Week 1: 10/27 - 11/02
Day 1 - Planted both directly in the coco. Gave each 45mL of room temp tap water which has a natural pH of 6.5 and 175ppm. Sprayed the inside of each dome and placed on top. Both were put under the light around 2:30pm and they be under the same 18/6 light schedule their entire lives due to the two blue dream photo periods I currently have vegging.
Day 2 - Today was transplant day for my Blue Dream photos and I ended up making a little too much coco/perlite mix. I decided to do a little experiment as this is my first autoflower grow and want to see the difference between the yield from a 3 gal pot vs a 1 gal pot along with using only my photoperiod nutrient mix. There's no Bloom Booster mixed into this initial pot of coco. I'll add it in with top dressing down the road, but for now I'm curious to see how this will turn out. I decided to go the paper towel method on this Cheese-Sus Christ autoflower from Mosca Seeds. My plan for this plant is to handle it like a photoperiod. I'm going to be transplanting, LST, and topping as she grows up. I'm very curious to see the difference between this method vs direct in substrate plants. While the seed is germinating in my dark closet, I saturated the 1 gal pot with my cell pot inserted in the middle. I'm doing this to create a mold in order for transplanting to be smoother. The area underneath the two humidity domes are still wet from yesterday. It's been 24h and I'm honestly surprised to see it still damp with each of them only getting 45mL. - PM update - Came back later tonight and it was dry enough for each to get another 15mL.
Day 3 - Cheese-Sus Christ has already germinated! Roughly 18h after placing the seed in the paper towel, I decided to took a peek in the AM and I could see the shell cracked just the tiniest amount with the tip of the root sticking through. 9h later and we have around 3/8" of root sticking out. I'll be planting this first thing tomorrow morning. I can tell she's going to be booming in no time! Gave the other two another 15mL and swapped out the humidity domes for an old clear drip tray. I'm thinking something thinner on top will help the water evaporate a little bit faster.
Day 4 - 9AM went to check the Cheese-Sus Christ seed and the root quadrupled in size overnight! Planted that baby right away. Still no signs from FW or BH but still hopeful. This is my first attempt at germinating directly in the medium vs the paper towel method. So far paper towel has been 100% success rate for me but I keep seeing people go direct and wanted to give it a try. 3PM update - Looks like Frosted Watermelon has germinated and is juuuuuuuuust starting to poke through the coco!! I'll get a picture posted later tonight when I do my picture rounds. Looking at you Blue Hindu >.> 11PM update - FW has her first leaves showin! Still looking at you Blue Hindu >.>
Day 5 - All it took was a little bit of shaming to make BH poke her beautiful head out of the coco. CSC is also in the process of popping and will have her first set of leaves out by tonight! We have 3 for 3 germination rate! Watered FW and BH with 25mL each. Hit CSC with 15mL.
Day 6 - Watered all in the morning - 30mL
Day 7 - They're thirsty! Upped all 3 to 45mL in the morning.
Week 1: 11/03 - 11/09
Day 8 - Watered each with 45mL in the morning. I'm noticing the 3 gal pots are drying out faster than the starter cell pot. I might up those two to 60mL to compensate.
Day 9 - Upped watering to 60mL in the morning for all three. FW is T H I R S T Y. I ended up giving her an extra 15mL around 9pm.
Day 10 - Continued 60mL for now. I raised the light today by 6". It was getting up to 84 degrees inside the tent with this heat wave hitting us. Now that it's not as hot, the 2nd watering for FW wasn't needed. Growth looks to be doubling each day for all 3 girls.
Day 11 - Upped FW and BH to 90mL. Keeping CSC at 60mL until it catches up.
Day 12 - Continued 90mL for FW and BH. CSC still getting 60mL. I noticed FW is showing some really odd colors in the leafs. Just going to keep an eye on it moving forward.
Day 13 - Continued 90mL for FW and BH. CSC still getting 60mL. I'll prop up CSC to 90mL tomorrow to match the others.
Day 14 - Gave all 3 their 90mL. Raised the light a bit in the tent. FW started prayin and the 2 photos I have in the tent started to show signs of heat/light stress. Maybe this is the reason for her to start turning? We had a heatwave this past week. I think I can go back to the normal height in a few days when the temps plummet again. Regardless... I learned FW does not like heat. BH and CSC don't seem to mind.
Week 2: 11/10 - 11/16
Day 15 - Watered all 3 girls 90mL. Raising the light helped FW. New growth looks healthy again. Original discoloration must have been light bleaching. No pictures today =/
Day 16 - CSC had some runoff which I'm trying to avoid. Looks like 90mL each morning is too much for her. Backed her off back to 60mL while FW and BH continued to get 90mL.
Day 17 - FW & BH = 90mL | CSC = 60mL
Day 18 - FW & BH = 90mL | CSC = 60mL
Day 19 - FW & BH = 90mL | CSC = 60mL
Day 20 - FW & BH = 90mL | CSC = 60mL. Looks like CSC has some roots starting to poke down through the bottom of the cell pot! I'm going to transplant in the morning to ensure she has enough time in her final pot. BH is getting huge compared to the others. Out of the three, BH was the only large yield strain. The other two are only a medium yield. It's showing! She'll be ready for LST in no time!
Day 21 - Transplant day! CSC is now in her 1 gal pot. I jostled the roots a bit to encourage outward growth and sprinkled 1 tbsp of mycorrhizae between the transplant hole and directly onto the roots before inserting her into the pot. I'll be holding off on water for CSC depending on how she looks tomorrow. Due to transplanting, I gave her 120mL of water beforehand so she held together. Once she was seated, I gave her another 90mL to saturate the rest of the pot. After seeing CSC's root structure, I decided to up the amount of water both FL & BH have been getting to 150mL. I think I'm going to start saturating the entire pot soon.
Week 3: 11/17 - 11/23
Day 22 - FW & BH got 180mL each. CSC got 120mL. CSC has some droopy leaves from the transplant which is why add she didn't get as much. I'm sure she'll bounce back tomorrow. BH is getting huge! I ended up tieing her down today. Bent her over all the way and 2 hours later, came back to her top node already responding and perking up. Gave her a 2nd tie down later in the day to direct the new growth around the outer edge of the pot. At this point, I'll be happy with whatever FW and CSC give me. All attention is on BH!
Day 23 - I noticed the first signs of pistils showing on FW already -.-
I found out sometime last week that my light timer was broken and my light wasn't turning off. FW was the front runner for best grower until that stunted her. Now she's an itty bitty girl.. BH on the other hand is growing like crazy!! I tied her down in the morning and almost decided to tie her down again at night after all the additional growth throughout the day. I'm starting to work her around the edge of the pot to maximize my footprint within the tent. CSC looks to be bouncing back from the transplant. Leaves are around 50% less droopy than they were yesterday. FW and BH got 180mL and CSC got 90mL.
Day 24 - I gave BH and FW each 1 L of water this morning to help saturate the pot. I'm going to keep giving them 1 L each day until I get runoff and then I'll back off to .75 L. I noticed CSC is starting to take hold in her new home with even less droopy leaves today than before. CSC got 150mL and I can tell she liked the water. The growth from her today is great! I'm 50/50 right now on if I should top her. I don't want to stress her too much and stunt her any more than I may have already.
Day 25 - I rotated BH to allow the lower nodes access to the higher PAR areas from my light. The lowest node exploded with growth and she's almost the same height as the canopy. I've been retieing her down each day and I think it'll do her good to go tomorrow completely untouched. I'll re-adjust the LST ties on Day 27. Continued the same watering schedule.
Day 26 - FW & BH watered 2 L to continue saturating the pot fully. Once I start getting heavy runoff, I'll back off. Did some LST on FW and CSC now that they're big enough. I didn't want to shock CSC too quickly after the transplant but her leaves kicked back so it was time.
Day 27 - Saturated the pots in the morning. Did some additional LST on CSC and BH... I had the BH stem level with the rest of the growth and I guess sometime when I was tightening the tie down.. the stem went a little too far and started to split. I made sure the tie down was secure enough not to budge at all and put her back in the tent to recover. I guess I won't be touching her for a day or two. I was planning on tying down the lower offshoots today as they're now starting to reach the same canopy height.. Guess that goes on the back burner for now. Yay for new grower mistakes! Learning a ton on what to do differently from this auto grow.
Day 28 - Saturated the pots in the morning. Decided to tie down the lower growth nodes on BH anyways. If the main node is donezo (yet to be determined) then I might as well make sure the rest of the plan is trained correctly. I snapped a closer pic of the split while I was training. It's much worse than I thought but at the same time, none of the growth above the split is showing any signs of stress. Very odd.. If it recovers, I'm going to love watching her repair herself from this huge split.
Week 4: 11/24 - 11/30
Day 29 - Saturated the pots in the morning.
Day 30 - Looks like FW and CSC are starting to flower with BH starting to have the first signs of pistils poking out. CSC is in the lead right now with the amount of pistils. Lessons learned for next time as all three are flowering earlier than I had hoped for and I believe my mistakes shocked them into an early flower.
Day 31 - Saturated each pot and got a little runoff. Thinking I'll need to reduce the water amount just a bit. Getting close to ammendment day. I hope it won't be too soon since I took forever in getting this entire pot wet.
Day 32 - Gave each their normal daily water and got heavy runoff. The RH had been in the mid 60s this week compared to the normal mood 50s. All 3 look droopy in PM. Will hold off water tomorrow. While I was cleaning up the runoff, I took a look at the split stem on BH. Holy crap! 3 days and she's already almost fully healed.
Day 33 - Already in the morning, all 3 look less droopy than they did the night before. No water today.
Day 34 - Did a light watering this morning. Slight runoff still. Looks like I'll be holding off again. Migraine tonight.. no pictures.
Day 35 - Held water and it looks like they're liking it. I discovered a slight problem in the tent with my photoperiod grow.. very first signs of white powdery mildew and fungus gnats. I'll be rearranging the tent tomorrow to help get better airflow.
Week 5: 12/01 - 12/07
Day 36 - Rearranged the tent to accomodate an oscillating tower fan for more air circulation. I did some very light topping on BH... or what I meant to be light topping... I took maybe 3 fan leaves and when I went for the 4th, I mistook a fan leaf stem for an entire branch. Yay! Whoops.. I feel like I've been typing this every week.. Lesson Learned. Did some light LST on BH to even out her canopy as well. I probably should have done the same to FW a week or two ago but I thought the one tie down would be enough as she was a "Medium Yield" seed. She's getting fairly tall.
Day 37 - Gave FW and BH around .5 L water and I didn't get any runoff. CSC got a full .25 L with just the slightest amount of runoff. BH looks less droopy from the clipping shock. She's coming back and I think she'll be back to normal tomorrow.
Day 38 - Held off water today to help with the runoff issue I'm getting. No runoff. Bad runoff!!
Day 39 - CSC is looking hungry. I'm getting on the end of the re-amendment cycle and probably should have done it sooner. The day got away from me with projects around the house and I never got around to it.. no water for the ladies today. Going to top dress first thing in the morning. All three look to be getting some really good trich production! I can't wait to see how frosty these ladies get come harvest day.
Day 40 - Amended the coco for all 3 girls this morning. Installed a trellis net for my photos so I'm going to utilize it on the autos as well. Did some tucking to help fill out their section of the net. Also added one more tie-down on FW to better LST one of the branches. Watered each to fully saturate their pots.. without any runoff!! Yay!
Day 41 - Gave them their normal water but I might need up increase it for BH. She's a heavy drinker and her pot is much dryer than the others. Clipped two leaves on BH and CSC that were blocking bud sites. No where to tuck so they got the clippers.
Day 42 - Watered their normal amount. No pictures today..
Week 6: 12/08 - 12/14
Day 43 - Watered their normal amount this morning.
Day 44 - Held off on watering today. They were all still a bit wet.
Day 45 - Held off again. Looks like tomorrow will be watering day.
Day 46 - Watered their normal amount this morning.
Day 47 - Watered their normal amount this morning.
Day 48 -
Day 49 -
Week 11: 01/12 - 01/18
Day 78 - FW & BH getting 1 L of water and CSC getting 0.3 L of water.
Day 79 - FW & BH getting 1 L of water and CSC getting 0.3 L of water.
Day 80 - FW & BH getting 1 L of water and CSC getting 0.3 L of water.
Day 81 - FW & BH getting 1 L of water and CSC getting 0.3 L of water.
Day 82 - FW & BH getting 1 L of water and CSC getting 0.3 L of water.
Day 83 - FW & BH getting 1 L of water and CSC getting 0.3 L of water.
Day 84 -
I'm holding off on the traits of the bud... I made the rookie mistake of growing multiple strains and when clipping and hanging to dry, I didn't separate the three strains. I thought I'd be able to notice a difference in bud structure but they were all similar. Once these are done curing in their jars, I might be able to come back and rate the smoke but I really won't know which of the three I'll be smoking. Oh well! Next time!
Easy growing. This was my experiment of the bunch by transplanting and only stopping at the 1 gallon pot. I definitely noticed a difference in yield between the three.
