First paper towel, then coco coir, germinated in about 2 days, so soaked around 10/10/2020. Tied a knot on a stem about 5 days after germination. Don't know where it'll lead but I already have a bunch of plants like this. Probably might flower faster, though not sure, maybe I'm just stunning plants for no reason. Also, the lights are not 120W as pointed in the diary, I still plan to buy a new lamp and put them in veg, windowsill + led for now, that's why the stretch.
Week events! Moved the seedling from the kitchen into the small grow box that would work for veg and probably some tomatoes and greens, first light schedule was 'I woke up to pee and turned on the lights' and 'turn off when going to sleep' then 18/6 using timer socket. Plans are to either move to 12/12 or to repot into a slightly bigger pot soonish
Again, don't plant weed in a paper cups of volume less than 0.5 :-D
After repotting and giving some food the girl revigorated, day 4 was a sad day. The knot on the stem is not the reason for the stun, at least not the main one - I have a neighbor plant with a knot but that one was planted in a 0.5 plastic cup and didn't have that aweful stun.
Spots on the leaves at the end of the week again. It looks like it's too hot for her - the leaves are curling upwards, and water evaporates too fast so the salts are building up. That's my theory. She might be a bit more fragile than the indicas I have next to her.
Would try to be more careful with this one :-P At least she's fast to respond
GD should add "unintentional stress" as a growing technique 😄
She's still slow to develop! Nutrient burn, heat & light stress, and all thanks to me!
Cool that I'm starting to understand what exactly I did wrong from the way she looks, sad she has to suffer that much 😛
I'm thinking about repotting and switching to 12/12 next week. But my plans are flexible
Repotted on day 3 to save her, topped after 4th node on day 5, would keep in veg for some time since she stunned that much. Thinking of some variation of main-lining maybe...
This week - dog bites!
And some LST. Topping turned out to be FIMming, though done by hand so double surprize. I'm planning longer veg for this one. I guess I'll spread existing branches after bending down the stem. Let's see
So this week no injuries thankfully! 😄
Did some LST, trying to form a canopy.
So all seems fine. Tomatoes and the pepper in the background also feel good 😊
She will probably stay on veg for at least 3 or 4 weeks I suppose, no place in the flowering tent for her yet.
Mainly LST this week, watering sporadically. I popped another seed of this one and killed it so I plan to grow a smaller branch for cloning to compensate for the loss :-D
One of the plants in the flowering tent died so, on day 6, I moved this little lady to 12/12. I'm not super happy with the LST I've done and I start to losing hope in myself in terms of learning it all 😄
[OFFTOPIC] That plant died because I tied a knot on the stem and moved it too much, the poor thing basically unscrewed itself from its root zone by growing and tying the knot further and further. It looks like the size of the loop you have after tying plays a huge role in the final size of the plant. Since the loop was too small it started choking itself and it was also pretty compact and as a result, I have a tiny bush after 5 weeks of 12/12. It also had some male bananas and I've pollinated few buds around, so it's not a complete loss. And I took one branch for cloning, so hoping for monster-cropping. I'll start filling a new diary if it survives.
I have few plants like this around (this included) but I definitely decided to stop doing this stupid trick on the plants I plan on smoking at some point, and in general, I can advise you to do it for purposes of having fun only. I'm learning the hard way 😄
Forgot to take a picture on the first day of the week after moving into another tent. Habits, habits.
Pruned some smaller branches to avoid having too much of them. Failing LST again, I have an okayish scheme of actions with topping/stretching like with amnesia, but this time it's fucked up again. Let's see. At least it's not an autoflower! Ahah.
This is pre-flower, no pistils yet. I'm getting into the habit of being more honest with myself and counting flowering as it's supposed to be counted I guess :-D
Trying not to burn it :-) Removed the ties, not happy with the LST results at all. Cursing myself for being too greedy and planting too many seeds at once ahah
All seems well except that burns on the leaves, probably that's the signs of the week or two old fuckups, the solution was too salty for some time, might be that. She's a bit out of my interest for now since she doesn't need training already, and the buds are not so yummy yet and I find this stage of flowering pretty boring.
Moved her to the Critical Kush place, there's more light and more air, hoping that she'll grow a bit more on the sides that were in a shade. Tied the longest branch a bit so it won't poke the lights. All seem good. The nutrient solution is shitty, planning to change it completely this week
Removing another plant gives more space to this one and it's also more light, so all seem better, I'm also trying to watch solution saltyness this time since those burns are like scars on my heart ahah
The tops are burnt, lower buds are green and pistils are white. Not sure if it's burnt root zone damage or heat damage. Gotta call plant pathology anatomist on the harvest.
Hello, world!
Week 8 of real flowering or 9th of 12/12, all fine regarding feeding this time, but I've got another issue which is whiteflies infestation. :-P I'm picking plants or parts of the plants for cloning here and there and this is how I'm paying for it, oh yeah. I have some diatomaceous earth around but in general not sure that it would completely wipe them :-P Looking at them through the microscope was kinda fun though. Pale alien fuckers
Cut the rest on day 5. Found a couple of nanners here but they were closed and I didn't see any seeds on the buds so kinda safe with this one. One of the stress factors might be a minor light leak at the bottom area of the pots. Also training was kinda tough as you might see from the skeleton. As I mentioned in the comments already I reversed one of the clones and polinated a couple of neighbor plants. First time mating them, heh. Super excited
Aroma: slightly floral, doesn't smell like weed-weed
Taste: Sweet, tropical, sometimes sweet dough when vaped
Nugs are super hard, yield a lot of rosin
So few more fuck-ups this time - surviving the whole veg, then suffering overfeeding and colds and still yielded quite a lot pretty nice looking hard buds. I didn't weigh the harvest this time at all, I've got a small press and I'm a happy dabber now 😄 Sorry people.
@TheManicOrganicDK, that's odd, I only write here and there about plans to switch to 12/12 but never tag it as 12/12 from seed technique, I guess that's a growdiaries' search engine's issue
Man you seem to be growing all the strains I want to grow next lol.
Quick question it says in your diary they are on a 2.2EC but when I use 2.6 ml per L a b and 1 ml per L cal mag it gives me about 1.6 EC including cannazyme, is the bcuzz coco booster that strong it takes your EC up that much? Just wondering pal👍
Also what’s your favourite strain from barneys you have run so far? I see the watermelon zkittlez has just been released.
@bobtheblob, yeah you are spot on regards the rise in ph and I have raised my EC accordingly👍
I too am a fan of the chunk although I remember it wasn’t the most pleasant to trim or look wise but had a lovely flavour and high.
I still microdose even now so my tolerance is on the low side.
If you self that plant is should carry the characteristics of the plant but I usually tend to keep at least a single cut alive until I feel the need to run it again.
I am extra nervous of the pollen release contaminating my flowering chambers as I have had this happen before lol.
Real selection of new strains, that sour kosher will pack a punch, kosher was in the top 10 world strongest cannabis for many many years and I grew DNA’s chocolate kush which had kosher in and that was a knockout
@Esoteric_growing, thanks for sharing the apple/critical thing! I don't know shit in breeding yet and wonder if it disappears if I self those cuttings. :-D Missed the question about the Barney's strains - I've actually only tried a couple from them, I liked pineapple chunk besides the runtz muffin since it was giggly and euphoric, strawberry lemonade was super weird and not very potent as I said before. Critical previous time felt like an old-school dope, and I was super sleepy after smoking it, the smell of that pheno was more on the pine-like side. Tropicanna was picked because it was also being sold as sativa-giggly-high and that what I was looking for at that time :-) Oh and about a year ago I've grown gorilla skittles but the effects were almost like if you're tripping on shrooms with minor visuals. Though I've been microdosing at that time :-D I'm somewhat new to growing, about 5 years but had a small closet grow before, and now am super eager to try all the shit that exists on the market. I've popped a few more seeds recently and now it's sour kosher from dna seeds, white lemon from strain hunters, bubba kush from barney (sold out on their site but still in stock on zamnesia) and eleven roses from delicious seeds. Also bought a small rosin press sooo this 'hobby' is developing in multiple directions XD
P.S. Googled about the changes in PH and found at least one statement that it might be a sign that they can eat more. Though it was stated for hydroponics
@bobtheblob, yeah man I would also be a bit lazy with a little build up so your not alone lol. That was until I got my water vac as it makes my job of collecting the run off so much easier so it’s encouraged me to increase my run off amount. Weird though my run off ph seems to be going up to 6.4 even with about 20-30% run off.
I am really liking the sound of that apple pheno critical kush, I think it comes from the critical side as I had a critical from medical seeds when I lived in Spain I also called the apple pheno and was loved by all.
I have cuttings off two out of the four runtz but typically I wanted the two I didn’t have😂 especially what I called the purple gelato pheno but my pal just popped 6 seeds of runtz muffin so I will get a cut of each of those and hunt through them for a keeper.
I didn’t try and re veg as I had removed all the lower growth and was all decent size buds and nothing small or wispy buds to give myself a good chance to re veg.
Man there’s nothing wrong with a little obsession over these plants brother👍
Looks like the tops got a little warm and I still reckon that a ec of 2 is a little high.
But I really like the bud structure, that last pic looks absolute fire. Similar bud structure to two of my runtz pheno’s👊
@Esoteric_growing, well then you're number one person I'll send the seeds if everything will work out 😁 Seeds should be ready in 2 months or so if I won't fail in between steps
@bobtheblob, tropicanna x runtz hell yeah sounds great🔥
Man if the plants is liking it stick to it👍
I was going to say something else but i forgot as now I am just wondering about the runtz x tropicanna lol.
Nice grow brother and I look forward to your next update
@Esoteric_growing, yeah she always reminds me of your Runtzs :) About the current EC level - I feel like she actually can handle it, I have 5 clones next to her now and they didn't have that burn she had at the beginning of flowering and look kinda fine. I think I'll add some pictures next week, and might continue the diary after the harvest, I wasn't taking pictures of them so not sure if starting a new diary would make sense... Oh and I also reverted one clone and am planning to make some seeds for the first time :-D I wonder how tropicanna x runtz would look like ahah
@bobtheblob, I think the tropicanna is the pheno you want and probably have by the sound of it👍 I have never had a strong banana aroma from weed and not sure it I would like it lol
My last run of the single runtz cutting was better bud size and density but did not turn purple as much and doesn’t seem to smell as good but it’s still curing in the jars for another 2 weeks so hopefully it gets better. Maybe I should have let it run to 63 days instead of 58.
@Esoteric_growing, I was googling ancestors pictures and this one looks very much like Tropicana cookies, rosin also tastes tropical, with no weirdness. I'm drying the buds in a paper bag and it smells roasted garlic or something similar, so I thought it would taste weird but it's sweet. So taste/aroma also kinda good. Not Runtz though ahah. And no overripe bananas with this pheno for me
Lol I can replace about the burns, I did the same to mine last run and had to look at them for the remainder of the grow which wasn’t pleasant🙈
Also 2.4 in my opinion is still a very high EC even at this stage where I would normally have just gone past my peak EC levels. As a example the most I have ever needed to give a plant was around 1.8-2.0 in coco.
I would drop it down a touch just in case buddy, I tend to find the nutrient guides always seem to high with nearly all companies.
All looking good though buddy👍
@bobtheblob, those numbers are as you say usually with double ended 1000w gavitas with perfectly controlled rooms. Normally I don’t exceed 1.6 unless I see a specific need.
Always happy to add something if I feel it can help👍
@Esoteric_growing, yep that what I come to realize lately also. I think I might read some pointing 'using 1kW HPS lamps' and I was like okay maybe that's the reason the numbers are usually that high. And well of course they all need to sell more. Capitalism, yay. Thanks a lot for keeping an eye on this one! Always happy to read your comments 😊
I am still loving that bud structure you got going on man, wouldn’t worry too much about the white flies now as it’s close to harvest. I hate those little flying demons, quite difficult to eradicate at the best of times especially late in flower.
They decimated a grow I had in Spain and it was like a white fly breeding frenzy😂
@Esoteric_growing, the shitty part is that I've got a perpetual grow here and not sure I could disinfect the room properly, they lay eggs on the bottom side of the leaves on new growth and I don't want to cut all the girls right away. So thinking about going the opposite direction, leaving the box open for some time and inviting predators by doing so, and also to defoliate to remove the eggs and lower the humidity, they like it tropical as far as I can get... Oh, and I also tried to suck them with a vacuum cleaner 😆 An act of anger. Was it a greenhouse in Spain btw? About the Tropicanna - I also like the bud structure but not so excited with the smell, it's very subtle and mostly earthy to me now, I don't quite get it. Can't wait to taste it actually, was thinking about cutting one of those tops a couple of times
If it is a little too busy in there due to the amount of plants bunched together you could defoliate a little to allow better light penetration into the canopy.
Don’t worry man not all my lst goes according to plan, it’s all a learning curve brother👍 They look healthy though, in fact they look healthier than my second run of runtz which got shocked from the cold night lol
@Esoteric_growing, thanks for cheering me up :-D I'm on my way with cold shock, wifey likes to leave the window wide open since it's 'too humid' ahah. And instead of defoliation, I kicked the shit out of the neighbor plant.
@Esoteric_growing, thanks! But notice that this one might be affected by the knot I tied on it when it was a seedling (check germination week), so I'm a bit worried about her actually. I first did it when saw that some are putting a ring on a stem limiting its width and thus speeding up the flowering, then just for fun. Then I stopped :-D Now I know that it limits the size of the plant and can potentially kill it because by tightening the loop the plant starts to 'choking' itself, I've posted a pick of Kabul Express that unscrewed itself on week 9. So if this one will start looking dwarfy (expecting that) it is most likely because of the knot
The diatomaceous earth and a strong pesticide should do the trick. I normally use something Pyrethrum based like 5 EC which is organic and pretty strong stuff. If that doesn’t work I nuke them with plant vitality or dr schimmels mite terminator, both of those products are last ditch attempts as they do contain some aggressive compounds.
Introducing predator insects is a good move but I have little experience in that field.
Hopefully you have one of those strains where the smell really come out in the drying/curing, my runtz was quite like that
