Nutrients
The StarterBox is definitely not recommended for first time growers. First, it is super dis-balanced, feels like they just want to hook you up to buy more of their expensive stuff, because secondly, you have no idea what you are using there. So for me it is a dishonest overpriced product (probably one of many thou) SuperVit is super crap, batshit expensive and you don't know what it does, if anything at all PowerZyme is okay I guess, at least you will know whats in it -> Trichoderma viride Root Complex has so many things in it which actually are already in the basic formula, that you will have no idea why you would use it, my guess are some extra amino acids & enzymes, which you probably get only fractions of Boost - Hands off this weird stuff, label says absolutely nothing about the content WTF... Hydro Growth, Hydro Bloom and PK 13-14 are basic fertilizer, probably all you will actually need for your first grow, forget about other stuff - Yet they are pricey and I am reluctant to actually recommend them Especially as PK 13-14 basically is just dissolved MKP (monopotassium phosphate) a kilogram of it costs around 4-5€ and will make 5 liters of PK 13-14

It was my first time growing, so I made many mistakes, but she managed to stay alive. I got surprised by how big she got that gave me some headaches among her drying out over time, probably because of light/heat stress. Having a big plant like that and also being auto flowering was overwhelming at times, as there is little one can do to keep the plant in check. So for beginners I'd rather recommend either a photoperiod or if it needs to be auto-flowering rather take a (or some) smaller auto like my Pink Kush grows, they are easier to handle. In the end I got rewarded with a decent harvest thou.

Top him or not? It's my first time grow ever, so would you say it is advisable to do that and when is a good time to do so?

If it is a photoperiod topping is ideal. If it is a autoflower just do lst. If growing in coco coir add perlite to mix. Also have calmag available. Probably due for a bigger planter looks like soon. Good luck and happy growing. Would wait on doing anything till it perks up. 🌲🌲👊

My two tiny plants have access to 100 liters of water with nutrients added according to the schedule of the producer (Hesi). But the ratio of water to plants is very different comparing to smaller scaled hydroponics. Is there a rule of thumb or such?

Yes the plants use nutrients that are in the water to Grow. But there is no direct correlation between what you "feed" and what they "eat"... Like it's not like Feeding animals were you have know there gobbling up all there kibble and you can see the end results.. Growing has multiple variables.. And plants start small and grow bigger.. As they grow the need for Nutrients and water grows proportionately but the need for water is a huge part of what makes plants grow.. Iv'e seen other say things' like too much water.. But how can too much water be the issue when people are growing in Water(hydroponics).. Water is never the issue unless your water is "bad" to begin with .. Water is such a crucial part of the whole process and what lights you use and where you hang them has the biggest impacts on what you actually yield. Nutrients are a part of it sure.. But Water and Light are the biggest X factors.

Those solutions (like Hesi Hydro Growth) seem to be ridiculously overpriced, like 10€ for 1 liter fertilizer solution which consists of mostly water itself is a total ripoff in my understanding. Is there a substitute for those heavily overpriced nutrient solutions?

Sure, I am growing them myself to have a cheap and reliable source of clean herbs, besides proofing that I am able to. So being able to produce as cheap as possible is just another proof of proficiency. I have checked the bottle label, it says 2.6% N, 1.9% P and 3.6% K plus some further elements. It surely is quality fertilizer but yet again massively overpriced, the same goes to other brands too. We are talking like 10 cents worth of base materials per liter or so and it's far away from the complexity of a car, just have a look at the number of people of Hesi, it's extended family lol. So, did anyone mix it themselves or at least found a much cheaper solution than buying those pseudo cannabis mixes? PS: You can grow plants in aquaponics with more or less fish poo, no need for getting a degree in something

so did you harvest?
TheNewNoobOnTheBlock
TheNewNoobOnTheBlock
@420baby, not yet, seems as it will take a while longer, but also will be limited by the drying out of the plant, maybe that is gonna be the limiting factor 😅

Facing the same issue with my plant as well, early it was nutrient burn, later after flush even after providing nutes, cal/mag, it still continues.

@420baby, Good to see it's not just my misdoing 😅 It all started with me trying some defoliation and going up with the nutes. I gonna leave it be for now, I am sure she will survive anyways ^^ Good luck with your grow bro 💪
