Beatrix - a voyager, a traveller, blessed
There she is my new lady. Currently chilling in a glass of water :)
Beatrix wasted no time. I could see a taproot in less than 24 hours. Put her in a rapid rooter and planted the rapid rooter straight into her 5-gallon smart pot. Within 36 hours she started peeking out from the soil. In her first week she has grown to be 2 inches tall.
She's starting great. Feels like she's growing pretty fast - already working on her second node. She's 2 inches tall now and has stayed like that for most of the week.
Starting out week 2 of veg with another growth spurt. Keeping her on 24/0 until she's a bit more established. Still no nutes, still only distilled water.
I'm following a manifolding tutorial with Beatrix and when she reached her 5th node this week and was generally very healthy and vigorous it was time to top her. I topped her at the 3rd node, then removed everything below that node. I left the big fan leaves of the 3rd node to give her some extra power as the growth tips grow. As soon as they are big enough they'll get bent to a 90 degree angle.
She's not getting 20 hours of light and I have started her on the usual Fox Farm nutes.
What a sad week, almost lost poor Beatrix. I made mistakes training the new main colas and weakened them without realizing it. Then one morning the cat startled me, I moved when I should not have moved and one of the branches snapped clean off. It was totally detached. I tried to fix it with duct tape. A few hours later the whole plant began wilting. I was worried I was going to lose the entire plant. The next morning I gave up on the broken branch, and let her put all her energy into the rest...hoping she might recover. After a few days I saw a bit of new growth - she might make it after all.
Beatrix is on the mend. She's decided she wants to live and there's some new growth. It's not going to be a killer harvest with her but I'm gonna let her do her thing and see what happens. I owe it to her after almost killing her....
She's been doing really well this week. So good in fact I felt she was healthy enough to transplant her into her new 3-gallon pot. Then she handled that so well I actually started doing some LST on her. She definitely is the comeback queen!
Who would have thought? Beatrix is absolutely thriving. She's growing in leaps and bounds and is taking well to the LST I've been doing. Hard to believe that's the same plant that was close to death only 2 weeks ago.
Since I've decided to not do any fancy growing techniques on her but go a pure LST way I wanted to have some fun with it anyway. Also, I'm thinking about moving her into the same tent as her younger sister Chloé, so space is an issue. For those reasons, I've decided to try and LST her in a spiral shape.
Beatrix is doing very well. Training her into a spiral shape while fun turned out to be a lot of work. But she's responding well to it, so we'll keep going. It keeps her at a manageable size as well.
At this point, I'm just training her to stay relatively small so I can eventually put her in the same tent as Chloé. We're waiting for Chloé to be ready to be flipped - then they'll go into the same tent to flower together, otherwise I would have flipped Beatrix weeks ago.
We're already in week 11 of veg. I think her sister Chloé will need another two weeks before she can be flipped so Beatrix has to wait just a little bit longer. She's doing pretty great - very healthy and vigorous. By the end of the week, I stopped all LST. Since the flip to flower isn't too far off she can now grow upwards as much as she wants. I even moved the lights a bit further away (to 23 inches) to encourage her to stretch a little. I also built her a little support structure out of chopsticks which she seems to like a lot.
Completely free of any training Beatrix started growing vertically this week just like I wanted her to. She's very, very bushy so I think she'll get a haircut early next week which should then also be the last week of veg - her sister Chloé should be ready to be flipped by then.
Beatrix' last week of veg. We started the week by lollipopping her. On Thursday she got her end-of-veg flush and then on Friday before flipping to 12/12 she got another haircut, thinning out the top and getting rid of all the huge fan leaves. Now I can't wait to see what this girl does in flower!
Finally, it's Beatrix' first week of flower and she wasted absolutely no time at all. Within a couple of days I could see some pistils starting to form. She stretched a couple of inches and for the first time I could smell her just a little bit. Pretty happy with her so far! :)
Beatrix is doing amazing. She's healthy and stretching and sooooooo far ahead of her sister Chloé in flowering I'm shocked every time I look at them. It must be all that extra veg time she got. You can really see all those pistils and buds starting to form while Chloé has barely started on the pistils. Certainly interesting to see and I'm curious to find out what that means for total grow time and bud quality in the end.
Third week of flower and Beatrix is doing just fine. She's definitely starting to have a bit of a smell to her :) I can even see some frosting starting. Gave her one last big haircut this week - should be the last one.
Week 4 of flower. This is when things get pretty easy for me - nothing to do but water/feed her and watch her grow. Buds are growing great and there's definitely some nice frosting now. Very happy with her so far.
Week 5 of flower. Added another fan to the grow tent to hit her from below so that all buds get aired-out nicely. Definitely smelling her now - she has a very fruity smell right now that I like a lot. Other than that, nothing to do other than watching those buds grow.
Week 6 of flower. Very uneventful week again. Having that 3rd fan hitting them from below seems to agree with them. She's getting pretty frosty but not turning color yet. My guess is she'll need another 3 - 4 weeks
Week 7 of flower for Beatrix. Sneaky girl went and turned a bit orange on me while I wasn't looking ;) She's also super thirsty at this point - I have to water her every second day instead of the twice a week she usually got. Gave both her and her sister a little flush and now tuning the nutes way down for those last few weeks.
Week 8 of flower for Beatrix. I'm starting to think we're approaching the end here. Most pistils are curled up and orange. Looking at her with my jeweler's loupe I can see a bunch of amber trichomes as well. I'll keep a close eye on her this week but thinking it's not gonna take more than another week or two max. Getting excited!
Week 9 of flower for Beatrix. We're super close to the end now. She's doing fantastic. I'm thinking this is the second to last week. Gonna give her a few more days next week then chop her down that weekend. Buds are looking good, pistils are orange, and a good amount of trichomes are amber.
Week 10 of flower for Beatrix. Her last few days - and what a journey it has been. Almost dead at 4 weeks old and then made one hell of a comeback! These last few days her buds have bulked, a large part of trichomes turned amber and her leaves have started turning yellow. Thursday night I turned her lights off for the last time. She spent Friday and Saturday in the dark. Sunday is harvest day!
Good, old Beatrix really came through in the end. What a fighter she was. Almost died in week 4 and ended up gifting me 2oz of delicious flower in the end anyway. What a trooper! Reccomending this strain to all newbies - easy to grow with good results!
