and given advice and tips along the way. What a solid community! 😁: 1:🙏
