This one is an experiment, I'm sure we have all seen YouTube videos of growing in Coco with dry amendments, reviews/advice is roughly a 50/50 split on yes it works or no it doesn't, only one to find out I guess! Im using Canna Coco professional plus as my base medium (50%) mixed in some wormcastings (20%) added perlite (30%) mixed this thoroughly then filled a 2 litre pot with the medium and set this to one side. I then added 2 tbsp (4 TSP as above) per gallon of living soils grow, 1 tbsp per gallon of living soils frass, and 1 tbsp per gallon of living soils bloom, mixed this up and put it in a 3 gallon fabric pot. With the plain medium in the 2 litre pot I made a whole in the centre of the 3 gallon pot, transferred the 2 litres of plain medium into the whole, took the sprouted bean from the paper towel and planted her into the plain medium part of the 3 gal pot. 2 days later she's here!! Now, the last time I grew this girl she had black buds (you couldn't say they were purple, too dark!!) She didn't end up autoflowering and ended up with a monster!! See what happens this time
She's coming along, gave her a full drench this week with ecothrives biosys, should start to see some speedy growth soon, i will be re-amending the Coco this following week with a 70/30 mix of living soils grow and bloom with a extra tbsp of bat guano for an additional kick
So she's coming along nicely, lovely shade of green!! I have give them the living soils grow bloom frass and topped that up with 1tbsp of guanokalongs powder all top dressed scratched in and then watered in with ecothrives biosys at 1g per litre, experiment seems to be going in the right direction!! I couldn't find a training technique for ponytailing so put it as LST, basically same thing right? The reason for ponytailing is the last time I grew this strain I had 2 others and I topped all the strains all autoflowers except this strain didn't autoflower, so this time just some light training and maybe some defoliation at later stages
No signs of flowering yet! We could be looking at another seed from the same packet not autoflowering, oh well scrog net at the ready! She is showing Indica traits, small squat and bushy! UP TO NOW the Coco seems to be doing a good job with the dry amendments from living soils fertiliser, basically I have treated it as if it was soil, with ecothrives biosys at 1g per litre. I'm sure there are going to be some curve balls thrown at me yet, thanks for stopping by, happy growing
Well the experiment is getting exciting!! Seedstockers we got some FUNKY growth happening here fellas!!! Ok, so, first of all she has had her feed of living soil grow and frass, the custom nutrient is wormcastings, top dressed and watered in with ecothrives biosys.
Now the spiel on her!! She won't do anything a grower comes to expect from a plant! She won't stretch no matter how far away or dim the light! She is dense, really dense which is why I decided to do some training! She is that rigid I can't bend her at all, I have topped her and defoliated, she won't "pray" "straighten up" no matter what I try, she doesn't drink much at all, and all in all she stinks, oh my does she stinks, smells like a berry processing factory!!
The FUNKY stuff!! As you can see in the pictures we have all kinds of FUNKY growth going on! The fan leaves growing from the main trunk have as many "fingers" as they want, some have 7, some 9 some 11 some have one extra leaf growing through the middle of the fan leaf, some have 2!! On the contrary to that the leaves on the lateral branches have the standard 5 we all recognise, however, all the lateral branches have either quad or tri-foliage, cool stuff but an absolute nightmare to get inside and see what's happening.
Autoflower?? I'm not convinced she is!! Based on the first bean from this packet NOT autoflowering and with absolutely no signs of flower yet at week 5, I'm pretty sure she is not going to autoflower!! Hence why I have topped her, I'm going to have to get some manoeuvrability out of her, and try and get that canopy even if she will!!
As you can see in the photos I have started prepping her for flower, at 6 weeks veg and no signs of flower I'm pretty certain she is not going to autoflower!! She still stinks and I must say Tri/quad-foliage is an absolute nightmare to keep on top of! In total we have basically lollypopped her, placed a scrog net over her and just been constantly training all week to get her to open up. The branches are that rigid they are extremely difficult to bend and train, I have snapped a couple of branches this week, I don't think I'm going to continue tucking under the scrog during the stretch , I just don't think she would allow it!! The net will stay in just for support and helping to keep her spread out, she has 1 more week to get used to the net and veg out a bit more before I flip the lights to 12/12.
Thanks for stopping by
So this week she has been fed, in total she has had, 3 tablespoons of living soil grow, 3 tablespoons of living soil bloom (50/50 ratio for start of flower) and for that little bit extra P I added 1 tablespoon of guanokalong bat powder and threw 1 tablespoon of frass just for diversity!! All measurements are total amount used for a 3 gallon pot. I flipped the light to 12/12 2 days ago, and the photos above were taken today (2 days after flip) she is still throwing out Tri/quad foliage, she will definitely need another hair cut once the flowering stretch has finished. She is still putting out funky fan leaves and she stinks, I can't believe on strong she actual smells at this stage of growth!!!
Thanks for stopping by 👍
So this week she has had ecothrive biosys once at 1g per litre. There is a lot of mess under the canopy on some of the branches, she is going to need a good hair cut shortly to get some light in. She has started to stretch now and hopefully flower should be in full swing over the next week.
Living soils products are still keeping her healthy, and if any of you guys/girls want to try them out, they currently have a 10% off offer, using code BG10 at checkout!! If you want more information on their products them send them a message, and I'm sure they will be happy to help!! livingsoilsfertiliser.com I am in no way affiliated or receive any kick backs from living soils well apart from the 10% off!! I just believe in their products.
Quick question for anyone reading, defoliate during the stretch or wait till the stretch has finished?
Thanks for stopping by 👍
Ok, so after last week's update she has had a visit from Edward scissor hands! Yes I know, some of you will say it's a bit drastic the amount I took off, but to be honest there was enough "green" left on her and let's face it, we ain't here to harvest "green" material, plus she has responded well as you can see in the photos, the purple resin has started to kick in and staining the buds as they develope. It's a pity she didn't autoflower, would probably be looking to start flushing shortly, but in another 8ish weeks or so we will see what we end up with!!
For her feed this week she has had -
Living Soils Grow - 1 tbsp
Living Soils Bloom - 4 tbsp
Living Soils Bloom 2 - 1 tbsp
Other = Wormcastings - 4 tbsp
Guanokalongs powder - 1 tbsp
This is the total amount for added for my 3 gallon pot.
Living Soils Promo - again I'm in no way affiliated or receive any kick backs from them, apart from having the same deal as shown. I believe, although I could be wrong, Living Soils are running this as a base promotion throughout the whole of April with other flash sales happening randomly.. might be best to keep checking the website, food for thought!!
Thanks for stopping by 👍
Did anyone say purple?? As you can see the issues are now starting to show! It looks like a start of powdery mildew on some leaves, well what do I expect, she is so dense with leaves it's going to happen, so a simple homemade spray of bicarbonate soda, oil and soap should help to control it and a full deep clean after harvest. Some of the lower leaves are getting lighter but I'm not to concerned about this yet, just keeping an eye on it for now. I have now started to up the living soils bloom 2 for the K and soon will start incorporating malted barley powder, feeding will now change from biweekly to weekly (on a slightly lower dose) I don't think she is going to be the highest yield I've done but hey for an experiment in using Coco and dry amendments to see if I could actual grow with it, i wasn't really expecting much anyway, but living soils has made it easy again!!
Ok, so now I have proceeded to bloom 2 at 1 tbsp per gallon, and also started incorporating living soils malted barley powder just 1 tbsp for the 3 gal at this stage (that's the custom nutrient shown, scratched in extremely well to avoid a crust!!)
I have been asked a few times about how far the living soils nutes stretch? Here's my answer - for the small bag 400ml which cost £4.99 whether thats grow bloom bloom2 MBP etc etc contains 27 tbsp, I use 1 tbsp per gallon per week or 2 tbsp per gallon every 2 weeks depending on how lazy I am feeling, so you can do the maths!!
Smell - I have had to upgrade my carbon filter and also I have purchased an air purifier just to try and control the smell!! The purifier is on top of the tent next to the filter outlet! Still smells like a berry processing factory, it's actually not a bad smell but has a distinct haze undertone to it!
Some of the pistils have started turning orange now so hopefully she will start to swell up a bit now, but hey, she hasn't done anything expected so far!!! Guess I will just have to see.
I have also raised the light, a little conversation I had with an expirienced grower advised me of this, thanks Mrs L for your support and knowledge 👍
Thanks for stopping by, stay safe and have an eventful 4:20 all
Ok so things seem to be progressing well 😃 this week she has had 3 X tbsp of Living Soils Bloom 2, 2 X tbsp of Living Soils Barley and 1 tbsp of guanokalongs powder total for the 3 gallon pot. Watered in with ecothrives biosys at 1g per litre.
She is starting to show a bit of frost although its only on the leaves at the moment!!
Thanks for stopping by 👍
Ok so this week she looks like she is getting hungry, and although she is in week 7 of flower she still has some running left to do before we hit the finish line, so in the 3 gallon pot this week I had added 3 tbsp of bloom2, 2 tbsp of bloom, 1 tbsp of barley and 1/2 a cup of wormcastings watered in with ecothrive biosys at 1g per litre. She is frosting up well and hopefully of the next couple of weeks she will start to put some weight on!! It doesn't show it well in the pics but to the naked eye she looks like a lighter shade of green on the left than the right!!
If anyone is interested, I have setup a subreddit r/LivingSoilsFertiliser somewhere we can share our experiences and knowledge of growing organically, hope to see you there someday!!
All the best, thanks for stopping by 👍
Ok so the frost is coming along nicely, this week she has had in her 3 gallon pot - 3 X bloom2, 2 X bloom, and 2 X malted barley powder all watered in with ecothrives biosys at 1g per litre, she still looks to have a long way to go yet, hoping she starts putting some weight on over the next week or two before putting her on a diet
All the best, Thanks for stopping by 👍
Ok so this week she really isn't happy, it's like she has become afraid of the light, the Viparspectra p1000 is currently at 30 inches above the canopy and set at 50% and she is still canoeing her leaves and has light burn - yes I have checked for thrips. Trichomes are pretty much all cloudy just waiting for some amber, but don't think she is going to make it another full week to be honest.
EDIT - trichomes are now around 5% amber and she has already had her first of 2 days in darkness (never done this before, so thought why not!!) This time tomorrow it's TIMBEEEEERRRRR!! All the best 👍
All the best happy growing 👍
Well she wasn't the run of the mill plant, she was challenging at times but I'm going to miss her, she has taught me a lot over the last 16wk and we got there in the end. We ended up with 12 decent sized colas for the size of her, the buds are solid, frosty and extremely sticky, let's she how she drys!! She didn't stretch in flower, well maybe 2 - 3 inches!! And she absolutely sticks of berries, I would of liked an auto, got one bean left from this pack so we will see. All the best, thanks for stopping by 👍
Looking good 🙏🏻
Best of luck on the grow and diary 🍁🍀❤️
Great choice definitely one i would like 👍🏻
Happy growing #420 ❤️
I predict some frosty nugs ❄️
Thank you my man, been searching for something like Living Soils for weeks now.
Have been seeing Americans using dry amendments with great results but couldn't find it myself in the EU, thanks to u I did find it now.
After seeing this I will buy their auto line immediately.
Thanks again and good luck with your grow - looks very good :)
@Biomagic, Hi fella, the test between biobizz and living soils, man do a diary on that I would love to see the outcome of that, having used both products, Im pretty sure who the winner will be! Recharge - Uncle Scotty!! Extremely good product, I have had many email conversations with Scotty and recharge. Now that leads me on to my next bit!! After a conversation with livingsoilsfertiliser.com and my endless quest to get recharge at a "sensible" price, I came across ecothrive biosys - another product I can say is really good and has helped me out of a few iffy spots! Now living soils "say" that there is enough microbes in their mixes to not need additional products, so now my next season will also be a test, 2 X BCN critical autos both in living soils, one will follow living soils feeding guide and the other will have a top up of ecothrive weekly, should be interesting to see the outcome! Also, if your heading over to livingsoilsfertiliser.com anytime in the near future get yourself 10% off your order with code BG10, I am no way affiliated or get kick backs of living soils, just love their products! Happy Growing 👍
@BudgetGrows, Thank you for your information!
Just bought the 16oz pack of recharge, great stuff!! Had to buy those recharge sticks through dessert cart because the wouldn't shop to EU, now they do :)
Couple days before my post I bought the whole BioBizz line and I am thinkin about a side by side "test" now.
2 Mephisto plants feeding with Biobizz and 2 Mephisto plants with Living Soils, I think I know who the winner will be but its a shame to throw all the Biobizz stuff away.
Oh, 7 different Biobizz bottles every other watering against topdressing once a week and watering this with recharge.
Did try the Canna BIO line and B.A.C. in combination with Recharge but its always like its missing something, always some problems when she flowers.
Maybe I will start a diary soon...
@Biomagic,hi fella, thanks for stopping by and taking a peek. Livingsoilsfertiliser.com you won't be disappointed, grow bloom bloom2 or indeed the auto feeding (I haven't tried the auto yet!! It was not available when I made my last purchase) The products are really fresh and as the pictures show, they work!! The staff are extremely efficient and respond to all enquires, regardless of the time of day, I emailed them on New Year's Day regarding some issues/mistakes I was making with their products, didn't expect an answer back for a few days but 8.30 pm on New Year's Day their formulated/grower/tester emailed me and gave their advice... You can't fault that! If it is your first time using dry amendments etc just be proactive, if the plants are looking hungry feed them early as the amendments take time to break down and become plant available, also a microbial (ecothrives biosys / giantveg instant compost tea / real growers recharge or even your own aact) product would help with speeding up the process and keep the root zone balanced, happy growing if you want any more info on the living soils then feel free to ask
@Seedstockers, hey how we doing?? Absolutely, flower time!! Now she doesn't quite look the same at the moment, Edward scissor hands has been round!! But she has responded well to her, I admit "slightly" aggressive hair cut, the sites that the quad/Tri foliage is throwing out us immense! Let's see what this "FUNKY" lady can do!! All the best, thanks for stopping by 👍
You look to be off to an amazing stat with our Purple Punch Auto 👌👌
Now we know where your diary is, we will keep dropping by 🤗
Good luck with the rest of the grow my friend 🙏
Regards,
Seedstockers ✌️
@Seedstockers, thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!! I'm hoping she will auto, the last seed didn't but I'm ready for both outcomes, hopefully a fruitful harvest!!
Growing this one at the moment. She's definitely not fast for an auto, taking the same time as a sativa! However, she's coming along nicely, albeit slowly. What was your final weight (wet and dry), my setup and plant is very close to be an identical match to your grow 🤣🤣.
Nice job bro, looks like it'll be a beautiful smoke.
@Eauderay, hi buddy, thanks for stopping by, I did check for thrips gnats etc sticky traps all clear, no eggs under the leaves, but hey I have some neem oil so won't harm giving it a blast, second time I've grown this strain, second time full on purple and yes second time from the same set of seeds that it hasn't autoflowered!! I have 1 more seed from the packet so you never now I might get an auto one!! cheers 👍
