Another week in the books! I'm thinking I'll finally flip these gals next weekend or the following. I just want a little more length on the small plant.
So, earlier on Wednesday I gave the gals a nice trim. I cut off all the bigger fan leaves and the smaller stuff that was on the bottom, that wasnt getting much light. The next morning I gave the girls a light watering. It had only been 3 days since last watering so the soil wasnt dry but I wanted to hit them with some kelp/molasses water to try to park then back up. They really responded well. Within a few days they were bushy and full of leaves again. Today (5 days after previous defoliation) I decided to give the girls another heavy supercropping. I worked all the branches until they were soft and flexible. This was a good way for me to see how much the plants had grown since last supercropping. The branches that I supercropped last week were now had and stiff so I only worked with the new growth. I can see how supercropping will be helpful later in flower with the branches grow buds and become heavier. Places that aren't supercropped will be saggy, while the supercropped branches will be tough like a tree. It may extend veg a little bit but I'll definitely be doing this again in future grows. Next time I'll be more cautious with the stiff branches tho. I broke a few off this time in accident. In the end 1 spot looks like it will split into 2 tops and the other spots were just small branches coming off other branches, not the main stalk. I plan to lollipop these girls about 2 weeks into flower so I would prolly remove them anyways.
The pics from this week are after supercropping and defoliating today. They were much bushier before. I'm planning to leave them alone this week as much as possible, maybe some light LST as bud sites grow upwards. I'll do 1 more defoliation a few days before flipping to flower and see how that goes.
A couple days ago I also changed my tower fan with a new box fan. The tower fan had a bright blue light in it so it was gonna fuck with my 12/12 I think. I think I had the fan too low for the 1st day and now it looks like some of the new growth got a little "wind burn." Nothing crazy but since then I raised the fan above the canopy and it seems to be working better. I thought the fan was weak enough to give them a direct breeze but the plant that was closer to the fan didnt seem to like it. Even with the fan above the canopy the leaves are still moving a little when I close the tent.
This following week I'm planning to give the girls their first compost tea too. I'm currently growing some mold in a container with compost in it. According to teaming with microbes this makes "fungal dominant" compost which is good for bloom. Basically its damp compost with some oat flour (chopped oats) kelp meal and mykos. I'll let's that sits in a drawer in my room for 3-4 days. At that point there should be some white mold growing on top of the compost. This is the good shit I guess. I've also collected some egg shells, banana peels, coffee grounds, potato peels, coffee soaked paper tower (no ink on them) and weed leaves. I put 3 banana peels in quart size Mason jars and poured boiling water to fill the jars. That's been sitting for a couple days and I'll be using the water to make compost tea once my fungal compost is done. The rest of the food scraps were cooked in the oven for a few hours until the coffee and banana peels with dry. Then I put all that into my food processor and mixed in some mykos, kelp meal and fish bone meal to make it into a powdery meal. I'm planning to top dress with this before watering with my tea. This should be a make for a big meal that will help set the girls up for a good stretch once I flip to 12/12.
@GuerrillaNo_4, yeah I was given some oversized clones so I pretty much started training s couple days after I got them home and transplanted them. I figured if I was gonna mess up and break/kill branches I better learn early on so they have time to recover lol. I wasnt sure how well they would respond but it's nice to hear that it should help in the long run.
