This is my second grow, and seeing as I had some issues with germination last time around, I decided to try the paper towel method. Seeds germed and sprouted 1cm taproots within about 18 hours. Went into small seed pots as my autopots had not arrived yet. After planting, both seeds were above soil approx 24 hours later. One plant came up with the seed case still attached. It was not obstructing the leaves in any way, so I just left it alone, and it eventually fell off by itself around day 4 Having to use some wet cloth spread inside the tent to increase RH, but it's much more favorable conditions than my last grow. Growth has come on nice and steady for the first week. My auto pots arrived on day 7, so I ended the week by transplanting the girls into their new (and final) homes. First grow was hectic, but I feel much more comfortable with the process this time around. Really looking forward to this strain!

Another week of nice steady growth to report :) They have taken to their new homes well. They were transplanted into 15 liter auto pots last week, and are currently being top fed for ~2 weeks to establish before switching to the auto pots on. Nothing really remarkable to report. One of the plants has a slight yellowing of the cotyledon. I'm not really concerned, as one of the plants on my last grow had the exact same thing, and it was fine. Just wondered if this is a common thing, some random quirk in the genes, or maybe something about my setup? Who knows, but the plant seems fine and is flourishing regardless. I'll let the plant tell me if something's up. One plant is very slightly behind the other in terms of leaf development, but that's really just being picky because they are both coming on really well. For the first 2 weeks, they were only fed PH'd water with a little rhizo and calmag. I have introduced some proper nutes for the first time today at around quarter strength. With Coco A+B now taking care of the Ca and Mg needs of the plant, I've dropped the CalMag additive, and will now likely only use it if I begin to see any deficiencies. I kinda get the impression that CalMag get used a lot when it really doesn't need to be.... but I don't really have enough knowledge to know if there are legitimate use cases for it to be fed for an entire grow like I've seen in some diaries, so I could be completely wrong on that. I will see how they respond to the nutes, and dial in accordingly over the coming weeks. I want to keep them at a fairly low level, ready for switching on the auto pots. After top feeding for the whole of my first grow, I am a little apprehensive about salt build up in the auto pots. But damn, they seem to produce good results, just gotta manage that EC and not let it get out of control. All in all, well happy with the progress, coming on nicely.

And another week has passed, this grow seems to be flying by. Lots of solid growth this week, just compare the first and last pics, it says it all really. Whilst I am happy with the volume of growth, it does all seem to be only growing outwards, and not a lot of upward movement, but I guess that's to be expected from an indica dominant strain. I was hoping to begin LST soon, but there is not enough height in the plant yet for any tangible manipulation that won't damage it. I'm hoping that when the roots find the edge of the pots, they will get their feet and have a good stretch. I think I will be switching the auto pot system on this week, but just a little apprehensive about maybe switching it on too soon. I will post a grow question and get some feedback. I have been gradually increasing nutes throughout the week, and both plants are sucking them them up. I'm still top feeding until the auto pots are switched on, and runoff EC is still well below input strength. I fimmed my last plants in week 4 with really good results, and had been planning to do the same with these guys, but I will hold off for a while and just keep an eye on growth and make sure I'm happy before anything other than LST. All in all, happy with the week's progress, just need the girls to focus their energy on some vertical growth so I can get to training them. Have a good week everyone.......

I have 2 plants in 15 liter auto pots. They have been in their final pots and being top fed for 2 weeks, which should be long enough to switch on, but I read that I should wait until the leaves are as wide as the pot. What do people think based on the current size?

Hey! You need your root system to be developed enough that it makes it to solution. Once your root system is pretty good you’ll start to notice pretty rapid growt. You've mentioned she doubled in size so I’m thinking that's starting to happen. It normally takes 15-20 days. The leaves to the edge rule of thumb is good to follow. I'd say your almost there, maybe another 2-4 days and go ahead and turn them on. Good luck and happy growing!

After what has been a nice quiet start to the grow, this week has been quite involved. I've been wanting to get on with training, but the plants were very low and wide, which made it difficult for any LST. They finally got tall enough, so this week, they were fimmed and LST was started. Fimming hasn't really slowed them in any way, and they have responded well to being bent over and tied down. Still quite new to this, so the LST isn't pretty, but it's working as intended. The satellite branches are receiving the newly diverted auxins and are all enjoying being kings of the castle. I tried turning on the auto pots this week, but after 24 hours, the plants had not drunk from the trays - The aqua valve itself was functioning correctly, I think that the roots were not quite down far enough to reach the water. Reverted to top feeding, and will give another week just to ensure the roots are ready next time. As always at this stage, leaf tucking becomes a way of life. New growth is there with every feeding (currently fertigating 4 times a day) and I always have to spend time tucking leafs out the way of potential bud sites. Very impressed with the genetics of these plants. My first grow had a bunch of mutations, but these plants seem to be perfect in every way! Not sure how much longer they will stay in veg. Was hoping for a few more weeks, but autos gonna auto I guess, so we will see. I've been very light handed with the nutes so far this run, might give them a little push this week and see what they can take. I think the coming week will mostly be all about leaf tucking and adjusting the tie downs. Happy growing everyone :)

It's been a busy week, the girls are starting to get very demanding and needy of attention. Constant battles with ties and leaves. The girls are strong, too - I tie down branches by looping one end of garden tie around the branch, and then pinning the other end of the tie against the pot with a stake. But they are literally pulling the stakes up. Had only done some light defoliating up until now, but with all the training, too much foliage was choking them up. Cleaned out the lower and inner parts of the plant as per the Mephisto strain guide. Been pushing the nutes a little harder this week. Up to around 1.7, which is about as high as I'll go as I think they will start flowering any day now. When that happens, I will back off the A + B and bring in some Canna Boost. Can maybe increase a little once we get to mid-flower, but we will see. I still haven't tried switching the auto pots back on yet. I'll be moving the grow downstairs once flowering starts proper, to a room with a built in dehumidifier - much better ambient environment for flowering. I will switch the auto pots on then I think. For now, I've been maintaining a 4 x a day fertigation schedule, starting around 7am, then every 5 hours through until 10pm. They then have a 9 hour overnight period, with a 2 hour lights-off period in the early hours. My other 2 hours of" lights off" is made up of 4 x 30 min periods in the day when I am watering / draining run-off, which gives a total daily light schedule of 20 hours. I tend to increase the amount of run-off in relation to the EC. At low EC, I will usually water to around 10%, increasing up to around about 30-40% at the current feeding level. This equates to around about 3 liters of nutrient solution per plant being poured through the pots on a daily basis. Despite the severe haircuts, the girls have been thriving and seem to be entering their pre-flower stretch. Plant on the right is slightly larger, with some better node spacing, but I'm happy with both plants. No definite pistils yet, but they will arrive any day I think. I've lowered the light to 15", although I'll probably be swapping it out this week and bring in the bigger flowering lights. Happy days!

White Crack in coco, currently late veg / pre-flower stage. Canna nutes being fed at EC 1.7 / pH 6.0 with runoff EC 1.3 / pH at 6.2. Noticed this on a single leaf this morning. Only change in last few days is that I am now filtering my water before mixing in nutes. Any thoughts?

Yes my friend, you have been running at the top level of ph for soiless grows so the 6.2 in the runoff is actually set for taking more p and k not nitrogen. Get your ph down to 6 or under in your runoff. Just feed at 5.5 until your ph runoff drops and things will get better. When you switch to flower, and you see flowers forming, start your girls at 700 ppm 1.4 ec and 6.2 ph for early flower, mid flower 6.3 ph and 1.6 ec and for late flower back down to 1.2 or 1.4 ec. Cheers

Woke up this morning to the first true pistils firing form the buds of the plant on the right! Other one should be any day now. Had 6 weeks of good solid vegging, plants seem healthy and are in a good shape ready for flowering. Defoliated once at the start of the week, and as you can see, by the end of the week, they are both full and bushy again. Now that flowering has begun, I've switched to the bigger light. It's a generic no-name light I got at a liquidation sale. Claims 1800w, but in reality it draws ~550ish when measured with my Kill-A-Watt. Plenty enough for my little 3x3. It worked wonders on my last grow, although it did toast the tips of some of the taller buds, so will have to watch the height :) As this was the last week of veg, I will be amending the nutes moving forward - lowering the A+B, and bringing in the Canna Boost for that flower power. Will hook up the dehumidifier as well. RH is generally around 50-55% without it, so need to bring it down a little for flowering. Bring on another week!

Well, it's been a busy week! Finally got round to switching the auto pots on. They took the change well, and have seen some nice steady growth through the week as they progress into flowering. Biggest thing I've noticed this week is the smell. They went from almost no smell at all one day to a real sharp, sweet-tangy, weedy smell overnight. Had to hook up the carbon filter as it was very overpowering without it. The only reason I haven't gone straight to 'Strong' on the smell category is that they are only going to get stinkier and I need something to raise it to when it does! Branches have stretched considerably - some as much as 4-6 inches in a week. I've continued with defoliation, but whatever gets trimmed off is already replaced the next day. Need to keep on top of it though, the innards quickly get choked up with too much foliage and I noticed wet leaves sticking together in a couple of places. However, since I switched the filter on, the air flow has been much better, hopefully this shouldn't be a problem any more. Added the dehumidifier as well. Introduced Canna bloom accelerator into the nute mix. Happy with the first full week of flowering, got the making of a couple of nice plants :)

Another good week of growth. The auto pots were a sound investment. Have saved me so much time and effort, and the results are looking good. Flowers are putting on volume, and pushing out trichs. Haven't really had to interact with them much, other than adjusting a few ties, pulling back branches for better light penetration. Defoliated once this week, now just gonna leave them be. The lower parts of the plant have been gradually pruned away to promote better airflow through the main canopy. The smell is amazing. Loud, sharp and sweet. It's really intense, like sour berries and it gets up your nose like smelling salts :) They are getting pretty sticky too. This is set to be some seriously offensive weed :) I'm gradually pulling back on the A+B and hitting hard with the bloom nutes. I am also going to run 1 week of pk 13/14, and the time seems right to do it now. I've been fairly gentle with nutes this grow after getting some burn last time, but these plants are looking strong. Will add some to the tank and see how they get on with it. I think the plant on the right may finish earlier than the other one, so I may have to set up a separate drying area for one while the other carries on cooking for a bit longer. Happy days....

Fairly short update this week, been mega busy. In short: - Fed for 1 week with canna PK, plants responded well and are starting to fatten up in the buds. - Dropped back on the A+B. - One plant has started to become a lot lighter in color than the other. Need to keep an eye on this, lack of N maybe? They are both feeding from the same res, and pH in trays is identical, so not sure why one is being affected and the other isn't. Will post a grow question when I get the chance Despite the change in color, both plants are doing well - buds are finally starting to put on some weight and fatten up and get frosty. The smell is crazy - super fruity, very strong. Hope it tastes as good as it smells! Will have a more detailed update next week. Peace out!

The girls have rocked out this week. After 1 week of the PK feed, they have starting piling on the weight. One plant was showing some possible signs of deficiency, but she has bounced back, and aside from a few affected leaves she is looking healthy and fattening up nice. Had to support some branches from underneath as the buds gain weight. Continuing to decrease the A+B, will carry on until EC gets down to around 1.3 where it'll sit for the rest of the grow as they finish up. Pumping out frost like crazy and mega sticky - trying to prune a few leaves here and there results in very sticky shears.... it's very satisfying to see! The smell is borderline offensive. Sweet, sharp and strong. Really gets up your nose :) Even with carbon filter running you know exactly what's cooking in the tent. Not really much for me to do at this point - Just keep the air flowing and the feed steady for the next couple of weeks while they ripen up. Will try and get some trich pics for next week.

Not much to report this week. They are coming to the end of their life span, maybe a week or so left to go. Auto pots are doing their thing, buds have ripened nicely. EC down to 1.3 and will stay there for the remainder of the grow. Trichs colors have now all changed to cloudy, with just some speckling of amber coming in around the calyxes. Will be watching closely this week :) One plant has faded dramatically, not sure why. Just putting it down to old age I guess, she's not long for this world. I'm thinking about 10 days to go, will do one last defoliation to aim for some more light penetration in the lower third of the plants :) Happy smoking everyone!

This week's update is a day early as I won't get a chance to do it tomorrow. Finally here, harvest time - girls are getting chopped any day. The fade has come on very strong for both plants now, leaves are dying away and they are reaching the end of their lifespan. They have ripened up well over the last 2 weeks, pushing frost all the way. Trichs are all cloudy with about 20% amber in the calyxes. Buds have firmed up and look nice and dense. There is a fair amount of larf lower down the branches, may need to look into some sidelights. Or get a bigger tent. Either way, I need to get more light down and around the branches. This has been a really straightforward grow compared to my first attempt :) They have pretty much grown without fuss or need of much attention. They have trained well, responded to fimming without slowing down. They were very bushy in veg and the close structure was tricky to work with at times. The smell is unbelievable - Sweet berries with a sour, tangy undertone. Frosty, smelly and super sticky :) Next update will be in about 2 weeks with the harvest details and final weight, once drying is complete.

This was a really fun grow. I was better prepped than my first grow, and it paid off. A lot less stressful! 10oz is a blinding result from 2 plants for me, I know some people can grow monsters, but for me, this huge and gives me way more than I need to see me throw until the next harvest is in the jars :) I purchased some other seeds from Mephisto at the same time as these, so the only problem I have now is deciding which to grow next - Thanks Mephisto for my Christmas weed! Merry Xmas everyone :)
