First ever solo grow, used to work at a grow almost 10 years ago doing menial labor tasks without appreciating the science of growing bud. Wanted to give it a try with all this COVID time, and it being legal where I live I figured, "why not?" Started with 2 plants in the very same conditions, planted directly in soil medium. Soil is Fox Farms (Frog Variant) with added amendments in the bottom 1/3rd of the 5 gallon containers. Worth noting the containers aren't technically a full 5 gallon volume, as they are shorter than a 5 gallon bucket. I assume this means they are actually 3 gallon and were falsely advertised, either way, the planters seem to be big enough.
These little girls popped right out of the soil with no complications in about 5-6 days and are ready to grow.
Girls are growing. Stretching a little too tall I think, may raise them and increase light next week. Started the grow with my light set to 'veg' which only emits blue and white light, switching to 'veg' & 'bloom' to increase light next week since it's an auto strain.. Hopefully wont be a mistake. Wish them luck! :)
Lights this week got flipped to full spectrum, moved a bit closer to the light, and added a little more soil since the stems were a little too stretchy for my comfort.. Been watering properly, PH to 6.5 every time I water & moving water further away from the center in a ring each time to promote root growth. Other than a little stretch, the plants look healthy and next week will most likely get their first amendments to the soil
Added solid amendments to the soil as well as a little bit of calmag for the girls this week. Started my first attempt at LST, not sure if I'll do it right but I'm going to try and increase canopy size and hopefully the yield in the end. Aiming for 2 ounce minimum, with 4 ounces as the overall goal. Not sure if I'll make it but I'm doing my best for my first grow!
Girls are loving the amendments as well as the Fox Farm - Grow Big I started administering this week. Did minor defoliation to ensure light to bud-sites. LST efforts are starting to show, some of the side stems are starting to catch up to the main cola stem. Steady as she goes!
Plants are really starting to stretch and fill out their spaces. Pistils have appeared; they're girls! Expecting pre-flower to kick in hard this next week. Starting to administer Fox Farm - Big Bloom and will probably start Tiger Bloom next week while keeping nitrogen levels high with Grow Big to encourage the early flower stretch. Excited to see my efforts shaping up---literally!
Also bought a few 2x4's at my local hardware store and built myself a little wooden table for inside the grow tent to raise the plants & create storage area underneath. Light has been working fine this whole grow, but considering upgrading to a mars hydro later this year.
Girls are blowing up! Pre-flower is in full effect. Can start to notice future bid-sites. Trying to defoliate here and there to distribute light while spreading the branches for the nice even canopy. Will probably stop aggressive tiedowns in LST next week and let the girls stretch a bit.
Left these girls alone for 4 days and let the soil dry out a bit as I'm trying not to over-water/over-feed and boy are they starting to fill out and stretch! Love to see it. They are starting to have a pretty even spread and neither have a clearly dominant cola, so hopefully the yield will be big all around! Still feeding same amounts of Fox Farm each week with just plain de-chlorinated & ~6.5 PH'd tap water in between feedings.
Planted my third seed to try out a mainlining experiment, which I'll probably move to another grow. Check my profile if you're interested in that one for the future!
The ladies are thriving right now, stretching and starting to stack on more and more pre-flowers. Hoping for several big colas. One plant is a little more developed than the other, but they seem to be pretty even overall. Did some minor loli-popping and defoliation to encourage even light and airflow in the tent. Temperature is kind of rising, but nothing to be alarmed about yet, and humidity continues to stay about the same. My lady and I can definitely start to smell the girls when the tent is open throughout the house, but the smell isn't yet overwhelming. Glad to see them starting to take off. More pictures each week from here, didn't expect to make a diary and discovered the website week 5 of my grow, decided to randomly form my diary today in week 8!
Flower is kicking in hard. Starting to see clear bud stacking and formation throughout both plants. Reducing additional nitrogen as I'm assuming the stretch is just about over, while increasing the bloom nutes. As I've said before, hoping for a 4oz. yield this time (big goal) but at least 2oz. would be enough for me to consider this not a failure production-wise. Steady as she goes!
Plant #1 (on right) is going to be a big girl I think. Bud development is nice, starting to form first crystals/resin, and each top is getting taller every day. Pretty much a dream of a plant for a first grow. Plant #2 (left) seems to still either be a tiny bit behind or struggling with something. I suspect either mag deficiency or some sort of lockout. Left is smaller and not as far along in flower it seems, as well as lighter green shades in new growth. Lowering ph a bit in the soil and gave straight water one time. The plant seems to be adjusting and recovering so far from what I can tell. Did some defoliation to promote bud site growth, hoping both plants finish out strong in this final stretch.
Plants going strong. Left plant is looking a little bit better, but still behind. Right girl is a monster, probably repeating myself here but I'm expecting that one to be a nice yield. Tri's are forming nicely, buds are starting to be more and more noticeable. Excitement is growing for harvest in probably 20-30 days(I'm guessing).
Basically same as last week. Tri's are coming in so nicely, tried to get some pictures of them with my flash. Made for some pretty photography in my opinion. Buds are starting to fill out, hoping they'll get much bigger in the next week.. We'll see.
All is quiet on the Western Front. Surprisingly, the left plant is starting to bud up thicker than the right plant. Guess it was worth the delay? I hope? Not sure how good the buds will be on the right one, but cant tell if I'm getting ahead of myself or not. Hoping they'll thicken up a bit and will avoid a larfy harvest, but I'll be happy with a successful harvest at least. Both are looking nice though for my first solo grow, always learning.
No more nutes. Burn is to the point where I'm sure they'll be sated until harvest, which I'm guessing will be another 1-2 weeks, just in time for my birthday. Pretty hyped for my first solo grow here. Left plant's colas are getting THICK and are dense as fuck. Right plants buds are plentiful but kinda fluffy, dense cores though. Should still be a good yield from that plant, but I think the substantial buds will come from left plant. We'll see. Itching to harvest, waiting for autumn leaves then will harvest. Both plants are also very thirsty, getting about double what they were 2 weeks ago. Straight water ph'd to ~6.5 to finish these girls off.
Still no nutes. This is for sure the last few days for right plant at least. Some leaves are starting to turn on left plant, but right plant has quite a bit more turning yellow / consumption. Really excited to harvest. Going to put them in the dark for 48 hours before chop, then trim whole and dry whole for as long as I can without over-drying. It's very dry here, so we'll see how long it ends up taking. Tested a few nugs from right plant and I got a really nice high, more body than mind but still solid all around. Flavor was definitely that of a prematurely cut plant that could've probably dried a bit more, will definitely be better on the actual harvest. Really excited to consume my efforts. :) Harvest post next week!
EDIT:::::::
Website won't let me add another harvest page, so check out the harvest week above for the harvest of both plants. 80g from the first plant and 94g from the second, pretty good first grow in my opinion!
No nutes, this girl keeps swelling up though. Cant wait to harvest, smells sweet as ever. The buds harvested last week are super sweet and actually surprisingly seem like a cure is starting despite the original dryness. I'm confident now I'll be hitting my goal of 4oz. and to be honest, I might even get 4oz. just from this second plant! We'll see, pretty hyped about this first grow.
Easy to grow, learned a lot and any lack of quality is the fault of my own, not the genetics. Bought 3 seeds and ended up 3 for 3 germinating them directly in soil. Will probably grow these genetics again and try to max them out after the knowledge gained from this run.
Harvest right plant, the plant my girlfriend named "Jane" a few months ago. Might have been a tad bit early, but it's ok. Decent yield, 581g (including trim & stems, but not the major stems) wet weight, 101g of trim after pruning, so 480g wet with stems. Still hoping to hit at least 1 ounce dry without stems, but hopefully closer to 2 if I'm lucky. Trying not to dry too fast, around 42% humidity with a bit of airflow in our extra bathroom shower. Will update once things are dried and in jars with final dry weight when the time comes.
UPDATE::::
Holy shit, way more bud than I thought I'd get out of this plant. 2.88oz total, and that's with accidentally over-drying them. Let them dry out a little too much, losing hope for a perfect cure but still really happy with how the buds turned out and learned a lot going forward. Buds taste and smell great, super stoney yet also uplifting high, definitely more stoney though for sure. Very happy with this plant and excited to see how much of a monster the other plant will become. My overall goal of a quarter pound seems all but accomplished at this point, very happy day. Updates soon on Mary (left plant).
UPDATE::::: (4/7/21)
3.36oz from Mary (left plant) dry. Insane yield for what I was expecting, way higher. Pleasant surprise. Really happy with this first grow overall, couldn't have asked for much better results or an easier time with it.
Dude, absolutely brilliant job! Long grow for an auto, but I assume there were a few hiccups along the way :) I'm finishing up several of my own and believe I will also have an extended grow due to my own negligence! Fingers crossed they're able to recover and have a similar outcome to yours -- Really solid grow on your end. Look forward to seeing final dry photos :)
@TCH0808, Luckily not many hiccups, just think I may have starved them a bit during veg. Was a little too afraid of over-feeding but I definitely learned a lot. One of the original two plants is still going, gonna see how long I can get it to puff up and become an even bigger yield. Thanks for the comment, updates soon!
