Hello. I'm Chuck. I started smoking in grade 9 (14 years old). I did my first outdoor grow at 18 and have been growing indoors for the last 25 + years. I hope to pass on a few things I've learned.
> I've gotten a clone from a friend, which he got from a friend, who told him that this was Pink Kush from Barneys Farm that he ordered and grew. He picked the best of 10 seeds and doesn't belong to G.D. So I'll do a diary on his pick of plant. The reason I say "Comes Home", is a good story of how I got my first strong indoor cannabis plant. We are reaching back 26 years now.
> I was working for a large municipality on Vancouver Island, Canada. I was working as a garbageman. 2 of us worked on a large 25 ton, 3 axle truck. We had 2 large carts on the back of the truck that we could dump with hydraulics. The carts were 100 gallons and had 2 wheels, easy to move around and dump. It was a good job. We were paid well. I had a good partner that I liked and we smoked together on the job.
> I was looking to grow my own because our supply chain was not the greatest and the quality was all over the place. I made up a small room with white styrofoam on the walls and a 400 watt lamp. I hooked up a 4 inch disk fan inside air tubing for exhaust and a 10 inch fan for circulation. Now all I need are some seeds or a good clone and I'm set. I could find anything worth growing. A strain called A3 was all I could find (somebody's cousin had). Tasted great but it took 3 joints to get a buzz. No thanks. Mark Emery had his 4th Cannabis Canada magazine out (the seed catalog didn't come out till #10) and there were some adds in the back for seeds for sale. But before I could make up my mind to order another opportunity came up.
>Back to my job. We visited the same house once every 2 weeks. You get use to your area after doing the job for a couple of years. My partner (I'll call him M) lived inside the area we did. Sometimes we would go to his house and drop off bottles and cans or things we had found. People didn't recycle much back then so we would find all sorts of interesting stuff, some I still have.
> One day we met at the truck in the morning and talked about the house that got busted over night, just around the corner from my partners house. M said he was woken up be a lot of loud talking through the night and didn't know what was going on until he heard the news. The radio story went like this: the house and group of people were under surveillance for the last 18 of months. The group had rented a house in a average neibourhood and brought in every thing they needed to run a grow house. They were based in Alberta and ran the pot back there in hot, fast cars. There were 4 or 5 people busted here and they were looking at getting the ring back in Alberta. We both went Ahhh, all this pot just around the corner and we were smokin dregs. We didn't pick up that run for 2 days. Oh well.
>I had asked M if I could pick up the house up when we got to it. He agreed, he know I wanted to start growing. M said there was a police car parked at that house 24 hours a day. So the police get out of the car as we work down the street. I met them at the top of the driveway and chatted a bit, we all worked for the same municipality. I finally said: guess I'll get the garbage now, everything O.K. They said: Yea, fill you boots we're all finished here, we are here to stop b & e's and if any of the gang show's up. Pushed my cart around the side of the house to get the garbage and I saw 3 huge root balls from the mothers and many smaller root balls. On my second trip I got the big root balls into my cart, and waved to the police as I pushed my cart out to the truck. My partner had finished off the street and was waiting for me at the truck. We talked a bit, then hooked up our cart and went to his house just around the corner. Now 2 things, I'm just amazed that the police let me take these root balls, and doubly amazed that there were small branches left that I could get clippings from!!! WOW!!! I didn't have a clue how to take clones but I took some clippings. Washed out a pop bottle and put 5 cuttings in fresh water and put them in a side box on the truck. Got home and reread the cloning part of Ed Rosenthal's book Closet Cultivator. Of the 5 cuttings 2 survived and went on to be the best plant I have so far grown. I took about 5 months to find out it power. I have since smoked THC measured pot and this strain was got me as blasted as the 27%, and had pink pistils. It grew like a stretchy Kush and had a very strong smell. I tried to find out for years after what it was. The closest I got was, it's a Kush. Over those first few years I gave away and sold clones of this excellent plant. It had a very good up social high with a bit of body stone but no sleepiness. It felt like something was touching your 3rd eye area. The more I've since read about OG Kush the more I'm convinced the plant I had was OG Kush. The first on the Island and I leaked it out. I can only imagen, that after that some one crossed that plant with some thing good and came up with Pink Kush seeds. I've also heard years later that 1/2 of the plants used in making Fucking Incredible by Vancouver Island Seed Co. was the clone I found. My small claim to fame in the growing of Cannabis. Chuck.
Hello. I've put up some old pictures of my first indoor grow 26 years ago. A found plant, right from under the police's noses. Please read Week 1 for the quick story of how I got the plant that I think was the first OG on the west coast. Please notice the largest fan leaves have a shorter middle finger. An odd trait I've not seen on any other strains seeds I've started. I put up a picture of "me" and my 2nd harvest. That's 4 plants that are hanging. About 3 ounces per plant of super smelly and sticky buds. So smelly that before I had a carbon filter, my wife, who was coming home from riding the bus said that she could smell the pot a block away. What's left of my first harvest is in the jars.
> I topped the plants this last week. I use agricultural sulphur on all my stem plant cuts. It will stop sap from flowing. It's a natural fungicide and miticide. But don't get any on your buds, it will taste like you are smoking match heads. In the weeks to come I will forget that I used sulphur and think is that powdery mildew on the leaves. Get me almost every time.😊 Sulphur is a great healing compound to use on all sick or cut plant. Good for now. Chuck.
Hello There. I'm close to putting these plant in my main grow room. I'll be harvesting the LSD, 5 seeds to 5 plants, a Amnesia Lemon, a Skunkberry, and a Burmberry. I'll post some pics of the harvest because it's part of this diary. Then it will take me a week to clean up the grow room, sanitize the table and reservoir, repot the plants and mix the new nutrients. I have found a few fungus gnats in the main grow room, so I'll concentrate on getting rid of them between stages. I'll try to explain things as I go.
The plants look good, and are recovering after being topped last week. The new growth is light green compared to the older darker green leaves. I can see the pink and red in the leaf stems. I'm looking forward to the trying the vanilla flavor of this plant. I was thinking of getting a DJ Shorts vanilla luna I think it was called, before I got this plant. I can't think of much more to report at this point in the grow.
Good luck. Chuck
Hello. I've been busy with harvesting the main grow room. These are some plants that I didn't show in the LSD diary.
> The Pink Kush are doing well. They have grown about 2 inches this week. I've shown you my clone and seedling cabinet where they live before going in to the main grow room
> I'll be growing 3 Pink Kush clones because another plant I liked from the LSD diary didn't work out. So maybe I'll try 3 different techniques on them and see which does best, some thing to think about.
> I'll have these plants in main room by next week. Chuck.
Hello. Just finished my LSD diary. Doing a diary is a bit more work, but I love grown cannabis.
> Transplanting- I use perlite and vermiculite because it drains well but holds some moisture for overnight. I water 3 times a day with the hydroponic solution, for 1/2 a hour each time. This medium is ph neutral, no adjustments needed. This medium takes well to friendly fungus and microbes for living soil conditions. I use landscapers felt to block the holes and for air transfer to the roots. If I suspect any problems with the roots I can add Hydrogen Peroxide (1 oz. of 35% to 5 gallons of water) without any problems. H.P. doesn't like mold or fungi or bacteria.
> I've attached a tomato cage to the pot. It makes it tricky to wash, but helps out the rest of the time. I'll attach a pole to the cage that I can tie to and that will hold up most buds.
> Lighting- I have a 430 watt HID on a light mover. The light and mover travel up and down a track and stop at the ends for a minute to help the end plants. This works well for the veg and the first 3 weeks of flowering. You'll have to come back to see what happens then! There are 8 plants in the room.
> Ventilation- I have a 8 inch fan on a 6 inch pipe. I've attached a dimmer switch to be able to control the flow of air. It works at about 1/2 speed in the summer and low in the winter.
Chuck.
Hello. It's been a good week. I put my trim in the freezer and made some bubble hash.
> Trim- I use a large piece of wax paper to dry my trim on. I found that even wax paper wicks away moisture. I put the wax paper on a screen to stop mold starting on the bottom. It makes easy to put the trim away. Roll or fold both ends towards the center, and slip into the plastic bag. Pull the wax paper out. Easy. Freezing the trim makes the stem holding the THC crystal, brittle and easy to knock off when you make bubble hash of keif.
> Seeds- I've made my own seeds this year. I crossed Amnesia lemon female with a Dr. Atomic Northern Lights male. Are any of my followers Canadian? I will gladly send you 10 free regular seeds in the mail. Send me a message in the chat area. I'll get rid of your address as soon as I mail the seeds😇
> The Plants-The plants are doing great! and growing fast. I've started my figure 8 technique. This slows the top growth down for awhile. The leaves are looking similar to the ones in the old pictures that you can see in week 2. A wide leaf with a shorter middle leaf. Please read the story in week 1 (if you haven't already) to catch up. The smell (with the rub test on the top stock) smell's very similar to the original Kush plant that I got from that busted grow op.. The smell reminds me of plasterseen ( I don't know how to spell it) It was around before Play Dough and Silly Putty (yea, I'm that old😊)
Talk to ya next week. Chuck.
Hello. It's getting cold here at nights. My grow room is under the front stairs and is all cement. It's about 20 to 22 c through the day and down to 16 or 18 through the night.
> Air Purifier- I have running in the grow room a Oreck XL Professional Air Purifier that run 24 hour a day. It captures and destroys bacteria, mold, viruses and fungi. It has electrified plates that zap any living thing or spores. I had one case of bud rot about 3 years ago, just had to cut out one bud.
>Heating the Reservoir- I use a 15 gallon rubber maid tub with 10 gallons of nutrient solution to circulate. I didn't want to melt the plastic. I found a stainless steel waste basket and drilled a bunch of 1/2 inch holes for water flow. Then I use a fish tank heater to heat the water and not melt the plastic. Works great keeps the water about 21c.
>Being colder I'll veg for another week. I did some clipping and pruning today. I set the bottom branches up, for clones, so it's easier next week. I take several clippings of each strain to make the clones with. My next clipping and pruning will be after 3 weeks of flowering.
More later. Chuck.
Hello. Not much to report this week. Switching to flowering today. 12.5 hours light, 11.5 hours of dark. It works for me. The lights come on 1/2 hour before the first feeding/ watering. It gets things warmed up. The plant roots have 2.5 hours to dry after the last feeding/watering before the lights go out. I water 3 times a day for 1/2 hour each time. Chuck.
Hello. I love the hummingbirds we have here. They are here all year round. They are Anne's Hummingbirds. At this time of year I go around the neighborhood with my 50 gallon tub on a dolly and bring home fallen leaves. I use the leaves as mulch for the flowering plants, bushes, shrubs, and trees in my yard. I don't have much lawn. I've spent most of the week doing this.
> After a week of flowering nothing to new to report. No flowers in sight yet.
>Clones. The clones look good. They look they should after a week.
> Next Diary. I started 5 Purple Paralysis seeds from Cream of the Crop. I like to start my diaries a few weeks before I harvest the main grow room so stay tuned and turned on.
Till next week. Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 2/ start of week 3. I'm just seeing the start of of flower development. I've included some pictures of the rest of the room.
>Light mover- The light mover moves the light back and forth on a metal track. It takes about 1 minute to travel the length and pauses at each end for 30 seconds. It's about 20 years old and I've replaced the gears once. About once a year I take off the cover and put marine grease on the gears.
>Spare light hood- After week 3, I do my final cut, prune and trim on the plants. At that point I add a 2nd light. The extra light really helps in bud development. Make sure you take off the fan leaves along the front and in the middle for greater light penetration, but leave them on the back and sides. As long as the are catching light they are helping.
>Carbon Filter- Since rec cannabis was legalized in Canada I haven't worried about the smell, and I haven't been growing anything really smelly. But it's there if I need it. The carbon pellets lasted about 5 to 6 months before I needed to replace them.
The rest of the gear is; the fan, the air purifier, a oil filled electric heated, dehumidifier and the blue ph, ppm and temp meter. The stuff on the table I use often.
That gives you a look around the edges of my grow room. Chuck.
Hello. This week was the last trim/prune for the plants. I've included some before and after pictures for you to compare. I'm liking what I'm finding for this plant. I could feel the resin on my hands more than a hour after I finished pruning. My sweatshirt I pulled on the next morning still reeked of cannabis (mostly Pink Kush) that I was trimming last.
> Trim/ Prune- I've found that the cannabis plant has a stage that is after the flowering starts and before resin production kicks in. It is at this point that I've found it best to do the final Trim/ Prune. At this point I cut all the small/sucker bottom branches off the bottom 1/3 of the plant and reduce the sucker branches and fan leaves from the middle of the plant. This is also good for air flow for the buds to form. I only take the fan leaves off the top 1/3 of the plant but I tie the top branches back so the light can penetrate the interior of the plant better. Please don't take all the fan leaves off, they do a lot of good for the plant. Only take off what is blocking the light or not getting enough light. Speaking of light.
>2nd Light- At this point I add a 2nd light. I've found the light mover is good for veg stage and setting up the budding sites on the plant, but now is the best time to hit the plant with extra light. The buds have formed and resin production has just started and it's the resin that I grow for.
So tie the tops back but no more trimming after the 3rd week is best for me. Chuck.
Hello. This is Pink Kush Comes Home. Please read the 1st week to catch up on the story.
> I can start to see resin crystals forming on the leaves and flowers, oh boy! I think they have almost stopped stretching now.
> I took a picture of my living soil. The large white chunks are perlite and the smaller white chunks are some of the beneficial fungi. The green tinge is algae. I don't mind a bit of algae, but if it gets too green I spoon off about 1/2 inch. Too much algae will rob the plant of nutrients and lessen air flow to the roots.
>The nutrient solution- In the pictures I show how I mix my water before I put it in the grow room reservoir. I wanted to show the 2 ounce/ 60 mm syringe and the 3 mm syringe I use to mix the solution. It makes it easier than pouring. I get them at the medical supply place. If they ask what it's for I say it's for my Moms bag and the don't ask anything else. They come with different tips. I attach a plastic tube so I can get right down to the bottom of the jug. I find the numbers rub off over time so I file a small mark by the 1/2 ounce marks and mark with a black felt pen so you can still get a good measurement with no numbers.
Good Luck. Chuck. Proudly Canadian.
Hello. It's been a good week. The plants have almost stopped stretching now and the resin production has really picked up as you can see in the pictures. I check the nutrient solution once a day and correct the ppm and the ph then. The ppm can jump up by 200 parts in a day. So I add water till I get the ppm back down to where I want it, then I add some premixed solution to top up the reservoir. Then I correct the ph. It normally goes down in a 24 hour span, but it can go up, it depends on the strain. As long as the ph doesn't go lower than 5.5 or above 6.5 I'll be O.K. Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 6 and the start of week 7. Because of winter I think I'll flower for 11 weeks instead of the normal 10 weeks. I noticed a few fungus gnats so I put Pyrethrin power around the stocks for them to walk in. I haven't seen any this week. It's been a good week. Wishing everyone some Good Luck and a Happy New Year. Chuck.
Hello. This will be the end of week 7 and the beginning of week 8. I think I'll flower for another week because of the lower temp. I normally flower for 8 weeks and flush for 2 weeks. Everything in the grow room is going great. The buds aren't as big as I was hoping but they are crystal covered : ) If your just checking me out please read week 1 for the whole story.
>Clones and Seedlings- are doing well and have gotten over their cloning stress. The seedlings are Purple Paralysis from Cream of the Crop.
>Ventilation Fan- When I first started growing I had a 4 inch dryer tube/pipe with a 4 inch disk fan inside the tube. It was good for 4 plants. When I decided to grow more plants in the same space I got powdery mildew. I fought it for awhile but ended up getting a 8 inch inline fan in a 6 inch tube/pipe. I got it home and all hooked up. It was much too much air. I called and asked if I could in a dimmer switch and he wouldn't recommend it. He also thought it would shorten the life of the fan. I have had the fan running almost non stop for about 20 years. The fan is a little weaker, I have to turn the dimmer switch a little higher these days to get the same suction. In the winter the fan is turned way down/almost off. In the summer the fan works at about 2/3 power. It works great. I found that I could control the relative humidity by taking off some large fan leaves and adjusting the fan. I've had a dehumidifier for about the last 3 years.
Good Luck. Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 8 and the start of week 9. I decided to feed for 1 more week before I flush for the final 2 weeks.
>Dry Ice Kief/Hash- I've made kief before, with a silk screen that had a frame and legs. I vibrated the frame over glass. It made powdery material that can be spooned into a pipe (I didn't like it pressed). This dry ice hash is a little different. It is spongy and sticky at the same time. It could easily be pressed in to a solid hash piece. The dry ice gets things so cold that most of the flavor is retained. It has more flavor than the bubble hash or the kief I've made in the past. Dry ice hash or CO2 hash can be made with Bubble Hash Bags. There's video's on youtube if your interested.
>The Size of the Buds- are a little smaller than I was hoping. I don't like to prune new (to me) plants to heavily first time. I will try a heaver pruning in the 3 week of flowering next time round.
>Crystal Covered Buds- The buds are covered with THC crystals. In the rub test I can smell the vanilla and kush.
> Flushing- Yes I still flush and I will start flushing next time. Till then. Good Luck. Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 9 the start of week 10.
The Pink Kush is starting to have some color in the leaf stems and stock. With a few leaves showing they are going to change to purple.
>Flushing- I like to flush for 2 weeks. I've tried not flushing. And a few times I've had to cut the plants down early because of problems (spider mites, powdery mildew) and tried to save the buds. I could always taste the difference between the flushed and not flushed buds. Flushing for 1 week is fine when I was finishing at 7 or 8 weeks but now that I'm finishing at 10 or more weeks I like to flush for 2 weeks. Today I will change to water and Hydrogen Peroxide (HP). My mix is 1 oz. of HP to 5 gallons of water. HP doesn't like root rot or bacteria so this is a good time to use it. HP also dissipates chlorine if you use city water. The plant benefit from the extra oxygen it gets from the HP. But the HP also stresses the plant enough to affect the color without getting it cold. HP will also control fungus gnats. You can add HP at anytime you want in hydroponics.
Please read the story in week 1 if you haven't already.
Good luck. Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 10 and the start of week 11. Please read week 1 if you haven't already.
>Flushing- This first week is for flushing the medium. I started with 90 ppm and HP and after a couple of days it was up to 900 ppm. I topped up the water a couple of times dropping the ppm to around 650 each time. I added more Hydrogen Peroxide (HP) to a full reservoir about half way through the week. My mix is 1 once of 30% HP to 5 gallons of water. This second week of flushing is the same. I'll start with 90 ppm municipal water and add HP. The ppm count won't go as high this week and I get more color in the leaves. To Quote Ed Rosenthal : ) The plants react quickly to the change in the environment, (the flush) by focusing on the maturation of the flowers rather than continued production of flowers. I also use Enzymes Complete- a Natural Cleaner at the same time as the HP. The enzymes will clean up anything killed by the HP and other organic mater that might cause mold or rot.
Next week will be harvest after a couple days of dark.
Good luck. Chuck.
Hello. Welcome my Pink Kush diary. Please read week 1 to find out why I named the diary Comes Home. It was one brash move by me to save this strain, not knowing that I was saving the strain just wanting something good to grow. These are the last pictures before I harvest this week. This is the end of week 11.
>Pink Kush- I haven't tried this plant yet. I hope it is as strong as it looks. I haven't seen much pink or red color on the buds yet but there has been a lot of color on the stock. stems and the leaves have turned a dark green/purple. The medium sized buds are crystal covered and are dense to pinch. I'll be saving this trim for hash!!! Be prepared for some very smelly buds if you decide to grow this strain. There has been some stretch when the plant went into flowering. I'll be more prepared for that next run. I'll prune the strain a little heavier the next time it flowers to see if I can get a little bigger buds.
>Dark Days- I like to let the plants sit in the dark for a few days. This is the start of the drying process to me. It is a lot easier to lift the pots out of the grow room after a few days of drying. The trimming process goes smoother with a little less water in the plant. I have found that if I skip the dark days I can taste more of a bitterness in the smoke. I have found that flushing, dark days and curing in a paper bag the best (for me) process for great tasting pot (I get complements all the time). I don't have to open the jars for 5 minutes a day for months to get rid of the bad taste.
For me it's all about quality than quantity. Good Luck. Chuck.
I so happy to have this strain back in the grow room. Tastes, smells and looks like the original that I acquired from that busted grow op. so long ago. The taste is a spicy hashy taste. I can sort of make out the vanilla flavor in the background. The buzz is strong. I would guess 22-24%. It's a nice up head buzz with a bit of body stone too. I feel it through the sinuses and it feels like a finger is barely touching my third eye area on my forehead. This strain has a great buzz. The stone is long lasting too. 3 to 4 hours. You are quite blasted but you can get things done and function when you need to. I didn't give a 10 star rating because the buds aren't quite as big as advertised in the Pink Kush description. Yes, each seed is different and will produce differently. So I will thank my friend for the clone and I'll order my own seeds and see if I can get bigger buds. Absolutely recommended strain.
Hello. For the full story-Please read week 1 of this diary.
I'm very happy to have this plant back in the house! It tastes and smells just like I remember and the buzz is the same- very happy! My only complaint is the size of the buds but it is a middle of the winter grow and the average temp was 19-20 c in the grow room. I'm sure the plant will do much better when it warms up in there. I remember that the buds were small when I first started growing the plant. My nephew came down from up the coast and showed me how to clip the plant hard at the 2nd week of flowering. I remember looking at the plant he clipped and said to myself, poor plant. But it bounced back very well and produced bigger buds. So I'll try that next time.
>The Buzz- I'll guess the strength about 22-24% It is a great stone, mostly a up head buzz. I feel blasted but can still function and talk to people or get things done. It has a long lasting stoned feeling. 3 to 4 hours. It's great for watching tv too.
Plant #1 was about 2 1/2 feet tall and I got 37 g of dry bud from it.
Plant #2 was about 3 feet tall and I got 61.5 g of dry bud from it.
Plant #3 was about 3 1/2 feet tall and I got 104 g of dry bud from it.
Total for 3 clones was 202.5 g or 7.23 oz.
I've added pictures of some of the other plants in the grow room. The Amnesia Lemon Sisters and LSD. Most of the grow room is by Barney : )
Best of Luck Too You. Chuck.
Whats up buddy? Looks awesome! Have you tried dry ice extraction instead of the cold water and ice? I used to do it with the ice and water and tried the dry ice way, and ill never go back. Better results, way less messy, and you don't have to wait for stuff to dry again. Its ready as soon as it falls from the bag! Use the same bags and everything. Just drop some dry ice in there, let it sit for 20 min to chill all the trim and bud and then shake away. Check it out if you're looking for a better way....at least better in my opinion. Looks awesome!
@Chuckwaggon420, Yeah, This is a good one. I think you'll be pleased with this cross.
Hope you get a lot of females to chose from, but you just never know with regular seeds.
The last cross I made with this plant turned out good. Check out my Pinoal Kush to see.
I had crossed the Amnesia Lemon x Northern Lights and tested them. Then crossed a good male of that one with the Pink Kush to make Pinoal Kush.
Most of the plants had sorta a citrus/musk taste and smell and were pretty strong.
Hope you find a good one in what I sent.
Chuck.
Hey Chuck. How are you my dear friend. I've been busy for a while. I'm sorry I couldn't write you. If you have time, I ask you to check the private message section. respectfully.
