Day 8 - This is my very first grow! So if you want to watch a person struggle, you've come to the right place. There has been so much to learn. I'm using a blurple light right now which I learned is not ideal, I have an HLG 600w Rspec LED on the way that will replace it. I also started with pots that had no drainage. I've since poked holes in the pots and that has helped. This marks one week the GG4 has been sprouted. I started germinating the wedding cake almost a week after the gg4 so it is behind. 2/3 wedding cakes starting to pop out of soil. Soil is Roots Organics formula 707. I'm currently using no additional nutrients. Day 9 - I finally named them. The wedding cakes are Wednesday, Wendy, and Wesley. The Gorilla glues are Gloria, Glenda, and Glados. Wesley was shriveled up today. Looked like she didn't get enough water. She seemed to be recovering before I left for work. All 3 Wedding cakes are now popped out of soil! The gorilla glues are looking much better since I discovered I was over watering them. This is my first full day without watering the glues. The yellow and the red in the centers is slowly disappearing. I discovered the PH of my water had been going up after bubbling. I'm still not sure why and I haven't heard of this before. I'm being more cautious about my water though. I'm trying to test more often. I'm considering SCROG but I still need to do more research. I'm planning to flower in what will amount to a 4x4 space. 1x4 of my 5x4 tent has been dedicated to my fans and humidifier. D10 - I'm pretty sure Wesley is going to die if she's not already dead. Poor girl. I think she's probably the one I knocked over and had to put back in the dirt. Oh well. Everyone else is looking healthy. The gg4s went 48 hours without water and I just watered them. I checked the PH of my water before watering them this time. AGAIN the PH of my water had gone up over time. I don't understand it. I've been reading about people checking the PH of their soil. I'm going to do that soon, just not right now. After watering, the glues seemed to go limp a bit. It might be a side effect of over watering them in the beginning. Maybe I should have gone 3 days without watering. The soil was very dry though. So there's a mystery I need to solve, why do my plants go limp after watering. You'd think it would be something wrong with my water. Everyone at the local grow store uses the city water the same way I do and they say it's fine. Maybe I'll buy a tds meter anyway. D11 - Last night I decided on Manifolding as my grow technique. Shout out to @HAPPY91 who I saw mention Nebulas method. I did some digging after that and liked what I found. - New light came in today! Switched out the old blurple and put in the hlg. It looks great. I just need to figure out the height and intensity a bit. - Oh yeah...Wesley is dead RIP. - As per ORGANOMAN's (just tagged twice recently. Not trying to tag a third time!) suggestion I now have a few gallons of water sitting out over night. I'll let the chlorine evaporate a bit and use it just how it is. From what he said and what I've read after his suggestion, PH down can hurt your organic grows. PH down will kill the micro life in your super soil. Light intensity: lowest setting Light height: 27 inch from tallest (Glados of course! I love this girl. I might make her a mother and hold onto her for a bit) Humidity: 22-45 (ouch. Forgot to refill the humidifier) Temp: 64-79 (my tent is right by a window and is seeing fluctuations day and night. I'm trying to find solutions for my window) D12 - 1:55 PM - Jan 14th Light intensity: lowest setting Light height: Didn't move Humidity: 24-45 (still waiting on new humidifier) Temp: 66-79 - Watered the glues until right before I suspected runoff. I've read that watering till runoff with organic soil will wash all of your nutrients away. I used the unmodified tap water that I'd let sit out over night. I didn't notice a drooping after watering which is good. - lightly watered the wedding cakes. - Wednesday is really tall with tiny leaves and is falling over already which seems pretty weird. I'll try to do some research tonight. Update: this is called stretching. She was using all of her energy to get to the light. She needed more light! - All else seems good. I hope the plants like the new light! No indication of light burn that I can see. D13 - Jan 15th Light intensity: lowest setting Light height: 30 inches from tallest Humidity: 27-45 Temp: 64-79 - Last night I finally just let Wednesday fall over since that's what she wanted to do. This morning she seems pretty happy about it. Stem seems thicker and stronger, leaves look better. - everything looks good as far as I can tell. - update: I came home to Wednesday starting to straighten herself out. I read to put more soil in the pot and partially bury the stem to help with stabilization. D14 - Jan 16th Light: the same Humidity : 24-61 Temp: 64-81 - I'm having to use TWO humidifiers to keep my humidity up which seems crazy to me - some of them had red stems this morning - watered everyone today - my plants seem to be growing slow compared to other diaries I've seen - I will start nutrients next watering. I went with floranova per ORGANOMANS suggestIon. Please like, follow, or comment. I'm very new and open to any suggestions. Thanks everyone.

I've decided to do Manifolding with my plants. They are currently in 4 inch pots. When should I transplant them? Before topping them? What size pot should I transplant to? I'm growing 5 plants in a 4x4. Thank you for any help you can provide :).

Seeing as how this is your first grow, lets try not to make things too complicated for ourselves. You have to learn how to crawl before you can run, so I would suggest you just grow them normally and when you have worked out a bit about what it takes to grow cannabis successfully, then explore new techniques such as "mainlining". Get an understanding of your equipment, nutrients, plant hygiene, your plants requirements, water quality and quantity and substrate function before adding another layer of complication on top of it all. It would really help you if you get a basic knowledge base first and not overload yourself with trying to do too much too soon. I am not saying it is impossible, but probably not needed just yet. Right now your questions reflect a basic level of what's involved (no disrespect intended!) and like I suggested, you should try and not make things overly complicated for yourself with your very first grow. There are a fair few basic principles to master, it is not quite "put them in dirt, feed them and water them, switch lights on and off and bingo, free buds! Anyway, they look almost ready for transplanting, maybe wait until they are on their third set of leaves. Pots of about 20 litres/5 gallons work fine. Definitely don't top them before transplanting them, wait until they have been transplanted plus at least another two weeks for them to settle into new strong growth before any topping is done and there are at least 5-8 nodes to chose from, remembering the very lowest two sets of branches never really grow that well and I generally remove them as soon as they are big enough to be seen. Just rub the stem or slide a fingernail down and they will be gone, no need to use a blade etc). Topping them will also cause them to slow down for another 10-14 days while they recover and work out what has just happened, and before they start growing normally again. I would also suggest starting your seeds next time in plastic pots. While those environmentally friendly pots seem like a great idea, in my experience with them, is that they take a very long time to break down enough to let the roots go freely. In the end I carefully cut slits in the sides to help the roots get out much faster and much more easily. I couldn't work out why my plants were growing so slowly, so I carefully dug up one of those cardboard pots to discover to my horror that they had basically not broken down at all and my plants roots were really struggling to break through the "eco pots" and into the fresh soil into which I had transplanted them into. Besides, the plastic pots, if treated with kindness, can be washed and re-used for many years, making them an almost "responsible" option environmentally. I worked out that the cardboard ones would only break down and allow unimpeded root growth if they were kept REALLY wet and soggy, which is something that cannabis does not like. The mysterious pH increases can sometimes be traced back to the material that the actual "air stone" is made out of and leaching lime/calcium into your water. It probably isn't overly harmful/critical, however, if you can find an airstone that is dark grey/black in colour (aquarium shop), they seem to be less reactive than the cheap blue/green ones. About your seedlings going limp after watering, it could be a reaction to whatever you are using to adjust the pH of your water. At this age/size, the seedlings are pretty fragile and I would be giving them plain tap water without anything added to it. If the tap water is fine for people to drink, your seedlings will be fine with it too. If you are really keen, just let the tap water in a bucket for 24-36 hours before using it and this will allow all the chlorine to evaporate before you use it. pH is not something that is overly critical when growing in soil and it is not a case of if it isn't exactly 6.8 your plants will die/not grow/not perform/be ok - as long as the pH range is somewhere between 6.0 and 7.4 your plants will grow just fine. Nutrient "lock out" in the true sense, does not occur unless your soil is below 5.0 or above 8.0 which is almost impossible to achieve without chemical intervention or gross mistakes. All these little things are all the little "crawling steps" you need to understand before you can run. Like most things in life, it often pays to keep things as simple as possible (or also known as the "KISS" principle), especially if it is your first grow. Do you have/ have you decided on which nutrients you will be feeding your girls? If not, following in the "keep it simple routine, "Flora Nova Grow one part and Flora Nova Bloom one part by GHE and Bio Vega (one part) and Bio Flores (one part) by Bio Canna are two lines that are super effective and super simple to use (but half strength is usually more than enough), that I can highly recommend. They are also all just one bottle complete fertilizers meaning no mixing or having to buy bottle B and/or C to make a complete product. They are all quite concentrated, so you don't need much and one bottle will last many, many plants or multiple grows. And no, I don't sell the stuff or work for either company, I just like recommending them because they work and they are simple to use. Congratulations if you made it this far and all the way through my ramblings, I am just keen for new growers to learn and not be put off by overly complicated or overly rigid ideas that might put them off growing all together. Feel free to message me if you like, I love helping people. Good luck with your grow, you have embarked on a journey that will bring you endless joy and endless learning. I have been learning for 35+ years and amaze myself with how much there is still to learn, as you never stop learning with cannabis cultivation. If you do, then you are not paying attention! Hope this helps,.... Organoman.

I read it's important to exchange the air in your grow area once per five minutes. Because I read that, I've had my inline exhaust fan running in my tent since the beginning of my grow. Is that right?

Most run 24/7. I personally run mine 15 on 15 off on timer due to keeping temps warmer in grow area. But regularly moving air is needed to exchange new air and control humidity. Good luck and happy growing 🌲🌲🌲👊

D15 - Jan 17th - transplanted the gorilla glues to 5 gallon cloth pots. D16 - Jan 18th Light intensity : lowest Light height : 30" Humidity : 37-49 Temp: 68-77 Water: 1 cup glues - 1/2 cup cakes Nutrients : seedling 1/2 strength - red stems are disappearing. I think they were caused by large fluctuations in temperature and humidity. - I had to remove the misting humidifier. It was leaving a white residue all over everything. Just the evaporative humidifier remains. Holding steady at 42%. I have a bigger and hopefully better evaporative humidifier in the mail (ideal humidity closer to 55-60%). - started nutrients today. Did half strength floranova grow. 1 cup water each gorilla glue. 1/2 cup water each wedding cake. D17 - Jan 19th Light: no change Humidity : 37-49 Temp: 66-77 Water: none Nutrients : none - They look like they're growing again! Glues seem to love the new pots and nutrients. The cakes; Wednesday has recovered from her weak stem and is doing well now, Wendy's tip of her leaf is dark green and soggy looking. I'm thinking the nutrients may have been a little much for her. I'll keep it in mind and keep an eye on it. I'm very happy with how things are going though! D18 - Jan 20 - nothing to report D19 - Jan 21 - one of the glues fell over. I turned my fan down. I also used a stick to push it up right. - the stems are becoming green again very slowly. D20 - Jan 22 Light - haven't adjusted Humidity - 35-59 (I used the huge new humidifier for the entire room, it worked but was uncomfortable) Temp: 67-77 - still haven't watered. My soil seems like it's holding mousiture for long periods of time. - I gave up on trying to raise my humidity all the way to 60%. I got my third humidifier in the mail yesterday and it is way bigger than I anticipated. It's freaking huge. I have no doubt it could humidify my tent but it takes up too much room. I've read a person can do just fine without the perfect humidity. I'm holding steady at 45%, with my vornado that I actually like, and I think that's going to be just fine for my winter months. It should be easier to keep higher in summer. D21 - Jan 23 Light intensity - second click (20% maybe?) Light height - 30" from top Humidity - 34-55 Temp - 68-77 Water - 1/2 cup glues - 1/4 cup cakes - I've realized my cakes were underwatered. They were drooping and had dark green leaves. They are recovering after being watered. - glues drooped for a short while after watering which worries me. The tap water had been left out over night but nothing else had been done to it. I've been thinking about getting some organic ph down. Maybe that will help. *** Any support or advice is appreciated! Happy growing friends.

D22 - Jan 24 Light: 30" / 20% Humidity: 34-45 Temp: 68-77 - I've read that higher temps are better with leds. I put my heater inside my tent and cranked it up. We'll see what happens. - leaves seem to be cupping up a bit. I'll try to look into it. -update- it's called tacoing and it's from the leaves being too hot. I'd actually put my heater in the tent last night. I just pulled it out and put it near the intake like I had it before. D23 - Jan 25 Light: 30" / 20% Humidity: 36-50 Temp: 68-79 Water: Gg4: 1/2 cup - Wc: 1/4 cup Nutes: Gg4: seedling 1/2 strength - Wc: none D24 - Jan 26 Light: 30" / 20% (I'm letting them grow up to the light till they start praying, then I'll raise it) Humidity: 38-50 Temp: 68-77 Water: none Nutes: none - The cakes have seen better days. They're trying to recover from my amatuer hour but they're having a hard time. D25 - Jan 27 Light: 30" / 30% Humidity: 36-50 Temp: 68-77 Water: Gg4: 1/2 cup - Wc: 1/4 cup Nutes: Gg4: 1/2 strength early growth - Wc: None - started LST on one. I think I'll try to LST one into a spiral around the pot. I haven't made up my mind on specific techniques for the others. D26 Jan 28 Light: 30" / 50% Humidity: 38-47 Temp: 68-79 Water: none Nutes: none - Funny story, I've mistakenly misread my light percentage everyday till today. All posts prior to this actually have 10% more power than annotated. Oops. I thought it odd my light only had 9 power settings instead of 10. Turns out there are 10 settings, each one being 10%. The first one is just a little wonky and threw me off. If I go from off to 10% the light doesn't turn on. I have to slowly twist the knob a little past 10% power till the light kicks on, then I can reduce back to 10% and it works. - Manufacturer recommendation is 30" at 50% for veg. We're finally there. - They look great to me. Though I am thinking one of the cakes will make it and one won't, which is fine. 4 plants at once is my goal for future grows. D27 - Jan 29 Light: 30" / 50% Humidity: 31-47 Temp: 68-82 Water: 1 cup Gg4 - 1/4 cup Wc Nutes: 1/2 tsp/gal Gg4 - none Wc - Installed some training rings on my other glue's pots. Started LST on all 3. I don't think I'll be doing any topping this run. I plan to try both mainlining and fluxing some time in the future. - Finally removed the cotyledon leaves and first two sets of leaves. I just used my fingernails. - Leaves are cupping a bit. I don't think it's too hot, there's plenty of airflow, and I don't believe the light is too close. I closed the heat vent in my room. It's something to keep an eye on but I'm not too worried yet. I'll do some more reading about it tonight. - update - OK, this is embarrassing but hopefully someone can learn from my mistakes. I've been keeping my thermometer above my lights for a week or two now. I originally did it to get a different humidity reading and then never moved it. I've also been turning my lights up over the past week. I just put my thermometer at plant level, under the lights. It's already clocking 84 degrees and I'm thinking it was likely as high as 87. I'm glad I listened to my girls and did some investigating. 84 is the upper limit of the recommended temperature with leds. I'll be trying to stabilize my temperature, hopefully quickly. - I noticed a smell for the first time today! They smell like pine. - I've been using plain tap water and not PHing it. Every time I use PH down I notice drooping in my plants right away. I should be leaving my water out for 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate. I've been forgetting though so I've been letting it sit out for at least a few hours. - My nutrient water I'm mixing in a gallon jug. I put the lid back on and then use it again two days later and dump the rest. - I hope I'm doing things close to right. Idk. I've read so much and reading can only get you so far. I'm excited for the future of this grow so I can develop some wisdom and first hand knowledge. D28 - Jan 30 Light: 32" / 50% Humidity: 32-47 Temp: 68-82 Water: None Nutes: None - Still had cupping today. I raised the light 2" to hopefully help. I also put a fan up to blow on my light to maybe move some of that hot air away from my plants. Idk. Check out the crazy contraption I put together in my pics. It's just a tower oscillating fan with a clip fan on top lol. I like it. - Installed new blinds to help with the heat from the sun in the mornings. - I installed screens over my intake ports to help prevent cat hair from going into the tent. If you zoom in on some of my pictures, cat hair is invading the place lol. It's on my plants! - They look good. Even the little dopey one seems to be doing alright. *** Thank you for looking at my grow, your support, and any advice you might have. Happy growing friends.

Hoi! 🌱

The new growth looks good anyway. 2/3 gg4s have a couple leaves clawing. I think this is from nitrogen toxicity. I'll hold off on Nutes for them for a bit. The other one though, she has no clawing and she is growing the fastest of the bunch. She's the one in the back left corner. - I have 7 pointed leaves! That seems pretty cool to me lol. I remember back in the day when my plants just had two little round leaves :-p. - I dropped the ball on the diary this week. I switched my lighting schedule which certainly has something to do with it. I was also feeling bummed about my plants for a bit. They're growing very slow. They're growing though! I'm trying to stay positive and keep it going. Can't wait for my first harvest! D35 Feb 6 Light: 30" / 40% Humidity: 32-43 Temperature: 66-79 Water: 1 cup gg4, 1/4 cup Wc Nutes: None - The two gg4s closest to the fan are drooping pretty bad. I'm assuming they just need water. D36 Feb 7 Light: 30" / 40% Humidity: 30-43 Temperature: 64-79 Water: None Nutes: None - The girls look happy today! They're doing a little bit of praying. D37 Feb 8th Light: 30" / 50" Humidity: 30-41 Temperature: 66-79 Water: 1 1/4 cup gg4s, 1/4 cup Wc Nutes: None - Started some LST. Mostly just tucked fan leaves but I had to hold a few back. I bent over the tops a bit too. Hopefully I'll be able to even out all of the cola areas. I'll try my best. D38 Feb 9th Light: 30" / 50% Humidity: 29-41 Temperature: 66-81 Water: None Nutes: None - They're responding well to the LST I think! The picture doesn't do them justice since I have the majority of my cola locations facing the center. Do I call them colas before flipping? - I still have obvious signs of nitrogen burn. I've stopped using nutes. They seem to be getting better rather than worse. New growth looks great. I'm not worried. It was a good lesson to learn. - I removed the two bottom most fan leaves from each gg4. They were touching the dirt and it just made me worry about mold or something happening. Idk if this was the right move or not but it's too late now! D39 Feb 10 Light: 30" / 40% Water: 1.5 cups gg4, 1/2 cup Wc Nutes: None - Almost forgot this, changed the light. Every time I turn my light up to 50% my leaves get wrinkly looking. So I turned it back down to 40%. I'm thinking it's more heat related than light related. I'm not totally sure though. I want to use the whole 600w when I flower so I hope I can figure it out. Why is a top of the line LED at 50% power having heat problems? I have negative air pressure in the tent and two different fans. The air it intakes is about 70 degrees. I just don't get it. - I reevaluated my LST. I made sure all three gg4 had the tops bent down. - The ones closest to the fan were very droopy today. I have to assume it's due to needing water. Especially since it's just the ones closest to the fan. But also, I hear people say their plants perk up quickly after watering. Mine tend to take at least a few hours. I wonder if it has to do with PH. I ordered a Milwaukee mw102 ph pen almost a week ago now and it's taking its sweet time. - I don't think I'm a fan of smart pots. I really don't like the water running out of the sides on occasion. - *IMPORTANT ADVICE* Protect your eyes people! I've read multiple accounts of people not realizing they need eye protection. Grow lights are no joke! They can and will degrade your vision quickly. There are different types of sunglasses depending on your grow light. I have full spectrum led lights (white light) but I got green lense glasses from vivosun (green lenses should be used for blurples). I'm not convinced they're doing a good job because my eyes still feel weird after being in my tent for awhile. I went ahead and ordered some method sevens just in case. I really want to protect my eyes. ******* Thanks for looking at my grow, and for any support or advice you can give. Happy growing!
