11/5/2020, Day 0: I’m starting 2 auto Seedsman Blueberries that will live out their lives in the Aerogarden, and I’m using the Aerogarden to germinate a Jack the Ripper before replanting it in a cloth pot with regular potting soil. We’re heading into an unusually warm week after a cold spell, and I was excited to see that four of the ladybugs from the summer woke up and came out of hiding to bless the new tent. It should stay warm enough for them to still be active when there are leaves for them to hang out on, so hopefully they’ll wake up and come visit occasionally over the winter.

Nothing too big to note this week. I’m wondering why BB#2 came out with one of her first two leaves half brown, but she’s already stretching past her sisters, so I won’t worry about it too much.

Day 8 (Friday 11/13/2020): I need to figure out what causes Ph fluctuations. The water was perfect going in last week, but I checked it before changing it, and the Ph had gone all the way up to 7.2! Later on in the grow I assume the plants themselves affect the Ph, but I can’t imagine three little seedlings could alter things that much?? This week we’re starting out at 5.72 Ph / 473ppm. I added less FloraMicro than I have in my past 2 grows, since N toxicity seems to be a recurring problem. Day 9 (Saturday 11/14/2020) It’s getting really dry now that it’s cold out and the radiators are on. I’ve ordered a small humidifier. Day 10: (Sunday 11/15/2020): SO DRY. I keep misting the room with a spray bottle, but it doesn’t help much. And the Ph is up to 7 again! Added half a capful of Ph down. The ppm is down, so they got their nutrients at least. I’m adding a 1 gallon water reservoir, so hopefully keeping the water level steady will prevent the spike going forward. Day 14 (Thursday 11/19/20): the ph only went from 5.6 to 6, so the addition of the reservoir seems to have helped!

Grow Questions
OrihimeDelta
OrihimeDeltastarted grow question 4 years ago
What causes dramatic ph fluctuations in hydro conditions so early in the grow, and how can I mitigate it? I have hard water, so I know that’s part of the issue (I tried to install a RO system recently and failed miserably). Other than frequent testing & additives, what can I do?

Hi! You might need to add some pH buffers to the solution and I'm using potassium silicate (liquid silicon). Basically you need to have either strong acid and alkaline stuff to make the pH "stronger" and it wont change so much

Day 15 (Fri 11/20/20): The humidifier has been running for a day and it’s much better now! Humidity up to 50%. The Blueberries are really taking off! Day 17 (Sun 11/22/20): It was unusually springlike today, and 3 of my ladybug friends came out of hiding! I showed 2 the tent, but the 3rd evaded me. The Ph was a little low but still within range. There's a VERY noticeable difference in how large these are compared to how large my WW autos were at this stage, so I added an extra 1/2 tsp of FloraGro to give them a boost.

Day 22 (Fri 11/27/20): Yikes! The Ph really plummeted over the past 2 days! 5.5 down to 3.63. Ouch! I see yellow at the tips of the new growth. I'm assuming it's a result of the pH drop?? The starting Ph of the new tank is 5.8, and the ppm is 548. Day 23 (Sat 11/28/20): pH 6.14 at 3pm Day 24 (Sun 11/29/20): pH down to 5.64 at noon. Day 28 (Thurs 12/03/2020): Another crash! Down to 4.13. Brought it back up to 5.68. Tomorrow I'll make sure the ph is above 6 when I change the water.

I repeated the last week's nutrients in hopes of getting some more growth, since they aren't as bushy as I'd like. It could also be the strain, or the fact that there are two competing plants. There are a *lot* of roots in there. Happy, healthy roots, but a lot of them. The flowering has begun, like clockwork. Even if the plants aren't quite as bushy as my last grows, these flowers look very plush already, so hopefully they form a big cola. Day 35 (Thurs 12/10/2020): Hooray, I made it through the week without any severe pH crashes!

The flowers are certainly flowering! The bottom leaves haven't yellowed any further, and the burnt tips haven't spread, so keeping on top of the ph last week helped.

2/1 I’ve been taking photos but have been super lazy about updating, so I’ll have to go back and fill in the rest later. These are about done. Both BBs got crazy yellow until I stopped buffering the pH, then the yellowing slowed to a much more normal end of flowering level.

Jack the Ripper? 😶👻

@TheSyndicate, It’s the only sativa dominant hybrid I’ve ever loved. It was my go to in California, but it’s not available in shops where I am now. Fingers crossed that it’s as good as I remember!
