Here we go again!
New set up with led lights, new tent, new attitude. Trying out autos with all the knowledge from my last babies to see how it goes.
Germinated in little Coco plug then planted into a small pot of soil when the root hit bottom. Watering much less, trying not to overdo nutrients either. Soil is mixed with perlite and coarse coco.
Not going to pH this round, see what happens
Counting the days since I planted the seeds to compare to other diaries. Looking healthy and starting to speed up in growth.
Really enjoying the led, it's been way easier to keep a steady environment without having a strong extraction.
Added a humidity hood by cut the bottom off a plastic bottle, 85% humidity currently. Keeping a close eye incase thats too much
Humidity was too high, I had some bugs attack my other plant but this one seems okay. Been sprayed with insecticidal soap anyway.
Think I'll put him in a bigger pot tomorrow, now that the pest incident is out of the way. I got some microbe tea that I was curious to try so that will go in tomorrow too.
Turned on the bloom light, was using just veg but it shouldn't matter for autoflowers anyway so why not?
See if it makes a big difference tomorrow. Got a bit of light burn so fair enough, its pretty strong. Turned that off, switched to final pot and gave a compost tea.
Good week, I think compost tea does make a big difference. Plant looks much healthier, shot up about an inch overnight :)
Started the pre flowering stretch, and showing signs of sex. Added bloom nutrient and brought down the humidity to 55%. So far so good, no signs of major damage or deficiency!
Fed .5L 2 days ago, will feed tomorrow.
Letting the pot dry out is definately my preferred feed indicator. When potting I added a thick layer of perlite before any mixed soil to avoid my fabric pots from having a soaked bottom all the time.
Defoliated 2 leaves, on both sides of the main stem. Wanting to get more light to the stems in the middle. Will do another 2 tomorrow if the side stems don't get taller.
Took off another 2 leaves near the top to open the canopy, thinking it will give me 3-5 colas but that could be wishful thinking
She gained 2 inches overnight, nice surprise! Started adding top max so adjusted nutrients a bit. Keep it at this level unless I see burn/deficiency, defoliated 3 more leaves yesterday.
Baby is gonna have a big old defoliate tomorrow, I've always been a bit too scared to actually follow through but I trust she will be fine. Rather slow her down a bit than get mildew in a week.
All good after defoliation, made some weed leaf tortillas with the fan leaves. Very delicious :) she's feeding more often, almost every other day consistently and buds are fattening up, they smell strongly of pineapple up close, can't wait till it stinks out the place.
This might be the healthiest plant I've ever grown. I do intend to do better in future but damn, buds are steadily growing bigger without any issues. Defoliation didn't slow her down at all, she seems to have preferred it. :)
Smells amazing and is already quite sticky, my fingers lingered with the smell after touching only 1 bud! She has thickened up loads in 5 days, can only hope and imagine what she'll look like in a week.
She is getting so thick!! I'm very excited, can smell her as soon as I open my grow box now.
No signs of any maturing yet, getting frostier by the day. Can't touch any stems without getting sticky fingers :)
Feeding every other day nearly, usually a litre but may up to 1.2 soon.
Put my big extractor on for better airflow too, had a canfan for ages but never really used it because of the noise, got a fan dial because it's too powerful for my humble little growbox.
Still no signs of many darkening pistils, just getting thicker and frostier! Think she has about 2/3 more weeks, hoping to have her cured and ready by new years. Fingers crossed.
Did some defoliation, see how it works out. Starting to see some darkening pistils but still early days yet
Humidity is down to about 50% my basil plant is chilling in the kitchen now, he did very well keeping the box at 60%+
Buds are still getting thicker and frostier, scent is warm and tropical reminds me of eating fruit on the beach :)
Slowing down on feeding now, don't think she has long left to go.
Starting the countdown, not sure how long she left tbh. Been very busy so haven't had as much time to look at my plants.
Think I'm gonna give her the chop soon, will ask on questions I think :)
Been flushing this week, forgot to delete nutrients, whoops. Probably going to give her the chop tomorrow, very happy with how she's looking. Most of the trichomes are milky, but I could be tempted to leave her a few days more. If so I'll water once more tomorrow then that's that.
New week, but chopped her down! She looked good to me, 65 days from seed. After trimming got 87.9g wet weight, another 13g of purely sugar leaves and everything else went into the compost heap.
Bud from the main stem was an absolute beast. Looking forward to tasting her already.
Day 69 update: halfway dry, had some popcorn buds that dried out so I tried them. The tropical flavour is insanely tasty, stays on your tongue for a long time. Going to be incredible after curing :)
Great beginners plant to grow, she was so quick I barely realised to do lst or anything. Very resistant to bugs, had a small problem in the beginning which didn't faze the plant at all.
Little to no problems with nutrients, the taste is incredibly fruity and tropical with hints of pineapple, mango and a dash of lemon. Smell if almost not like weed at all, more like a slightly weedy pineapple room spray. All in all great smoke after drying. Can only imagine what it'll be like after the cure :)
Trimmed the sugar leaves, but added then to the jar anyway because they taste like bud lol, super frosty got 4g of that dry, didn't add that to dry or wet weight.
Overall, it's been a breeze. Trying to slow down and just observe more from my plants, I've always learnt better through action and the autoflowering timeline is becoming a bit clearer with my chosen method. Testing all findings so far on my last flowering plant to see how much I've learnt.
Pineapple express was super express, from seed it never let anything slow it down, I wish I started growing with both the veg and bloom light on earlier but live and learn. I'm sure it would've been a taller plant but I'm really happy with the result.
Buds are frosty and the taste is so good, I'm sure I'll be growing for years to come. Growdiaries has been an invaluable resource since I joined, learning from examples is wonderful, I can't wait to try some techniques now that I can keep a healthy environment.
Thanks for reading! Thanks to Growdiaries!
@Mwig86,
I'm not measuring the amounts of water, just adding nutrients per litre then watering till the pot is heavy, don't water again till it's light. Last (almost) 2 weeks its been every 3 days.
First week I only added 1/4 dose of root juice which is a stimulant. Now in second week I've added 1/2 dose of nutrient and full dose of calmag because I have some coco mixed in the soil.
Im just trying different things compared to my last grow to see what happens.
I'm about same stage as you will add more pics this week to show decent growth this week u see new light. Interested to see what I'm doing compared to others.
