Seeds were planted 9/6/2020 in soil mixed with worm castings, 4-4-4 veg fertilizer, 4-8-4 bloom fertilizer, kelp meal, alfalfa meal, and bat guano, I also planted each seed with a small sprinkling of Mycorrhyzae in the holes. Dechlorinated water using vitamin C and Ph'd downed the water to 6.4 from starting at 7.4. Glueberry, even though sprouted 1 day later than the other 2, seems to be growing slow. Both Northern Lights are growing well.
Week two I watered with a compost tea I brewed for 36 hours. Tea has worm castings, kelp meal, alfalfa meal, bat guano, and unsulphured molasses. I also top dressed the the plants with 4-4-4 all purpose dry amendment. Both of the Northern Lights strains are doing much better than my test run plants. The Glueberry unfortunately isn't growing, I had the same issue with 1 of my test run plants. Might end up pulling and restarting the Glueberry. This update was supposed to go up earlier, but life got in the way. The pictures also look much better on my camera but didn't turn out that great once uploaded.
Things are going well this week. I pulled the Glueberry sprout as it was not growing at all, it's a repeat of my test run except with 2 different strains. I replanted another Glueberry seed but it has not yet sprouted. Both of the Northern Lights are doing great. The internodal spacing is tighter than in my test run and the plants are growing faster as well. I brewed up some more compost tea this week and used the tea ingredients to top dress the soil before watering with the tea. I gave 3 cups of the compost tea to both of the Northern Lights making sure to fully saturate the soil and used a little left over as a foliar spray. All-in-all I'm happier with the start of this run than the test run, working out the kinks and getting this figured out.
Well it hasn't been the greatest couple of weeks. Hard drive went out on my computer then ended up losing my phone. Luckily my phone was found at work but didn't have any pictures from when I last uploaded. A quick run down: everything was going fine until my barley used bottle of PH down went bad. Could not tell if it was my PH meter of the down so ordered a PH calibration powder, meter was accurate but the PH down was reading at a 7.03. I had to use my tap water un-PH'd, which is a lil high, until i could get new up and down. Bought General Hydroponics up and down kit and glad I did, plants started getting locked out. It took a about a week for the plants to start returning to normal. I started tying down the tops with garden twine and adjusted every couple of days. Both plants were top dressed with down to earth 4-4-4 and worm castings. This grow is doing much better than my test run although it is week 8 and neither have started showing signs of flowering yet, I guess that will mean bigger plants. I also bought a humidifier and set it to 55, I was letting the moisture from watering to humidify the tent but it would get up to 80% then at the lowest 35%. I will need to get a dehumidifier later to help keep the humidity in control. Also got a couple pot stands to elevate the fabric pots off the ground. I have also stopped the compost tea as I was noticing some burnt tips, I kept the PPM's low so it shouldn't have been too hot but after stopping the tea I've seen no more burnt tips. Slowly improving although not sure why my plants seem to be shorter than other autos at the same grow time. Could be my light not putting out enough power or there is an issue with my environment? Will continue to making small improvements until the problem is solved.
Have a new addition in place of the glueberry that died out early on. I work at a grow and was tasked with killing off a couple hundred plants due to there not being enough room for them yet. Clones had been taken from all of the plants and will have many more than what we killed off. I asked and was able to snag a plant before it got shredded. Found out that the NL from 00seeds is not an auto flower, I had sworn I had bought 2 auto flower collections but one turned out to be photos. As for the Seedsman plant I triple checked the order and the package and both say auto. Only 2 explanations, either the seeds got mixed up before being packaged or the seed I planted took on the photo trait instead of the auto trait. I have 2 seeds left so will plant another later down the line and see if it turns out o be an auto. Noticing some yellowing in the leaves, I am going to switch up the fertilizer I am using and see if that helps. Plants might be a little too short to start using the trellising but using the string to tie down the branches wasn't working great. Even though the growth has been really slow, still pretty happy over all with how they look.
Things are going pretty good in the tent. Knowing that these are photos I took the opportunity to top the 2 Northern Lights. I didn't top the Strawberry cough, wanted to give it another week to adjust from it's old home to it's new one. Something I forgot to add last week was I transplanted the SC into a 5 gal pot and used ocean forest potting soil. When I got the SC, it was in a one gal pot and needed to be transplanted. I am unsure if trying to use organic dry amendments was working out so I bought Age Old grow and bloom to see if that helps. Maybe I was missing something the plants were needing or not giving enough. I gave a 1/4 dose to see how the plants respond. Slightly worried about the SC as the fertilizer it's used to was specially tailored to the soil and unsure if it will be fussy. Something I have noticed is the SC leaves are softer and have an almost velvety feel to them where the 2 NL feel normal.
Nothing major this week, just did a little bit of defoliating, topping, and tucking the odd branch under the netting. I introduced Age Old Organics kelp with the grow feed. Looking at previous pictures and I am unsure as to why the 2 NL are growing so slow while the SC seems to be exploding since I got her 3 weeks ago. Maybe it's the soil I transplanted her into as the 2 NL are in 2 different brand potting soils, this wasn't on purpose, I had under estimated how much soil I would need for 2 5 gallon pots and the garden store I bought the first soil closed for the next 3 days. I had ran to Home Depot and looked for the same brand if not then one that was close. My next run I will use Fox Farm's Ocean Forest as that's what the SC is in now. Next week I'm thinking of lifting the netting and giving all three a trim.
I am extremely happy with the SC and she gives me hope as all previous plants have been growing slow or getting 1 inch tall and staying that size (happened in both grows). I have noticed that the seedsman NL has much thinner leaves than the 00seeds NL.
