>> SEEDS << Mephisto Genetics - Pink Livers (Illuminautos #48) I decided to do this grow to satisfy some curiosity. I'm growing another Mephisto Pink Livers and have started to LST it, so I'm going to grow this one alongside it without LST and see what difference it makes in terms of quality of bud, yield, etc. The seeds are from the recent Illuminautos release, Pink Livers (Livers Back-cross x Pink Panama). >> EQUIPMENT << I keep things pretty Lo-Fi: 3 Gallon Felt pot Bio-Bizz Light Mix Bio-Bizz Grow Bio-Bizz Bloom Bio-Bizz Alg-A-Mic Fecida CR600 125w LED I grow in the Space Cupboard, a broom cupboard in my kitchen with the walls wrapped in survival blankets. It's small, but it's stealthy and convenient. >> GERMINATION TIMELINE << 21/01 - Seed is in, so now the long wait for germination to begin... Hate this bit! 23/01 - The taproot was a little slow to pop, taking about 36 hours to show, but she got there in the end. Seed put into soil with a little water and covered with Humidity dome. 25/01 - She popped the surface this morning and is looking good! Here we go! TO BE UPDATED....

Day 3 - Height @ 2" Just cracking on with this seedling, she's doing okay, slow days with not much to do at this point. All I do now is add a little water about an inch around the base of the sprout every other day or so. No nutrients or anything special yet.

Day 8 - Height: @ 3" Pink Livers #2 is coming up nicely, surprisingly to me, she is a little different to my other Pink Livers diary, growing a little taller and not nearly as wide as that seedling, though I do think that one was a giant seedling... She's still larger than average though, it seems and growing well. We'll see over the next week or so if she is going to put out those same, huge, wide and fat fan leaves as the first phenotype. Anyway, grow is still simple, plain water with a watering can, but just a tiny amount of water around the base of the seedling every other day or so and thats about it! I'll start a low, low dose of nutrients maybe towards the end of this week or at the start of next. Day 12 - Height: @ 6" Really getting some good strength and growth now. She's a little bit leggy, I was itching to start training her earlier, but I really want to grow her out naturally and see the plants natural structure, so I'll have to hold myself off and sit on my hands. She should really start shooting up soon, I think I'll slowly introduce Alg-A-Mic and Grow nutrients at her next watering.

Welcome back to week 3 of my second grow for Mephisto Pink Livers, starting to kick off now! Day 15 - Height: 8" This plant is stretching a little and still looks a little leggy, but I'm committed to letting her grow out naturally, so we'll see how that goes over the next few weeks I guess. She has passed through seedling into veg and looks nice and healthy. I started nutrients this week at 1ml/l BioBizz Grow and will basically follow what I fed my other Pink Livers grow, though I have noticed on that one some very slight clawing at about week 6, so I'll probably dial back a touch on the grow nutrient when she hits flower to ease off the Nitrogen just a little. I'll just keep an eye on her. All healthy and looking forward to some big growth this week! Day 18 - Height: 14" Still going well, she seems to have calmed down on the early stretch now, but at day 18, she should be approaching the real stretch when she moves into flower... I'm a little scared how tall she's going to go! She looks good though and has the same big fat fan leaves as I saw on the 1st Pink Livers before I started training her. Otherwise, al healthy and feeding well, she took to the introduction of nutrients absolutely fine and has nice lush green leaves with no blemishes so all good!

Welcome back to my natural Pink Livers grow! Week 4 for this girl and she looks like showing pre-flowers. She's about half a week quicker than the other Pink Livers, which when you consider all the LST I did to that, I guess that shows how much this strain doesn't mind training. Day 22 - Height: 22" She's really stretched over the past week and is looking very leggy and lanky, her structure is definitely tall and thin, but her fan leaves are beautiful and broad. I would guess she's growing like this due to the space constraints in my space at the moment and so has grown quite narrow. I had to do everything in my power not to top her a couple of days ago and start training, but it's too late now and we're definitely tied into letting her grow up naturally. Very healthy, taking to nutrients just fine, I think she'll probably be moving into full swing of flower by the end of the week.

Welcome back, Pink Lovers number 2 is going nice and strong, I hope everyones plants are well! Day 29 - Height: 29" She's going well, I've noticed a very slight calcium deficiency showing in my other pink livers grow that showed about 3 weeks into flower, so this week I fed .5ml/l of calmag with every other watering as a preventative measure. I also added bloom nutrients into her feed schedule too, starting low and keeping it to every other water also and see how she goes. She's still very leggy and I'm really not sure how well her bud sites are going to fill out, but she's still only in her very early flowering stage and I'm hoping with a bit of leaf tucking the side branches will shoot up a little bit yet so they can fatten up some. It's mad how different she is compared to the Pink Livers I trained. I think I much prefer this strain with some LST over natural so far, that's for sure. Day 34 - Height: 29" I pruned off some of the lower foliage and a side stem that only grew about 6 inches from the stem so was totally pointless. Overall the structure of this plant is a bit weird and doesn't have much in the way of side stems, so I'm hoping the main cola is going to be a stonker... I suppose we'll see in a couple of weeks! Otherwise plant is healthy, no sign of the calcium troubles from Pink Livers 1 reoccurring here, so thats good news! vertical growth has completely stalled at a nice manageable size. All quiet otherwise, just getting on in autopilot with alternating feeding and watching those buds gain some substance. Anyway, onwards and upwards, grow well everyone, cheers!

Welcome back to my second Pink Livers grow, I hope you're all well! Day 36 - Height: 31" This girl is still doing well, although she stretched out a lot at the start, her bud sites are filling out which is something of a relief. I measured PPMs at the start of the week and runoff is good, coming out about +200 from what I put in, so nutrients seem to be well balanced and she is feeding well. Hopefully we can dodge the calcium lockout issues I encountered with my other Pink Livers with this one. Probably the weakest part of the plant is the side branches which have stayed quite low and I don't have a lot of faith in them producing too much, but we'll see, maybe she can surprise me yet. She is starting to get a bit of a smell, but tbh it's pretty heavily covered up by the Pink Livers next to her, which is further along and absolutely stinks! Otherwise all healthy and looking good! Day 41 - Height: 31" The side stems on this plant are starting to look really weak, though she is making up for it with a pretty big main cola. Hopefully the main stem will really fill out to compensate for the crappy sides. Everything healthy, but I guess time will tell if she's going to yield much of anything.

Welcome back to my second Pink Livers grow. This girl is really starting to show a real significant difference in yield between this plant with no LST and the same strain with LST, which is rammed full of bud. At this point I'm pretty convinced of the benefits of LST and will probably not grow plants naturally again lol. Day 43 - Height: 31" Going well, she seems to be showing some premature yellowing, which is likely due to me rolling back on Nitrogen by lowering my grow feeds a little too hard. Has left me in the strange position of having slightly clawed leaves from previous toxicity and yellow from an encroaching deficiency. It's fine though, I'll just keep the balance in feeding and keep an eye on her. Using calmag in weeks 5/6/7 once per week at a low dose seems to have staved off calcium deficiencies that I was somewhat expecting after my experiences in the other Pink Livers grow, so glad that's working out so far, fingers crossed. The main cola is getting sizeable, but she's really going to need to fill up the nodes to be a worthwhile yield. I have faith she'll do alright, but yeah, no patch on the Livers thats LST'd.

Welcome back to my second Pink Livers grow! Day 50 - height: 31" Going well, I took off quite a few of the lower large fan leaves that had gone really light lime green or yellow. They've faded a little early I thought, but it's okay, they always go in the end anyway. This plants structure is a little weird. I still think she is very lanky and lean, not much side branching at all. The main cola is fattening up though so we shall see about yield. I harvested the LST'd plant last week, so I have a target now to see if she stands up without any training. I think she's not going to come anywhere near but who knows. Otherwise, grow-wise, very much on auto-pilot at this point. pH is good, PPMs in runoff are good, maybe trending a touch high, so I'll water with plain water for the next water or two to compensate. Day 54 - Height 31" Some really interesting colours are starting to come out now. In my last Livers grow the plant stayed entirely green, but here she's starting to show some really nice fall colours with pinks and purples on both the sugar leaves and flowers. Looking great! Nothing to report in terms of grow honestly, it's been one of those weeks where things just coast along. A few weeks left max on this girl I think, I have a feeling she's going to finish up a little early. Thanks for reading, grow well!

Welcome back to the Pink Liver grow, it's starting to reach the showdown time in the LST Vs No LST comparison grows for this strain. Day 56 - Height: 31" We're into the start of week 9 and this plant is really starting to shine now, She's throwing out some beautiful fall colouring, with pinks, purples and almost black leaves blushing through. Everything is going well, taking heed from my last pink livers grow and feeding calmag for a few weeks in flower seems to have kept this strains propensity to get hungry for calcium well at bay. She's still really straggly and lanky and I'm not a huge fan of her structure at all, but her main cola is fattening up considerably and what I thought was going to be a clear cut win in yield for the LST grow is no longer looking like such an obvious victory. I still don't think this plant will reach the yield of the LST grow, but she's really putting up a good effort and the main bud is easily as fat as a coke can at this point, if not fatter. LST is fun and far more manageable all round, but I do miss the colas like Christmas trees you get from a natural grow. Anyway, in terms of the grow, this week is basically auto-pilot now, I've cut all grow nutes down completely and I'll pretty much coast to harvest now, which I think is probably about 2 weeks off. Once again she is really stinking the house out, so is seems no matter the phenotype, this strain is a sticky, stinky beast. Day 60 - Height: 31" To say this plant has been quick is an understatement! Just now hitting Day 60 from sprout and she's getting well ready for the chop! The colours that have come out in her are fantastic and the buds have turned a beautiful purple and red. Looking at the Trichomes, there are a few amber here and there, very low percentage though, so I'm going to let her run at least until the weekend and then re-evaluate, but I can't see her going much past another week, max. As far as care goes now, not a lot, just flushing through with some plain water and letting her sit under the light. Easy plant! Thanks very much for reading, I sense a harvest week coming real soon! Grow well x

All wrapped up with the second Pink Livers grow. I started this grow as a test to see what a non-LST Pink Livers would look like directly next to my other plant, which I trained fairly heavily, though they were a few weeks apart. Overall I have to say I much preferred the LST plant! >> HARVEST AND TRIM << As suspected, she didn't yield anywhere near as much as the LST plant, almost 50% less in fact! I was sort of expecting it from about week 3 to be honest, when I saw her structure start growing quite lank and straggly. Still, she grew well, looked beautiful and the bud she did give up are hard as nails so it's definitely still a win! Trimming was fairly easy and I took off about half the largest fan leaves before dry and the rest after 3 days of drying. Everything went into the drying rack on full stems, in 50% Relative Humidity and temps around 19-20C. >> DRY BUD REPORT << It took about 6 days to dry in my hanging rack, with another 2 days in a cardboard box with the lid shut and a small hole in the top. After that I tossed all the dried bud into jars with 62% Boveda packs. Final weight all trimmed was 46g. There was more popcorn with this plant compared to the LST plant, but the majority of the bud is still good size. The smell is actually a little stronger than the LST plant, but the same sour and earthy gasoline vibe. >> EARLY SMOKE << I smoked a tiny bit of this just to compare it with the other Pink Livers and they both hit about the same, feeling very heavy in the head and relaxing full body stone. This will definitely be one for smoking before bed time, for sure. >> FINAL THOUGHTS << I enjoyed this grow and managed to avoid any calcium issues after the slight struggle I had with the first grow of this strain. The late fall colours were really enjoyable to watch come out and overall this was a super easy plant. On the flip side, I really hated her structure, which pretty much sucked. She was way too lanky and the side stems didn't really ever take off at all. Compared to the LST plant, it's just a no brainer to train this in future, which I'll definitely be doing as I still have 4 Pink Livers seeds left and it's a great plant to grow. Thanks so much for reading and following the grow, I've got plenty on the go right now, so nothing new going in right now just yet. I want to finish up the Forum Stomper at least, and hopefully by then the Purple Punch, Orange Sherbert and Fastbuds Tester will be nice and mature and I'll start thinking about what to grow next. I'm going to either grow out a Purple Lemonade, or start a new seed project, chucking a bit of pollen and possibly creating a mix of Forum Stomper x Purple Lemonade, which I'm going to call Loli-Pop (Loli as in Lolita, from the Forum Stompers girl scout heritage and Pop as in fizzy drink... Get it?! lol) Anyway, not sure what I'll be doing, but plenty happening right now anyway!
