First grow:
auto white widow from seedbank.co formerly seed king. started germination 9/8. Planted sprout in 3gal forever home 9/10. Running 18/6 light schedule. Plan to do only LST for this grow with organic fertilizers and top dressings/teas for delivery. I started with an organic soil base adding in worm castings, perlite, vermiculite, epsom salt, peat moss and dr earths vegetable and flower fertilizer all at recommended rates. I also added a container of big red earthworms. I plan to use this soil for future grows using a modified no til philosophy. I’m sort of at the mercy of local weather. Tent is in an exterior closet with no HVAC. Waited until exterior day temps were within range. Will use space heater later in grow if needed. Tent has an in-line ventilation fan and carbon filter plus a small fan at top and bottom of tent. Vent is currently running off of Inkbird thermostat switch, comes on at internal tent temps over 80f. The two internal fans are always on. Any and all comments or advice welcomed.
Will update daily growth pics for the early weeks then move to weekly pic album.
Day of sprout temp and humidity.
Temp : 79f
Rh: 76
This grow is my first. Things are going smoothly so far. The tent is in an exterior closet. I run the lights through the nights to offset the dropping ambient temps. May need a space heater as the grow progresses.
I’ve done one light top dress with dr. Earths vegetable and flower fert and one inoculation with great white.
Next watering to include powdered aloe Vera, waiting on a delivery of silica which will be used with the aloe Vera for every watering and foliar spray. Will also be picking up some malted barley this weekend to top dress weekly and feed the worms. Stay tuned.
9/20 added 1 1/2 tsp of fresh ground malted barley top dressing.
9/24 noticed a few fungus gnats today. Suppose I need to cut back a bit on the water. Ordered some sticky pads and neem oil to treat.
9/25 Her third week.
Will begin full nutrient schedule this week with tea made from the dr earth fertilizer once per month. The spent fertilizer leaves will then be placed as top dressing.
Will continue weekly top dressing with ground malted barley
All waterings and foliar sprays will contain aloe Vera and silica.
A small amount of fungus gnats have been spotted, will begin treatment with neem oil spray and sticky pads as well as reducing watering frequency.
I also place an exhale co2 generator in the tent.
9/28 no visible signs of fungus gnats after one neem spray treatment.
9/29 first fertilizer application with tea made from dr earth. Applied liquid with 500 tds and 6.5ph approx 5 pints until 20% run off. Also topped dressed with 1/2 cup of the tea bag mulch. Measured runoff at 6.5ph and 700 tds.
10/1 Seems to show some signs of mag deficiency. Ordered some cal-mag and treated with a foliar of 1Tbs /gal of Epsom salts ph’d at 6.5.
10/2 am. Pistils showing. Shows some darkening of color after one foliar epsom spray. Will discontinue foliar since some flowers are here.
Started week four on 10/3 with first pistils. Found my tds to be too low for early flowering. Was at 800. Being an auto flower I started her from sprout in her 3gal forever home grow bag. Was Leary about putting sprout straight into hot soil when planted so my TDS at the start on 9/10 was at 59. Probably should have had it around 200-300. Time passed so quickly that I don’t believe she’s gotten the mutes she needs for best harvest. I fed her first nutes with a 2.2.2 fert at day one of week 3 and started LST. Going into third week she began to exhibit signs of possible call/mag or/and nitrogen deficiency. When I measured run off after dosing first nutes she was at 800 tds. Probably only at 100 tds prior to that meaning she probably lost some veg growth possibilities. Learning she should be at 1000-1400 for early flower I dosed with some blood meal for higher N levels as well as bone meal and dolomitic lime to increase cal/mag. Run off after that was at 2000 tds. I left her like that for approximately 12 hours then flushed with 6.0 ph water and brought her back down to 1300 tds. She looks much better. Hate that I made her hungry for the first two weeks. Also applied a bit of LST 10/3 to open space for secondary colas to get full light. Looking forward to see how she rebounds.
11/11 watered .75 gal to 2pints run off. Started at 1350 tds 6.7 ph. Now 1410 tds 6.6 ph. Base water mix was 210 tds 5.8 ph with recommended dose per gal of simply silica, aloe Vera powder, great white innoculant, cal/mag and molasses. Watered in topdress of 1/4 cup dr earth 2.2.2 and a Tbsp bone meal. Gave weekly dose of malted barley topdress and foliar fed with the base water mix.
Did a medium stress training on 10/15 last few days of week 5 lowering main cola from 17” to 8”. Also dropped mid colas to 8” leveling canopy. 10/17 made some further adjustments as tops and fans flipped upright. Last adjustment 10/18 removed a handful of fans to open all bud sites. Noticing a bit of yellowing watered with 700 tds dr earth bloom. runoff at 6.5 ph down to 1100 tds from last measure of 1400+. 10/18 Added another dose of dr bloom runoff moved to 1240 tds 6.5 ph. Painting Happy trees hopefully. 🙂
10/19 pm let run off settle. tested at 1350 tds 6.82 ph
10/24 finished off the week looking good. nute deficiency in check.
10/24 watered 2L input 5.98 ph 369 tds / output 6.5 ph 880 tds
10/25 light defoliation, dosed with 2 tbs dr earth bloom booster and 2 tbs barley mixed in top 1” of soil. Topdress did with 2 cups earth worm castings. Water run off 6.8 ph 1410 tds
Hey man yeah looking around week 6 to me. You can crop her but you will lose some goodness better let her go another week at least before you start the flush :) Great looking plant btw. 👊 The main colas will mature quicker than the other buds due to having more light keep in mind to check various areas of said plant before making any drastic decisions :) Peace out .👌
She’s really drinking a lot now. Every other day the container is dry and light. Two liters every other day. Some of you may wonder why I’m not running a flush. I plan to harvest in stages to let the lower flowers mature to full term and I want them to continue getting the nutrients they need to do their job right. After a lot of research I find it’s heavily debated as to whether a flush for a soil grow with natural fertilizer is really necessary. If the plant was growing outdoors in a garden it wouldn’t really get a flush. The last nail in the coffin for the answer on this for me was this article from high times: https://hightimes.com/grow/new-research-shows-flushing-plants-before-harvest-may-be-unnecessary/
so I’ve decided not to this go round. At any rate here’s what’s happening.
11/6 watered 2 liters to runoff: input 5.5ph 665 tds. Output 6.8 ph 1330 tds.
Pistils over 80% orange but trichs aren’t quite there yet. Anticipate harvesting the oldest tops first, probably by the weekend.
11/8 The smell is fabulous and she really showed some beautiful fall colors last week. I did some more defoliation removing the spent fan leaves. Now it’s just the waiting.
11/14 Just waiting on the tops to finish expect that to be within the week. Watered today tds 468 ph 6.4
Like watching paint dry but it smells so much better.
Taste tested on 11/25 only two days into cure. Smoked a .25 gram nug between three people, 1/2 in a vape machine 1/2 in a bong. So high. Already amazing can’t wait to see after the two week mark.
After 2 week cure the smoke and smell is amazing. Strong high. Feels more potent than high thc strains bought commercially. Home grown is so much better. Final weight is 1.5 zip. Wish she’d been more but I learned so much to apply to the next round in the tent (Ak47 auto). Stop by an watch it’s progress. Thanks for watching 🙏
