Seeds are starting to show. Also have been collecting pollen and refrigerating so I can cross this strain with a future strain.

Grow Questions

Anyone know if there is an industry standard to grading seeds? I have harvested femenized seeds of various sizes, shapes, colors, and condition (see my grow diary). Probably going to try and sprout some of the worst seeds just to see which are garbage or not.

Commercial seed sorting is done by dropping seed past an air jet and any light weight ones that blow away are deemed "unworthy" as indicated by their lightness. All "full" and heavy seeds pass through the air jet and fall into collection tubs and are deemed "saleable". Seeds are usually harvested a certain amount of days from/after pollination or after manual examination and usually a combination of both. In my own breeding experiments, winnowing on a windy day is good for getting rid of light weight and unviable seeds. As to determining if seed quality relates to plant quality, it seems there are no connections. As long as a seed germinates and sprouts, the resulting plant that emerges can be just as high quality as one coming from a light coloured seed or dark seed. It is confidence inspiring to plant the biggest and darkest seeds first, however, there is no guarantee of dark seed = good plant. I usually use the lighter coloured seeds for germination tests. Doing side by side tests with light coloured seeds against darker ones from the same plant, I have generally achieved identical germination percentages, with 99% being common with fresh seeds. White and/or greenish seeds are definitely no good, but anything from light brown to black are good. Using pollen from hermaphroditic females will not be feminised, but regular seeds that when in flower will have genetic dominance to being hermaphrodite plants themselves. Feminised seeds are created with chemical manipulation, or can occur if pollen is collected from stamens/bananas which have appeared on female plants very late in flowering and very sparsely, perhaps 10 or so on the entire plant, that is, one or two stamen per flower and maybe only half a dozen flowers on the entire plant. Any male flowers that appear in bunches and at multiple sites, these are the text book definition of hermaphrodite. Remember too, when it comes to using your own seeds, don't use all the best ones first, keep some better seeds for future plantings. Hope this helps,.......... Organoman.

It's drying now. Already plucked about 50 seeds from a few buds and have many more - probably hundreds. Also collected pollen and storing in the freezer.

Nice, never even seen anything like that before, I'm curious how it goes!

@420Coder, Always thought it was super cool as well, I was looking at just purchasing Colloidal Silver as its not too expensive and somehow I think I would mess up trying to make Iodized Silver myself. All The best, will be watching to see how it turns out for you.

@NotusLotus, same. We will all learn from my success or failure.

Plenty of seeds emerging. I'm not sure what constitutes a big harvest when the goal is to collect seeds, but I'm glad I didn't stop this experiment prematurely. I was very close to doing just that. Seeds showing are normal sized seeds and hard, just green still. When they turn brownish or start dropping on their own, I'm going to cut, dry, and call this grow done.

@420Coder, that's not overdoing it at all... steaming it also works & that's actually industry standard

@CRiSPrGrow, appreciate the feedback. I was very diligent about spreading the pollen around. I didn't have other plants I didn't want seeds in the tent, so I could be rather reckless with the pollen. Going to bleach clean the tent before my next grow LOL. Make sure there isn't any lingering pollen.

@420Coder, yeah man congrats, a lot of growers i know when they do seeds, they'll make between 6-18 a plant, and that's a lot to them. needless to say you've blown them out the water.

If you don't get seeds I suspect it is because you didn't start spraying during veg. I have had success spraying for two weeks before flip to 12/12 and then for two more weeks. By that point pollen sacks were clearly forming May kick this off tonight in my current journal as I ended up with no males and wanted to get some seeds (and luckily have a couple clones) Also, I will be sacrificing whole clone and discarding dirt. Buds from plant may be OK but would rather just get more seeds and get clean buds from untreated clones. Also means you can harvest seeds few weeks early if you need the room (4-5 weeks needed to complete development) Just saw your latest comment that you may get seeds that's great. If they are small/pale/soft then probably again due to pollen appearing late in process, but sounds like you have good shot since you aren't in a hurry to harvest. Good luck!

@BonyMountain, appreciate the feedback! I can happily report seeds are starting to show. I'm not sure this will be a huge success (will post seed count after I harvest). As you pointed out I started a couple weeks late. Next time will be easier because I collected pollen and won't need to wait for pollen sacs to emerge and do the job next time. Assuming I try this in the next year again. Not sure how long the pollen will keep, but it's going into the freezer when I am done collecting. As are the seeds. Hopefully that keeps both viable for much longer.

I'm now optimistic that we will get some seeds from this grow. Posted new pics. Have male flowers, nanners, and signs of hermies on both plants.

So far this is looking like a fail. No signs of pollen sacks or any other make attributes. 25ppm ionic silver that I made and applied every morning and evening hasn't worked. I'll be cutting in about 15 days if no success by then. Yield is just ok. But I wasn't trying for a big yield anyways. Was trying for seeds.
