So far so good.
I have had some issues with my set up, but I'm hoping they are all behind me now.
I've managed to get a nice temp in the tent, using a small seedling heater. I had been suffering with temps as low as 16c with lights off, this is now behind me, and my plants. 😃
The other issue has been too much light for my seedlings. After some trial and error (at the expense of some other poor plants) I now know the full 30w of my light is too much for a new born, in a tent. In the past without a tent it has been fine, but all that reflected light has proved to be too much for the young ones.
My solution has been to install a switch halving the lights output. It only needs to be half power for the first few days, just enough time to get it's first set of jagged leaves formed. After that it's full steam ahead, as demonstrated in this weeks photo.😀
I'm also back to BioBizz soil, and their organic nutes, so what could go wrong....
Watch this space😂
Looks like I spoke too soon, almost dialed in 😂.
This little one got hungry faster than I expected, so she's picked up a little paleness on her leaves. I got to it pretty quick, 5 days ago, and the feeding seems to have stopped it getting worse.
She's growing at a fantastic rate, so I've moved her into the big girl tent. I think she's already mature enough for more light.
So far so good, and so much better than my other recent starts 😁
Well this one looks happier in real life than her photo implies 😂.
She's got some big old solar panels on her. If she stays happy this coming week I'll think about topping her, she'll be my first topped auto 😀
update 8/12: I swear this one thinks she's a lettuce. Her latest photo show's her looking a healthier green
WOW this thing really thinks it's a cabbage, I removed two huge fan leaves last week, you wouldn't have noticed though 😀
So this week I removed a couple more large ones, and used some "bends" clips to spread her out a little.
Then I had a rush of blood to the head and thought "let's top her", so I did 😀. I think the timing is about right, and I'm sure she'll bounce back regardless. I've never topped an auto, so it'll be interesting to see
Well this one still thinks she's a cabbage. You'd never believe a removed a set of hand size leaves last week, she's replaced them.
My attempt at topping (forgot to take a photo) has slowed down her upward growth, but I'm not sure I chopped enough to get two tops. No biggie, might just need some more time.
She's had plenty of lower growth to train, and I've had a chance to use some more of the bending clips. This week I've tried to bend the lower growth around the upper leaves, instead of leaf removal. I don't think she's going to care either way 😂
Update 25/2: Looks like I topped this one at the perfect time 😲, most unlike me. She's now got two tops 😁. I removed two of
her largest fan leaves to let the light in.
Well this one wants the tent to herself alright. She's using her shoulders and everything else she's got to push everyone else out the way.
Despite have thick limbs she remains remarkably flexible. I managed to get her top bent over with a clip, even though the clip barely went around her stem.
She should get more of the space she wants in the tent soon.
Really loving the clips, cheers for the heads up on them @Nickeluring. They work miles better than I expected, wish I'd got 2 packs 😂
This one got her stretch on this week. She for sure caught me off guard, left her alone for a moment and she stretched straight into the light. She now has one burnt up and crispy top 😕, I knew it was going too well.
I don't think it's going to be that much of an issue, I might have topped her at the perfect time (for once) she's got enough tops to lose one 😀
I upped her feed as she stretched so much, no complaints yet. Hopefully she's finished that spurt and will get on with fattening what she's got.
This one is trucking along, no sign of damage from the increased nutes.
Her light burnt tip, has grown two new tops. Not the greatest way to top a plant, it's just good to see she's recovered. Think her stretch is coming to an end, hoping I won't need to raise the light again.
Update 14/3: This ones going through a litre of water a day now, I'm trying to feed every other day. This one has a trunk.
This one's the boss of the tent (for now)
She's stopped stretching now and is just bulking up. Not especially stinky yet.
She's got a little burning on some of her tips, but think she'll power through it 😀.
Got some pics out in the garden, the triple top from her fight for the light is cool.
As of tomorrow she'll be doing a 12hr shift outside the tent in the garden (weather permitting) while the lights are off.
21/3: She's out and about in the first Spring sunshine
23/3: Springs obviously her season 😁
This one's trucking along lovely. She has slight tip burn, but think I've got that covered.
She 12hrs in the tent, and 12hrs in the garden, with direct sun light for around 4-5 hours. She has loved the change 😁
Plain sailing with this one so far.
Her buds are fattening up lovely, and she's getting some sparkling crystals now. With time yet to get more 😁
She's showing some deficiencies, but that's to be expected by now.
Well this girl is stacking up lovely 😁, they claim she's a 12 week strain, and it looks like they're bang on the money for once.
I'm going to give her another week, room in the tent's getting tight at night, and there's another little one after her spot.
Very happy how she's turning out, I'm hoping for some sunshine this week to help finish her off 😀
14/4 Well I've moved her out of the tent. I was becoming concerned about air circulation in the tent, too many plants bunched up. I will chop her at the weekend. No luck with the weather, so she's sheltering under a lean-to in the garden for now 😐
Really happy how this one turned out, even had to break out the second octopus for drying 😁.
To be fair the second octopus is holding all the lower airy buds, but they'll be fine for juicing/cooking.
I'll update this further later.
@GrowDiaries you really need to have a harvest page, and then a post harvest page. 😉
@Nickeluring, Cheers mate, this one just went right. A pleasure to grow, I'm loving growing in soil again 😀. Hopefully I'm starting to get all the kinks worked out.........hopefully😺
