Topped, tied down. Use safety pins on the fabric pots, and flexible plant ties to tie down the branches to those safety pins.
Got my 5x5 tent setup that week -- realized I wanted a second light to veg with.
Repotted the plants I plan to flower into 10 gallon fabric pots. Barely had any coco/perlite fall out as it was so rooted in the 3gallon fabric pot. Good amount of root mass stuck to the walls/bottom of the fabric pot. Wider pot will allow for wider LST in this case.
1000w HPS has arrived. Cool tube with large reflector, hooked up to a 6" AC infinity with carbon filter before light. Letting them fill up the space a bit before flipping to flower.
Continued to tie them down a few more days, then let them go vertically until ~24". Growth is insane in 10gallon pots under the HPS lighting.
Flipped on Sept 18th
GG plants have outgrown the blueberry vertically quite a bit. Had to raise that one up, and rearrange the tent a bit. Some stems are already getting floppy from the crazy stretch.
Had to stake between the coco and pot as there were too many floppy stems and as I move the plants around it was getting worse. Repurposed the ties used for LST to tie stems to each other/stakes for support. It's getting WILD in there.
All the stakes being used are 4ft length.
Runoff pH and EC was alarming. Pulled them all out to give a heavier feed in a deep tray for easy cleanup. Ended up being more work than I would have wanted as they're really getting some floppy stems after the stretch. Had to grab more stakes, and was tying stems for HOURS trying to get the plants to be somewhat evenly distributed and upright. Tallest cola is nearly 4ft from the coco.
They're packing on weight. Colas up to 2ft in length. Very pleased with what I'm seeing, although I think for future grows I will be looking for more indica heavy plants like the blueberry.
Nov 6: Day 49F by my count. This is my first grow in 5+ years, but I'm thinking we're 3 weeks away on the earliest plants, 5 weeks away on the slowest? Will very likely stagger harvest. Whichever comes down the earliest will go back in with the larfy shit underneath now open to ripen up until the last comes out. Did very little to no defoliation above the minor "lollipopping" I did do. My line of thought is that the leaves feed the plant, so the more foliage remains the better. Have two large fans in the tent, seems to be more than enough airflow. Only leaves that have been coming off for the past weeks are ones that have completely yellowed out at the bottom because the canopy is THICK, and not a lot of light hits the floor.
Also, no complaints about the frost on ANY of the GG#4 plants I have going. One of them I'm not too impressed with the pheno's yield, but the proof is in the smoke. Blueberry isn't the frostiest, but it's flowers are definitely chunky and I'm looking forward to the smoke. Nice colouring coming in too!
Day 51F :Anyone have thoughts on harvest timeline? I'm thinking 3 weeks on the blueberry, and 4-6 yet on the slowest of the GG#4. I plan to harvest the tops and put the undergrowth of the earlier plants back in until the slowest plant is completed.
Found a nanner early in the week on the blueberry plant. Sent me into a panic which has me working overtime in the tent plucking them. However the more I inspect the plants there's little sign of major pollination. Plenty of white calyxs shooting up still on the GG plants. There may be a few seeds but doesn't seem to be the end of the world this late into flowering cycle.
I'm going to continue inspecting the blueberry plant daily and plucking any nanners or suspected nanners. Will probably harvest ripest the tops of the plant next weekend.
I think the GG#4 plants have 2-5 weeks left to go. They're very sativa in structure imo. I'll probably harvest one plant per week, or even partial plants per week, then harvest the rest of the undergrowth of the plants when the last plant is ready. Will give each 7ish days hanging to dry in the closet, dry trim or just start the cure then trim later. Will stretch the time if the previous plant needs some extra time in dry, but it probably won't need to though, because I live in a pretty dry climate.
Since most of my week was spent worrying about nanners pollinating my tent, I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you do if you get nanners this late in flower. The opinions seem to be split 50/50/50 between kill it with fire/pluck & let it go/the fem seeds are a gift.
