Germination

Lys3rc On 03.11.2020, I placed the 9 Shining Silver Haze seeds into the coconut substrate. Germination took place in the "propagation box" at around 80% humidity. The temperature fluctuates from about 25°C during the day to around 20°C at night, and I'm trying to keep it constant with a small heating mat and a heating cable. By 06.11.2020, the first sprouts were visible, illuminated by a roughly 80W LED lamp. After initial concerns, I'm happy to report that all the seeds have sprouted.

Lys3rc Today is the 7th day since my girls have seen the artificial light. I actually wanted to keep them in my "nursery box" for a while longer since I could keep the humidity here constant at 70% - 80%. But when I checked the pots today, I noticed some mold had spread. After a quick consultation with a gardening friend, I decided to repot the plants immediately. In the box, besides the lights, I have two heating mats connected to a Romberg thermostat and two 5W fans on a timer. The idea is to use this setup at night, with the fans for a "cool" temperature and stability, and during the day, with the heating mats, to ensure an appropriate temperature. This is the first time I'm working with such a setup. In the coming weeks, there will be quite a bit of adjustment needed to keep the temperature and humidity at the desired level. I might get a few more devices to keep the humidity constant.

Lys3rc After I was so happy that all 9 girls had germinated, I ended up drowning one plant during the first watering. I washed it out of the soil. Unfortunately, my attempt to prop it up and stabilize it failed. The other plants are mostly doing quite well. Some are growing strong, while others are taking their time. I think it's because the roots haven't reached the fertilized substrate yet. Also, since the time of repotting, I've had significant issues with humidity and heat development. At times, I was getting readings of under 30% RH and over 30°C box temperature. This led me to install a humidifier and a larger fan. I'm very satisfied with the results. The humidity now fluctuates between 50% and 60%, and the temperature has returned to the "ideal values." The lost plant will be replaced, despite the space gain, with a new Shining Silver Haze from Royal Queen Seeds. This time, the germination will take place in a glass of water. The germinated seed will then be placed directly into the final pot. I've had good results with this method in past grows. I also forgot to mention that one plant seems to have a genetic defect :D. It has no leaf pairs, but leaf triplets. My little mutant!

Lys3rc The girls are slowly developing strong leaves and stems. I think I will start to tie down the first plants (LST) in the next few days to promote the growth of the side shoots and get everything nice and even in height at the end. The climate in the box has remained quite constant at the beginning of the week. However, due to the high consumption of distilled water, I have decided not to use the humidifier for now. This has led to an increase in temperature of 2°C - 3°C and a decrease in humidity of 20%, which doesn't really make me happy. I think I will try to run the humidifier at a lower setting.

Lys3rc At the beginning of week 4, the plants were finally big enough for me to tie them down. This is the first time I'm doing LST (and accidentally HST on a couple of them). Actually, they've all developed quite well this week. The plants where the stems were accidentally torn have clearly fallen behind in growth. Now, a proportional problem is slowly developing in the box. I think I will send the plants into flowering in a week at the latest and stretch the net in the box. This way, I hope to distribute all the shoots evenly at the same height across the entire area.

Lys3rc Even though the plants are thriving, I can't send them into flowering just yet. I'm going to wait until they're 30 cm tall and the side branches have gotten a bit stronger. I hope next week will be the time!

Lys3rc All the plants are doing great. The stem that was broken in the 4th week (HST) has healed beautifully and has become almost twice as thick. I gradually lowered the light in the past week. From now on, the lamp will only shine for 12 hours.

Lys3rc This week I haven't had much time to document. Still, the girls are continuing to thrive. The buds are gradually getting bigger and the plants are still growing. Next week, I will start the first defoliation attempt.
