Transplanted into 5 Gallon pots today. Little one in the front almost didn't make it. It didn't germinate as well as the other two. I tried to start 3 other Jack Herrier seeds but they were a little old so I'm not surprised they didn't take. First time the Aerogarden hasn't worked to germinate. My last 2 grows were sativas so it makes these leaves look so broad in comparison
Before and after topping pictures. The guys in the back got a couple leaves burned cause I had the light a little too low the first night I transplanted.
I let my last grow get too tall before switching to flower so I'm topping again this week. I need to stay on top of this grow because I've got one less plant this time than usual. I'll need to go a week or two longer during the veg stage so I can fill the tent but expect a similar yield.
Going to wait another week and then I'm going to top them once more. Put my screen in but it will take them a week or 2 before they hit it. I'll put them to flower in 2 weeks. I think I'll start with the nutrients next watering. I'm using fresh Fox Farms soil so I've just been using straight water so far. Going to try and not water quite as often as I have in the past. I was sticking to an every other day schedule but I'm waiting until the soil tells me to water it.
I topped them again this week and trimmed up some of the under carriage. Had some fan leaves get singed from being a little too close to the light so I took a lot of them as well. My screen is a bit too high with these pots. I think I will lower it by a couple of inches. I need to get to wire to open them up some. Next week I will put them into flower unless they don't look they are handling the haircut that well.
First week of flowering. Hard to tell the height as I am trying to spread the plants out across more of the screen. I would look for signs of buds in about another week.
Second week of flowering. Trying to fill out the grid. Moved the light a little more forward over the lone plant. Hopefully that will encourage it to stretch a little more to fill out the front of the screen. Only having 3 plants has put off the symmetry. Trimmed up the under carriage a little to make it a little easier to water the back 2 plants.
Some of the colas right under the light are getting a little blanched which I'll need to keep a better eye on. A noticed a couple of them are starting to fill out. I cleaned up under the screen a little bit but still have some stuff that might still poke it head up so I let them go a while longer.
The stretch seems to be slowing down. Fan leaves on some of the colas are still getting bleached out from being to close to the light. I try to keep the light at least 12" but the ones directly under it out pace my watering schedule. My concern is that if I move the light too fast the plants that aren't as tall won't get all the light they need.
The smell is starting to get stronger. When I opened the tent I thought I noticed pine for the first time. I've never grown this strain before, I'll have to look it up on the RQS website and see what they it should smell like. First time growing any kind of berry strain.
This is the 8th week of 12/12 light schedule. The seed packet says 9-11 weeks for flowering but I always end up going over that by 2 weeks so by my math I'm thinking I'm about 5 weeks away. I'm eyeing one of these buds thinking it could look like one I'm going to want pictures of. I've seen some videos and pictures where the grower trims the fan leaves once the plants are into flowering. I've never done it but I'm wondering what the prevailing method is.
Trichomes are getting a little more cloudy but no amber yet. I don't expect these to be close for another 2 weeks at least. I'm planning on letting these go a littler higher ratio on the amber side, really go for that couch-lock kind of high so I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to 4.
Waited a little too long to water. Trying to keep the soil dry as to not promote fungus gnats but should have checked them a day earlier. I think I will go back to every other day, just maybe cut back a little on the amount. Probably going to start just water after this week.
Sorry for the late update but here are pictures from 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately the tops in the middle are burnt. I raised the light by a good ten inches at this point thinking we'll see if they come back or not. I also noticed foxtails and the trichomes aren't where I want them to be as far as ratio of amber. I figured 2 more weeks to let the trichomes ripen and for them to fatten up.
These are the photos from last week. The very tops of the middle colas didn't come back and had started to dry out by this point but the trichomes are still not showing amber even on the tops that dried. I was thinking I would let them go one more week and then harvest regardless. As bummed about the tops as I am it has been opportunity for a preview for what is to come. It will definitely benefit from a curing but it is noticeably different high then the sativa strains from my last 2 grows. I'm going to harvest latter this afternoon.
I've thought this smelled more pine that diesel until tonight. Once I started to trim the buds I really could smell it. Curious to see what the dry weight will end up being. I'll update the dry weight next week.
Dry weight was 521 grams after one week drying. I will weight again in a week and call that the final weight.
