Been reading on topping and mainlining autoflowers and whilst most dont recommend it due to the short veg time I'm very tempted to try it as it would be far easy to manage in my small grow area, and have 4 main colas instead
was away 3 days and had to leave her on a drip feed which probably over watered a little but seems as though she didn't mind as had nearly tripled in size in that time! looking very healthy with only plain water so far!
so after last week the plant took a slight turn for the worst, to begin with at the end of week 2 it had filled out the solo cup plant pot with roots far far quicker than i expected, and 3 days after repotting into a larger one it still wouldn't perk back up..
somehow the water runoff from the larger pot was quite acidic with a ph of around 5! I dont understand how as it is the same soil and water as the smaller pot it was in and the water ph was around 6.1-6.5 from the smaller one.
I had flushed the soil as much as I can and the runoff is now around 7 ph but I don't know if it will become acidic again later on and now waiting for the soil to dry out as it has probably overwatered the small plant by now, however it is still growing just far slower than it should be.
after some ph problems which slowed the growth for 3 or so days I had to flush the soil which definitely helped, initially i would have topped the plant once it had gotten a little larger but has seemed to handled it no problem at all, now the fun can begin main lining, still undecided how many bud sites/ colas to go with 4, 6, 8?
think im done with lst and mainlining now, time to let her grow vertical as more calyx are popping up, started feeding bud candy now too. temps have dropped here over the past few days which hasn't helped
had a big stretch and bulked on a lot of calyx and pistils for the first 4-5 days of the week but has seemed to slow down a bit the last two days, leaves are still very perky and looking healthy
started feeding plain water again now, buds slowly stacking and swelling not sure but i think maybe another 2 weeks left on her, wish it really could take 65 days as stated but knew that was never really likely
still going, got a few white pistils still probably around 70-80% are orange/brown now and only the two centre colas are still producing new calyx and the tops, some trichs are beginning to turn amber now too
seemed pretty easy to grow quite resilient and had no problems with being topped and mainlined but took far longer than i expected personally but of course that is common and could even be due to the growing conditions rather than the genetics itself, or both.
Despite intentionally keeping this plant as small as possible I did always think it would end up slightly larger than it was but it never got that stage, I could have also grew out more bud sites to fill out the area better, despite this I'm happy with the outcome for the size of the plant at least!
good, expected the plant to be a little bit bigger despite the fact that I had intentionally kept it as small as possible, just wish it could take 70 days rather than 90 but still happy with the outcome000
I'm curious what your yield will be when this girl finishes flowering! I'm growing my first auto as well right now, but didn't want to top cuz of all the things you read about autos and topping/defo. If you prove them wrong, I might try it as well on my next grow!
Good luck man
@NSRDNTSNH, yea i watched a few of his vids! He tops, defo's and ties down his auto's. At first i thought he was butchering them, but when i saw his yields.. Damn man
@Wifi_OG,I am too! its really hard to tell but im guessing around 10-15g, maybe more if she wells up in the next week or two, but this is a really small bonsai grow!
I would definitely recommend topping as the "bud to plant size ratio" is far higher and if growing in small spaces it helps massively,
I'd definitely recommend checking out a guy called lucky 75s on youtube he has some amazing topped and mainlined auto grows
Thanks!
@GrownTrees,Thanks! Whilst its a tiny amount of produce for some I don't consume massive amounts myself I'd be easily happy with this yeild if only i could shave a few weeks off the grow time 👌
I know I chime in with this a bit late, but what I've noticed with soil grows is usually any runoff is going to be acidic. When you really need to watch your runoff is if you're using a coco/perlite mix your runoff usually reflects what PH you are putting in.
