The seedling is breaking through the soil 48 hrs after planting it in the soil. I put the seed directly in the soil and didn’t germinate it before, so I’m really happy that it seemed to have worked out so far. This is my first grow and I’m not really expecting a lot of yield with my cheap setup, but it’s basically just a trial and learning process for me and I’m doing it for the sake of trying. I’m definitely going to give it my best try and looking forward to seeing it grow!

Day 2: It feels like you can actually watch her grow. That little girl doubled her size within the last 12 hours, she went from around 2 cm this morning to almost 4 cm in the evening. So far so good! I fed her some BioBizz ActiVera to hopefully help her grow strong and I added some BioBizz CalMag since I’m feeding her RO water. I ordered some BioBizz Root Juice to add to the mix in the future, so she will hopefully develop resistant and healthy roots and take up all the nutrients she needs.🌱💚 Day 3: She’s already 6 cm this evening. The leaves are starting to grow fast as well. Day 4: Now her friend, another Super Skunk Auto, that I had planted alongside her is showing up. She’s looking a bit red and odd - hopefully nothing to worry about? The first plant is looking good and healthy so far. She’s at 6 cm right now, let’s see how much she’s gonna stretch today. She also got her nutrient mix today: BioBizz ActiVera, CalMag and Root Juice. 🌱 Day 5: The little Super Skunk is growing so quickly now. Her bigger sister isn’t growing taller that much, but the leaves are really growing now. Day 6: Little Lady Skunk is at 6 cm now already, just like her bigger sister was after three days. The bigger lady is at 8.5 cm and she’s growing her leaves nicely. I’m going to transplant the smaller one into a separate and bigger pot in a few days. I guess I somehow didn’t expect both of the seeds to germinate, whatever reason for. First grow, maybe that’s why.

Day 7: the leaves have been growing like crazy. Lady #1 has been starting to grow her second pair of leaves. She’s now at ~9.5 cm. Lady #2 is really catching up quickly. She’s almost as tall as her older sister and her second pair of leaves is starting to show. Day 8: progress seems to be going really nice and steady. Height of lady #1 at ~10 cm today. Lady #2 at 8 cm today.

Week 3: Both of the plants have been growing nice and steadily, so I decided it was time for the little one to move out. I transplanted the smaller plant into a 10-liter pot for herself. At first she didn’t like the change at all, I guess I made some mistakes while transplanting her, and her growth was stunted for a few days but she recovered pretty quickly, luckily. I’m guessing the pH was off maybe. I ordered a pH-meter to avoid situations like these in the future and keep track of the pH of the soil and water. Plant number one was doing great, but she was showing small signs of nute burn, so I didn’t feed her as many nutrients this week. Intentionally I wanted to try out LST and/or topping, but since the light cycle was messed up once by an electricity cut I decided not to, she already started to show signs of preflower by end of week 3 and I really wanted to get her through more than anything.

Week 4: Both of the ladies are in preflower/flower now. The bigger one has been growing a lot in the last week, she almost doubled in height and I had to move the light up almost every day because she started to show a tiny bit of light burn on the leaves. She literally grew faster than I could move the light. But I moved my fan and both the light so that this will be prevented in the future. I added another two lights with 25 watts to buff the little flowers that are too far away from the light right now. Lady number two was growing very well too, and she showed signs of preflower by the end of week 4, I could see flower pistils coming in.

Week 5: Ooh, it’s starting to get frosty not only outside now, but also on my lady number one! ❄️❄️❄️ She’s been doing really well. I noticed a bit of nute burn again, so I decided to not feed her on the regular day, and just wait and see what happens. At first the new growth didn’t show any signs of nute burn, so I fed her late in the week with just a small dose (one drop of each nutrient lol). I guess I could’ve left it away, since the new growth then showed a bit of nute burn again. I think next week I’m not going to feed her nutrients and just give her water. Lady number two has outgrown lady number one in height now (60 cm vs. 53 cm) and even she’s in flower now.

Week 6: Everything’s been going smoothly. Lady #1 stopped growing in height at around 65 cm, she seems to be putting her energy into her flowers now. Lady #2 is still growing in height (😫) and she’s at almost 80 cm now. The buds are frosting up more, and I saw some frost building up on Lady #2 now too. I added BioBizz Top Max to their nutrient mix today, let’s see if they like that.

Week 7: Both of the ladies are building their buds now. On Lady #1 (I called her Flower like the skunk in Bambi) the flower pistols are already starting to turn an amber color. Lady #2 has been growing taller still, she’s at about 3 feet now. Hopefully she’s gonna invest just as much energy into getting fat buds.

Week 8: My girl Flower (Lady #1) is getting thicker by the day. I feel like there’s more trichomes popping up every day. I’ve been monitoring the trichomes since this week with a jewelers loupe. I know, it’s very early but since this is my first grow I felt like it would help to keep track from an early stage so I can make sure to see the difference when they get cloudy to catch my perfect timing for the harvest. Lady #2 has been working on her buds this week. Luckily no more growing taller so far! Since I gave my Lady #1 a skunk-related name (Flower like the skunk in Bambi), I felt it was just right to give Lady #2 a nice skunk name as well and called her Anansie (Yep, Skunk Anansie).

Week 9: It’s going so well! Apart from my little Flower smelling like a bag of diapers when you go and smell on her buds, it’s a really great plant! Anansie smells a lot more pleasant, like a mix of pine and citrus scents. It’s incredible how different these two ladies are, even though it’s the same strain from the same breeder. Always fascinating to me. The buds have been growing in size, actually they made such nice progress that I was able to make a comparison picture on Flower. Anansie is going to be the queen here though, I’m sure her buds will easily outgrow those of Flower in a matter of a few weeks. Those three additional 25W LEDs I set up to bring light to the lower buds seems to be working great as well. I feel like even the lower buds are just in the same stage of development as the higher ones. I also did quite some defoliation to open up the space the light can touch.

Week 10: We just started into Week 10 and it’s looking really great. The buds are fattening up, the pistils are turning an amber color on both plants and the frostiness is insane! I’m already excited about the amount of trichomes on both of my beauties, I hope this is gonna be an amazing smoke after drying and curing. As to the size of the buds we’re not even close at all yet to harvesting size and think she’s gonna need another month maybe, depending on the progress in the next two weeks. Flower is showing some nute burn so I’m not gonna feed her any nutrients this week. The trichomes on Anansie are already pretty cloudy. I kind of predicted she was gonna outgrow her sister, but I didn’t expect her to be that much faster. There’s still a lot of white flower pistils on her and she’s really been getting fatter over the last few days.

Week 11: The trichomes are getting clear. I had a bit of a temperature drop (-2 degrees Celsius) and it’s showing on the plants, the stems are turning red and some of the leaves are too. As far as progress it’s looking great though. I uploaded a 4-week-comparison of my oldest girl Flower, and I love those because you can actually see how much she’s been developing.

Week 12: Flower is showing some amber trichomes already. So far it’s not many, but I figured I should start flushing now because there could be more trichomes turning amber anytime over night. Anansie has mostly milky trichomes now, and since we’re already at it, she’s getting the flush too. I had a more or less involuntary smoking test this week, one of the tiny lower buds broke off after I accidentally bent it with my pants (still wondering how) and it was already pleasant, so let’s see how the rest of the plant will be after harvesting. I think Flower might get the chop next weekend, depending on how many more trichomes turn amber. Anansie has a lot more potential. I think Flower has been a bit stunted from the nute burn and temperature drop, so she won’t be giving much yield. Anansie has way more and bigger buds already, and she’s barely showing amber trichomes yet so she might fatten up quite a bit until the time she’s ready to harvest. I’m sure it won’t be too much yield either, but it’s my first and I’ll be glad if I can get it through all the processes without anything going majorly wrong in the first place, and as long as I’ll get some smokes out of it, it’s fine :) Next time I’ll have quite some more experience.

Week 13. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!

It was time for parts of my two plants to be harvested. Since the top buds were already getting amber trichomes while the lower buds were still clear turning to milky I decided to let the rest of the plants stay. So here’s a partial harvest report: The plants were pretty easy to grow, but since it was my first grow I made some mistakes on the way. The girls were pretty forgiving, but eventually the outcome is rather small. I didn’t do any training on any of my plants and just let them grow straight up, so the yield could’ve been much more. All in all I’m pretty satisfied with the result of my first grow, I successfully brought both plants through flower phase and my first few buds are dried and the smoke is nice, I really like the piney/citrus taste, it’s very spicy and I’m looking forward to trying out a few cured buds soon. I put a few buds in an airtight container with Boveda packs to cure and will update the diary after a test smoke a few weeks into curing.

For my first grow the girls made it quite easy for me. I recommend this strain for beginners, my ladies both have been very forgiving with all the mistakes I made and still produced a few yummy buds. If you can, try LST or other training methods, as I now regret that I haven’t done anything to maximize my yield. All in all it took longer than expected, I probably skipped one or two weeks on here, but apart from the girls fattening up nothing special happened within the last two weeks of my grow. I hope leaving part of the plants over in the pot won’t stress them out a lot and they hopefully will develop within the next few weeks so I can complete my dairy.
