TheBudWhisperer Week 1 of veg. - they’re all up and on the grow (save the lava freeze which is being a stubborn bitch). Kinda surprising how robust the 707 and Skywalker are so let’s hope they keep it up 👍. Background This has been coming for awhile and I even killed half an auto cycle just to finally get to it. A 5 strain, 14 plant micro run. All done in 1 gallon smart pots. I’ve got a sprinkle of fast flower gems (shout out to BudXs for that FB Tester👊) and some of a prized outdoor grow from 2019 that happened to catch a little pregos and yielded a small amount of seed. All of the 707 were males as was all but one (the shittiest that was never transplanted) of the Skywalkers. Pulled out all but 1 of each while we await the maturity of the pollen sacks. TheBudWhisperer Week 5 update - big changes this week. We started off with the culling. Every single one was a male except the runty og in the solo cup (figures). No matter - we got our 2 winner males in the 707 and Skywalker so alls good👍. The sherbet and the FFT5 have really come on in the last week and we had to segregate em into the small cab with the auto. Not ideal and cramped confines. If they were about to flower in the big cab then they appear to have ran back to veg. At least for the FFT5, the Sherbet has me wondering still🤔. The runty female stays with the males and she can act as the sacrificial lamb for some early seed. I’ve been painting on some of the OG pollen as we trim away the mature branches. The Skywalker has gone off first and we’ve been trimm’n er down piece by piece, shake’n out each branch thats showing a lot of maturity and pollen drop. Wish I could say I’ve discovered a secret method to this process because it’s a tedious pain in the ass. You essentially just shake out the burst pollen sacks onto the foil to collect it for later use. I’m pretty gentle and very deliberate about this process and try to keep as much of what I’m doing in the cabinet as possible. The reason is 2-fold: I’m trying to collect as much as I can while at the same time trying not to float pollen all over the basement. The goal is to be as clean as possible too so everything gets a wipe down and the flowering cabinet doesn’t get touched for at least 12 hours. Anyway, once we’ve got our pollen you wanna pick out the seed pods and any leaf matter as much as possible, then take ur foil and put a crease in it. Then get the smallest fucking baggy you managed to find and get all that powdery gizz in there. If you did what I did... good luck with that. I store the baggy along with a piece cardboard in a Tupperware container in the freezer. Good to go for the spring/summer👍. Stay tuned - 707s coming up quick. TheBudWhisperer Week 6 update - 3rd week of sack squelching for this girl and it’s the motherload we’ve been waiting for. Took ‘er down in full and knocked off all the pollen we could. A couple more days waiting could’ve yielded a bunch more probably but we’ve got more than enough. We cut a slit out of some paper plates to assist with collection as well. Every little bit the plates catch goes to the total and It helps to catch the falling seed pods too. Per the photos I split the bulk of the pollen from the pods and leaf matter but keep both just to have the pods as a last resort. Doubt we’ll ever need em but you never know. Also topped the Sherbet and FFT5. They gone back to veg. And once the big cabinet is fully bleached and cleaned well transplant to 3gals amd flower em out proper👍. The runt will be lucky to produce any seed of consequence - kinda just let that poor thing bind out in the solo cup. Well see. Either way - first leg of the race is almost over. TheBudWhisperer Well, opened up the cabinet last night and this one practically fell out of it. Just too tall for the mini 1gal. pot now. Over the last day she totally went off and we were able to collect a lot more than the skywalker. I wanted more photos of this but it was a helluva lot more important to get the plant torn down and the cabinet locked back up so that we weren’t spewing pollen everywhere. We still have the Herz OG flowering out in very close proximity and it would be preferable not to see a grow this gorgeous destroyed. Hard to say yet - this shit will get everywhere so accidental pollination remains a definite possibility. Well give the cabinet another 24 hours to let the pollen dust settle and then start carefully removing the fans and drainage pans for cleaning. Gonna have to wash the filter and give the grow light a solid wipe down too. Mission pollen collection is now complete and the focus shifts to the FFT5 and the Sherbet fems. We should be able to flower em out before spring seedling season is in full swing. A little extra stock of flower in the deep freeze of a Canadian winter😎. Next on the breeding sched. Is gonna be running both strains back against themselves. I normally wouldn’t waste time on backcrossing an already stabilized strain but we need more seeds for the pheno hunt when it comes time to select the winning hybrid cross combo. TheBudWhisperer Week 6 and the official first week of flower for the FFT5 and the Sherbet. As you can see we’ve undertaken a full cabinet overhaul after the 707 and Skywalker dropped their pollen. Bleached, washed and cleaned absolutely everything. These girls have now been topped, up-potted to 3gals, lst’d and put on the flower back where they belong. We’re really happy about this - they should finish up before spring germ. Season and they both deserved the extra space and larger pots during the flower cycle. Should be a nice thing to see after having to waste so much space and time on the pollen hunt. It was definitely worth it though and we even got an extra perk in that the runty female Skywalker took pollen on all buds from her male counterpart. She’s putting out seed pods like mad and these should be the first iteration of our now preserved SOG genetics.👍😎👍😎. We’ll hold on to these for the future and use a few to source a solid female for selfing on an upcoming cycle. After that its all a pheno hunt for that dreamy polyhybrid cross we’re look’n for👌. The FFT5 is showing some leaf deformity - not surprising as a tester strain - she’s expected to be a little unrefined. The Sherbet is gorgeous all around. TheBudWhisperer Week 8 update - alls good. They started showing a little paleness earlier in the week so we amped up the bloom nutes a touch. Also started mixing in some terpinator. Haven’t yet really benchmarked it’s usefulness (if any) but hopefully it’ll contribute to better terp. Production. The FFT5 is growing pretty strangely and she’s generally droopy unless you’ve caught er right after a feed. That said, she’s still stack’n nicely so all good there. The sherbet is gonna be a pretty plant I think, the profile and stability of the strain seem flawless and she’s very easy to diagnose when needing something more. Textbook👌. The runt is doing its thing. True to the Skywalker genetics this thing is so ridiculously nitrogen deficient. For some reason this strain just can’t get enough from about mid-flower to harvest🤷. We’ll figure out how to supplement that some how on the next run. Don’t really care - we’ve probably got mature seeds already and even trichs are forming out on this pregnant little lady. TheBudWhisperer Week 9 update - we’re lurch’n outta the stretch this week (I think) and the results of last weeks changes are now paying their dividends. The FFT5 is much happier now with the additional nutes and seems to have stabilized a bit moving into full flower. The Sherbet has some serious legs and I can already see the beginnings of two 16”+ long colas👌😎👌. She’s also look’n better on the increased nute ratio. Not to say they need a ton - more me correcting for too low a dosage. The Runt is the little plant that could - it’s really just a matter of crossing the fingers, filling the water tray as often as we can, and hoping she’s got enough leaves left to feed that insatiable nitrogen appetite🤞😬🤞. She’ll probably get to the end and we should have more than enough seed by now regardless. If there’s one trait that I’ll try to pull out of the F1 generation once I cross it, it’ll definitely be this nitro issue.... if even possible. I’ll live with it if I have to but, would prefer to see the trait disappear in future beans if possible. TheBudWhisperer Week, uhhh, whatever... of flower and alls coasting to the finish nicely. The runt has managed to stay alive long enough that she should produce more than enough viable seed for the foreseeable future👍. That’s pretty sweet as Skywalker is a genetic I’m happy to keep around on a bi-annual basis or more😋. The Sherbet is looking phenomenal. She’ll be an easy trim too. She’s airy and she’s got some massive colas stacking with some decent frost now. The FFT5 is similar and throwing off a crazy scent now too. She’s been a little finicky and definitely needed another solid pruning - lots of dense foliage. Hate to say it, but we’re anxiously awaiting the finish on these. Got the spring starts coming up quick and I’ve also been putting some significant time into getting a new recirculating Dutch system set up in a new grow space. TheBudWhisperer Week 11 update - both are looking fantastic following week 5 of flower. Frosting out nicely and the sherbet is showing some nice early colours thanks to this cold Canadian basement 🤟🇨🇦. The runt is essentially done - seeds are starting to burst out so we’ll probably snip er this week and let er dry out before counting our fresh stash of OG goodness. TheBudWhisperer End of week 6 of flower and alls well wait’n on the finish. The FFT5 is a cluster of buds at its center and somewhat dense in terms of foliage. The Sherbet is light and airy but if she swells up some more over the last couple weeks she’ll be a monster👍. Both are sativa leaning. Really just trying to get through this run as quick as possible. Already got a new auto run in the works and spring seeding is beginning this week so real estate will be at a premium shortly. Always nice to add more selection to the stash but our variety is starting to get a little ridiculous. We’ve get more choice in the cupboard than most dispensaries😉😎👍😎. TheBudWhisperer End of flower week 7 and we’re coming into the home stretch for the sherbet. She’s starting to purple out as well and has some gorgeous colours showing🤩. The FFT5 looks like it’s a week or so behind and expect this one to finish out last. The frost on the sherbet is awesome and she’s got a really mild and very sweet scent to ‘er. The FFT5 is still a little lacking the trich. Department but the smell is a skunky, strong diesel which screams goodness👌. Looks like we’ll finish just in time for the next round of spring seed starts so alls going to plan👍. She’ll finish after the sherbet but shouldn’t be much longer after. The sherbet is still colouring out as well and trichs are rolling to cloudy but no sign of any Amber yet. TheBudWhisperer End of week 9 on the flower and they still ain’t done. I figured we were days and neither has turned over as quickly as originally thought. Either way, probably for the best - gave us a few days to put em on the flush and clear out the medium. Still think the sherbet goes off first and she’s purpled out into a wild fruity dream. The FFT5 is just a straight freak show. Still can’t believe this plant turned in to what it did (shoutout to @BudXs on the bean loan👊). She’s been a pleasant surprise the whole way through. TheBudWhisperer That about does it for the straggler females from the first pollen chuck. The upcoming season will likely be our last bunch of breeder cycles for the next year or so. Assuming all goes to plan, we’re hoping to have a full 20 plant run of brand new FP1 crosses to test grow for future stability. A whole range of new strains under the BW flag and this run was where it all started👍. Stay lit and seeya on the next one y’all👊.
